FPL Gameweek 5 round-up: Sunday’s goals, assists, bonus and injuries

Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.6m) scored again for Manchester United as Said Benrahma (£6.4m) rewarded his owners with his first goal since Gameweek 2.

Neal Maupay (£6.5m) and Danny Welbeck (£6.0m) inspired Brighton and Hove Albion moved up to fourth after a 2-1 win over Leicester City, while Chelsea kept another clean sheet at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Our usual, more detailed Scout Notes will follow for all of today’s games but in the meantime, our long-dormant Scoreboard series rounds up the key goings-on.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-expanding website, and our own Premium Members Area.

GOALS, ASSISTS, PROJECTED BONUS

FPL TAKEAWAYS

  • Since making his second Manchester United debut in Gameweek 4, Cristiano Ronaldo has registered three goals, 13 goal attempts, 12 shots in the box, five big chances and 3.24 expected goals (xG), all league-leading totals. During that time, team-mate Bruno Fernandes (£12.0m) has managed just one attempt in the box, though it did hit the post.
  • Following today’s game, Luke Shaw (£5.5m) ranks 30th amongst all defenders for FPL points with 18. Despite that, his 14 chances created is only bettered by Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.6m), Jack Grealish (£8.0m) and Raul Jimenez (£7.5m), while his average position (no 23) v West Ham United was as advanced as Mason Greenwood (£7.7m) on the opposite flank.

Manchester United’s average position map v West Ham United in Gameweek 5

  • Man Utd delivered 33 crosses into the box against West Ham, their highest total in a single league game so far this season, with Shaw responsible for 16 of them.
  • Benrahma’s deflected effort for West Ham opened the scoring at the London Stadium, his first goal since Gameweek 2. The Algerian now ranks second amongst all midfielders for FPL points, only behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (£12.5m). Next up for the Hammers is a trip to Leeds United.
  • Brighton moved up to fourth in the Premier League table after a 2-1 victory over Leicester City, their fourth win of the season. Budget enabler Shane Duffy (£4.2m) supplied the assist for Maupay’s penalty, and has now provided 27 FPL points across his five starts.
  • It’s now three defeats in five matches for Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes in 2021/22. However, Jamie Vardy (10.4m) continues to produce, with three goals, one assist and five bonus points during that time.
  • It was a quiet afternoon for Spurs duo Harry Kane (£12.2m) and Son Heung-min (£10.0m), as Chelsea restricted them to a combined four shots, with just one arriving in the box.
  • Marcos Alonso (£5.7m) made his fifth consecutive start today, as Ben Chilwell (£5.7m) still waits to play his first minute of Premier League football this season. Today’s assist for the Spaniard – his second attacking return of the campaign – means that he is now the top scoring defender in the game.

INJURIES AND BANS

The best goalkeepers for UEFA Champions League Fantasy

Edouard Mendy (£6.0m) missed out for Chelsea today, with Kepa Arrizabalaga (£4.9m) replacing him in goal.

The Senegalese stopper was involved in a collision towards the end of Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Zenit on Tuesday, which meant he had trouble diving.

“Edou got a huge hit, we tried everything in the last days but he never felt fully comfortable in diving.” – Thomas Tuchel

Yves Bissouma (£4.6m) appeared to pick up a knock at the Amex Stadium. Despite not being taken off initially, he was finally withdrawn after 79 minutes, with Graham Potter providing an update after the match:

“He was desperate to play, the medical department were ok with it. He extended his knee a little bit. As the game starts to go on, the fatigue might be a problem, but he was desperate to go out. It was a decision for the medical department.”

Elsewhere, Son made a surprise return from injury and played the full 90 minutes for Spurs, as did team-mate Eric Dier (£4.6m).

However, the injuries sustained by Lucas Moura (£6.5m) and Steven Bergwijn (£6.0m) in the Europa Conference League kept them out.

After serving one-match bans in Gameweek 5, Japhet Tanganga (£4.6m) and Michail Antonio (£7.9m) will both now be available for their respective teams next weekend.

      Ramsdale

      TAA - Christensen - Lamptey

      Salah - Sarr - Gray - Raphinha

      Antonio - Lukaku - Ronaldo

Team is a mess so I might just do it now...

Careful with Ramsdale. I wouldn't drop him in Arteta's place. But if they concede too many, he might be swapped again. Remember Arsenal has to pay bonuses if he becomes long-term n1, although best managers shouldn't be thinking about that at all.

I agree. But I think it's worth taking a risk on him and it's a straightforward swap to sanchez or guaita if Leno comes back into the team

Are Arsenal, with all their own internal chaos, really gonna be messing round with GKs if one is performing for the sake of avoiding paying out on an appearances clause?

    Thoughts on the below ?

