FPL Question Time – Consult our panel ahead of Gameweek 11

Another Fantasy Premier League Gameweek has gone by with contrasting emotions in our community.

It was a great week for some and dreadful for others.

As the grind continues into Gameweek 11, we have put together another panel of Fantasy Football Scout users to give you their thoughts…

WHO’S ON THE PANEL THIS WEEK?

Epic Fail – A top manager who has been playing Fantasy Football for over 20 years now and has been involved in FPL since it started. He boasts a massively impressive history with seven top 10k finishes including a 247th-place finish.

Will / TopMarx – A top FPL writer and a well-documented lover of VAR, TopMarx claims his record of winning at least one Mini League in each of the last three seasons has left him as the best FPL manager in the history of the game. Whilst the jury remains out on that one, a career-best finish of 4k is excellent.

Maximus Bonimus Pointimus – Long-time FFS member, currently seeking an elusive fifth top 10k finish. With a personal best season of 958th, the highs & lows of twelve FPL campaigns have left him completely de-sensitised to seeing good players get bad scores in good fixtures (and vice-versa!)

    GKP: Pope (Button)
DEF: Alexander-Arnold, Tomori, Lundstram (Söyüncü) (Rico)
MID: Yarmolenko, De Bruyne, Sterling, Mané (Cantwell)

Saving this week. Then next week: Auba + Yarm > Vardy + Martial?

For what it's worth, I think the term 'windypop' is under-utilised in modern society.

Aside from that general observation, this is me for the week with 3.2 in the bank to downgrade Ota next week and then upgrade McGinn to Mane the following week:

    WindyPope
    TAA - Lundstram - Otamendi
    Sterling (C) - Martial - DeBruyne - McGinn - Mount
    Vardy - Abraham

    Heaton/Rico/Guilbert/Greenwood

With Matip potentially out for a few weeks - https://mobile.twitter.com/BenDinnery/status/1188914270630764544 - could Gomez become an option?

Because he defo wont start the next game. And because he will keep spending too many mins on the bench until the form of Pulisic or Willian drops.

Number of things he could do. Willian has been quiet the past couple of games, could play Pulisic begins Tammy in the center and give Mount a deserved rest. Apart from the Ajax game, CHO is arguably carrying the best run of form out of any of them

Willian quiet? He scored 2 or 3 goals in the last 4-5 games (UCL included) or sth! And Lamps has repeatedly said he had been one of their best players this season.

No way he benches Pulisic after a hat trick. Would send a wrong message to the whole squad imo.

Benching Mount? That, maaaayybe, but I dont think so.

100% CHO does not start vs Watford. Only chance is if he scores a brace or sth tomorrow night vs United. Anything less than that and he wont start vs Watford.

                what have you been smoking?!

Willian last game - goal and assist.

Game before, lamps said "willian was our best player"

To suggest Willian has been quiet the last 2 games is madness.

Can see plenty planning sideways moves with premium mids such as Salah to Mane, Sterling to Mane/Salah etc

Currently There isnt much difference points wise between top 4 fpl mids in Sterling Salah Mane and KDB.

Best Strategy is to just pick 3 from those 4 and stick by them through highs and lows . Agree?

    1. Camzy
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

      4 years, 6 months ago

      Disagree.

There was a meta post a while back about swapping premiums being the best use of transfers once you'd settled into a core of players. Fixtures should dictate form and by that token, swapping around your big hitters is a good use of your funds.

      1. EMBOLOFAN
        • 5 Years
        4 years, 6 months ago

that doesn’t follow, notwithstanding the fact that premium players (esp from top 2) seem to deliver more consistent returns across fixtures of varying difficulty than more lowly priced players

They don't. Aubameyang and Salah are two who clearly scored better against non-top 6 sides last season.

