Captain Sensible

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 14?

Fantasy Premier League managers face one of the trickiest captaincy decisions of the Christmas period in Gameweek 14.

High-scoring and in-form Manchester United host Leeds United in one of the most anticipated games of the month, bringing Bruno Fernandes (£11.0m) and Marcus Rashford (£9.4m) to the fore.

Also, after a draw at Crystal Palace and a last-minute defeat at Anfield, Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur will have a point to prove as Leicester City come to north London.

Elsewhere, Liverpool prepare for a potentially tough-to-call trip to Crystal Palace although Roy Hodgson has played five, lost five as Eagles manager against his former club.

Thankfully for you, the Captain Sensible article is back once again to help you make the big decisions ahead of Gameweek 14.

As this uses extensive data from the Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area, only those with a valid subscription can access it in full.

CAPTAIN POLL

Mohamed Salah (£12.4m) tops the captain poll for Gameweek 14 ahead of Liverpool’s visit to Selhurst Park.

The Egyptian has delivered attacking returns in each of his last four Premier League matches, accumulating three goals and two assists in that time – earning him 39.3% share of the latest vote.

Fernandes’ first away blank as a Manchester United player has not eliminated him from the latest captaincy debate, 21.5% of our readers backing him for the armband when Leeds come to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

The Whites have given up an average of 1.8 goals per away game this season although the Red Devils have netted just three times at home so far.

Harry Kane (£10.9m) claims the bronze medal for the captaincy this week, earning 12.1% of the votes as Spurs prepare to host Leicester City. The talismanic forward has 14 goals and one assist in his last nine meetings with the Foxes.

A trip to Southampton for Kevin De Bruyne (£11.0m) and Manchester City is enough to ward off widespread interest in the Belgian this time around. Just 6.6% of you are willing to captain him at St. Mary’s Stadium, where the Saints have the second-best home record this season.

Despite Kane’s earning a place in the top-three for Gameweek 14, just 3.1% of the voters feel that Son Heung-min (£9.6m) is worth considering this time around.

Rashford, Callum Wilson (£6.6m), Andrew Robertson (£7.2m), Sadio Mané (£11.9m) and Ben Chilwell (£6.2m) are the only other assets with more than 1%.

Anyone have any input on Reguilon? Was the last game just a rest for him or is he likely to be bench from now on?

My guess is tactical benching against Pool. Davies more defensive?

Salah in early kick off, away from home and against a tricky palace side. He’s also fluked returns in last 2 (deflection and penalty).

    Doesn’t scream (c) to me.

I’d go Kane if I had him, but I’m quite liking Grealish v West Brom

You don't want to captain Salah away from home in a tricky fixture because he only has fluky goals in his last 2....but you want to captain Grealish who has....no returns in his last 2, is away from home, and plays a West Brom side that conceded once away to City last GW?

        Yes.

West Brom could easily have conceded 3 or 4 in that game. Villa will get loads of chances and Grealish has been unlucky over last 2 despite playing well. Salah has been poor but got lucky.

I captained Grealish once this season, his 1 pointer v's Brighton! He's got great stats and will haul big soon, but that put me right off, Salah, Bruno or Kane this weekend!

    Guys, any help much appreciated.

I've NEVER been in this situation. I have 2 free transfers, so if I don't use one I lose it. And I'd hate to lose it.

Problem: I don't see how I can make this team any better (I have 0.2m in bank)

    Martinez
    Konsa. Zouma. Taylor.
    Fernandes. Salah. Son. KdB
DCL (lose 0.5m if I sell). Wilson. Bamford

    Steele. Dallas. Vestergood. Romeu

Any help from the ff stalwarts I'd really appreciate it.

Surprised to see kane on only 10% captain voting this week. Why do people feel he's not the best option? 14goals in 10 games against Leicester, blanked and missed a big chance along with losing in a massive game to Liverpool. Kane and mourinho aren't the type to sulk - they will be more motivated than ever to get a win on Sunday. Spurs v Leicester typically very high scoring games, even if vardy scores cant see spurs being shut out

Harry Kane scoring 4 goals in a game 3.5 years ago has no bearing whatsoever on his performance this weekend.

Leicester are a good defence, and Salah and Bruno have much better fixtures.

I can agree on some of that. Even if you take out what happened 3 5yrs ago, Kane still scored 3goals in 2 games against them last year. So his record is still relevant.

Disagree Leicester are a good defence? They lost to Fulham at home and Everton at home, with very poor goals conceded. They're without their most first choice defence, relying on Fuchs and Ndidi in defence, not great.

Bruno and Salah do have good fixtures but there are some worries about them. Salah will play but will he be brought off early? He has a good record against palace but they are still a good side.

Bruno is Bruno, and can produce anytime but overall Utd are very poor at home. Maybe Leeds attack them and make it easy, Its not that easy to tell

I’m just giving you the reasons why people don’t consider him to be a no brainer.

Ollie Watkins scored a hat trick vs Liverpool this season. Will you be rushing to captain him in the return fixture? Records against specific teams have little relevance, by the time you have a reasonable sample of games the team will have changed so much it’s no longer relevant.

Leicester are still a good defence regardless of a couple of poor recent results.

Why are people scared of blanks in the future. If the blank is huge, everyone across the board is affected. You could still end up on the GW avg with 8 players on a blank GW, which will be the case for most players. In short, what I'm saying is, the point ceiling and floor won't be so wide on a blank GW. That said, I am using FH in GW 19 and will slowly fill my team with triple city and triple spurs in the weeks leading to BGW 18.

I am planning to play in gw18 and then FH19. But, I am 0.3m short of my ideal team in gw18. Where would you raise funds from

    Martinez
Lamptey Lewis James* -- Chilwell Douglas
Son Kdb Grealish Burke -- Bruno
    Dcl Kane -- Bamford

    A: Chiwell >> Dias....and field 11
    B: James >> Dallas/Coufal and field 10
C: Grealish >> Zaha and field 10...but is no grealish in gw18 a big risk?

All are viable options. City long very strong defensively and dias has been on my radar for a while but at the sametime, chilwell is super dangerous and super nailed.

No grealish is a risk but zaha has good fixtures pre gw18 and post gw20 once i get the team back from FH19

Who is a better pick between Kane and Son?

Kane is the better fantasy player, but your value options at FWD are better than your value MID options, and Son is cheaper... so... toss up for me.

Kane more reliable for captaincy, Son better value

Really can't make my mind up about this...

Gotta be Cancelo for me. If he doesn't start it's unlikely he subs in.