For GW6: Keep Bruno, keep FT, (c) Salah
For GW7: Scarlet Bruno Shaw to Kaku (c) 4.5 Rudi -4
    For GW8: Ayling to Dias

Before GW8, I could also get rid of Greenwood for a hit - which mids would you consider? Punt on Arsenal?

Really tempted to swap out Ings for Vardy this week. Great form + short term fixtures and minutes doesn't seem to be a problem with little competition so far this season. Would mean dropping Mount to a budget enabler though.
    Thoughts?

that does look like a wildcard. United are setting up to feed Ronaldo, only DDG + Shaw look viable elsewhere.

    Luke Shaw

Every game I watch it feels like he could / should get 10+ points….. yet he never does.

how would you all feel about posting the must haves in WC.

    1. TheDragon
      • 3 Years
      2 months, 14 days ago

TAA, Salah, Lukaku are the ‘must haves’

      Very likely to have:
Chelsea defender - Rudiger / Alonso / James
      Raphinha (if not injured)
      Bamford

Big decision is then whether you also have Ronaldo or a stronger rest of the team

This pretty much. I'd add a city defender as a very likely as well. Dias or Cancelo.

Personally I still think 3 premiums does too much damage to the rest of the team so ronaldo looks like the one to drop based on fixtures but it will be hard given his form so far

    2. mentaculus
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

      Ok, I would start with:

Trent & at least 1 chelsea defender, maybe 2. Cancelo if you can afford.

      Salah, Raphinha.

      Lukaku, Antonio

Must haves are CR7 / Luka, Antonio, TAA, Salah, Raph.

Nice to haves are Vardy, Sarr, Alonso / Rudiger, Bamford.

      Rudiger for an easy life

Alonso for excitement - Alonso obv has a much higher ceiling but you’d assume Chilwell has to get some game time at some point. Make sure you have a decent first sub if you go Alonso

Would you say I'm good to go? Jota has got Brentford and then he's gone for someone else.. Cr7 will probably become Lukaku GW7 unless I can figure out a way to get them both in.

    Sanchez
    Trent - Rudiger - Livramento
    Salah - Jota - Torres - Gray
    Bamf - Antonio - Cr7

Bench: Steele - Marcal - Williams - Sissoko

I don't usually like admitting I'm wrong. But I was dead against Arsenal signing Ramsdale.

He's not bad, has much more passion and better communication compared to Leno.

Spurs should. be a good test, Arteta would be an absolute fool to reinstate Leno for that game.

Ronaldo is strongly rumoured to be a FFS member so I’m certain he will read this, learn from it and be better next game.

For the ease of move I'm looking at Bruno to Mane for a one week punt (could do Sarr as well but having so much in the bank doesnt feel right you know)

Sarr has the form and fixture.

Fancy an Everton mid over the other 3 given they've got Norwich

Funny how things change in here. 2 or 3 wolves on every WC last week and everyone was subbing in Semedo, Traore or Marcal. Now not a wolf to be seen.

Fixtures are still solid for some time. Still reckon there's value in the defence. Certainly questions over Jimmy and Traore though which were already there last week to be fair

Was all a bit strange. Agree with you that fixtures are great so maybe a (cheap) defender.

But… they just don’t score goals so there is so little upside to any of their players.

Until Jimenez is right mentally following the head injury I see them struggling to score

Yeah maybe your right. I've got Semedo. Happy to hold until I upgrade him to Cancelo in a few weeks

    Sanchez
    TAA / Christensen / Coady
    Salah / Jota / Torres / Traore
    Ronaldo / Bamford / Jimenez

    Steele / White / Livra / Allan

Any ideas what to do with this lot? Triple Wolves really disappointed yesterday. Was on the verge of raging out Traore or Torres to Sarr, but that's possibly a bit knee jerk.

    Hold for a week?

Traore to Sarr isn't the worst idea. His next 2 are really good.

disappointed that you dont have Tierney in your team, other than that we have virtually the same team.

I've done Torres to Gallagher, with a general plan to turn Williams into James and Jota in Raph for GW7, and give Traore a stay of execution until GW8, when he will become Grealish if he doesnt perform.

Torres to Sarr is a good move with Sarr’s fixtures and Torres facing Chelski away

    Sanchez Foster
    Taa shaw ayling tsimi marcal
    Salah greenwood raphinha benrahma sarr
    Ronaldo antonio..

    2.3 itb. 0ft

If i fit dias and rudiger is it going to be like wc team or still have to hit the trigger in wcgw8

To be a ‘wildcard team’ you’d need Ronaldo -> Lukaku and Shawv-> Rudiger as a minimum

Then the question is over the non premium midfield slots

Greenwood and Benrahma it’s unclear on their longevity as picks. Sarr has 2 more good fixtures but prob needs to go then