I know generally everyone doesn’t bother to guess pep roulette but you still have to try and apply logic/rationale. If Aguero starts tonight it is very likely Jesus will start because of good form he is in, would be bizarre to miss out two full games. If Jesus starts, it would be very unusual for aguero to be on the bench 3 on the bounce. Let’s see

The only thing that to me makes sense is when looking at the older players like d.silva. He'll probably play after the international breaks and won't be risked with too many minutes in a week. The rest we just don't know. But if you stick long enough on one city asset you'll get your points

I brought in Connolly as a part of tactical switch to 3-5-2 in the bench warmer role but it now looks so tempting to play him against Norwich. What would you do with this team? Bench Yarmo (NEW) maybe?

I think we can say with confidence that Sterling will be rested tonight. While Pep is a mad hoor for the Pepping, he has a 6 point gap to make up and will want to put the weaker teams to the sword as best he can. I have no doubt that someone in the backroom team has suggested going for 10-0 this weekend to put the fear of Fowler in the other teams.

Expect Mahrez to play tonight, Foden too... Whomever else requires some minutes to get the cobwebs out.

As an aside, remember when Fernandinho was an indispensable FPL asset? And the Bilva was the same? Pepped!

Which of these combos looks best to work towards over next couple? I have Kun, Boly (and Dendo) with places to give up at some stage...

    A) Jiménez, Martial, Robbo
    B) Connolly, Sterling, Def up to 5.2
    C) Connolly, Salah, Def up to 4.9

    Pope, McGovern
    TAA, XXXX, Lunds, Rico, Willems
    Mané, KDB, XXXX, Mount, Barnes
    XXXX, Vardy, Abraham

    A) brings a tasty level of balance but an unbelievable benching headache as one of the front 8 would need to be benched each week

    Thoughts?

Is now really a good time to bring Vardy in? Palace away is a very difficult fixture.

Yep, for free it’s not a bad move but definitely not for a -4

It kinda feels sideways but I heard this morning that Vardy has scored more than any other player in the PL since Rodgers took the job.

    Pope (Heaton)
    Diop Lascelles Matip* (Tomori) (Soyuncu)
    KdB Salah* D.Silva Mount (Stephens)
    C.Wilson* Rashford Vardy

    0 FT, 1.3 ITB

Wilson (MUN) ➡ Lacazette (WOL) (-4)?

He'd been delivering for weeks on end. It might take some time to get an understanding back with laca and his changed role again but he's such a quality marksman I don't think it'll take long.

Best moves here with 1FT and 0.8m itb. Preliminary plan is to WC in in gw13

    Pope
Taa Lundy Digne -- Tomori Rico
Sterling Kdb Dilva Mount -- Cantwell
    Pukki Rashford Tammy

    A: Cantwell + Pukki >> Martial + Connolly (-4)
    B: Digne + Pukki >> Lascelles + Vardy (-4)
C: Save FT and reassess next gw

Anyone got Mane and Salah? Thinking of getting Salah (if he's fit obviously) as my Aguero replacement

There are some teams with this. Liverpool are obviously a quality side but for me they don't score enough goals to have two premium attackers when city and even Chelsea score more.

I am debating between Salah (Mané double up), Sterling (KDB double up) or Martial when I drop Kun

I would be really reluctant to move to Martial, simply because he locks you in to a structure that makes it difficult to get back to the others (Salah, Sterling).

Completely agree and I prefer the other 2 options overall but it’s hard to deny Martial’s appeal so have just looked at ways of getting him in

Maybe? I’m an admitted Martial-denier, though. I worry we overreact to single matches against bad teams like Norwich. Even if we grant BOU as a bad defence (which seems to be changing), BHA and SHU are more defensively sound than people seem willing to admit.

You aren’t wrong and Martial has always been a doomed pick for me but stats-wise he hasn’t blanked vs all levels of opposition apart from his one post-injury cameo so I do get the frenzy to a certain extent

As long as you’re going in with eyes wide open, then I will consider due diligence done. Enjoy the ride!
