Wednesday’s FPL team news: Vardy and Antonio start, James and Gundogan absent

There are six Gameweek 14 matches taking place this evening, with four kicking off at 19:30 GMT and two getting underway 45 minutes later.

Southampton v Leicester City, Watford v Chelsea, West Ham United v Brighton and Hove Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers v Burnley get us started, with Aston Villa v Manchester City and Everton v Liverpool to follow at 20:15 GMT.

Gianni, Toby and Ed will be following the action in the embedded video below and over on our YouTube channel.

As for the team news, it’s Thomas Tuchel who rotates the most – he’s made six changes from the Chelsea side held to a draw by Manchester United last weekend.

The injured Reece James misses out, while Hakim Ziyech, Jorginho, Timo Werner, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Thiago Silva drop to the bench.

Andreas Christensen, Christian Pulisic, Saul Niguez, Mason Mount, Cesar Azpilicueta and Kai Havertz are recalled but Romelu Lukaku again has to be content with a place among the substitutes.

Opposite number Claudio Ranieri has made only one alteration from Gameweek 13, with Joao Pedro replacing the benched Cucho Hernandez. That means that Emmanuel Dennis is fit to start despite picking up a knock at Leicester.

Jamie Vardy and Michail Antonio both start their sides’ respective matches despite concerns about a midweek breather.

Leicester are indeed unchanged for their meeting with Southampton, who bring in Kyle Walker-Peters, Nathan Redmond and Nathan Tella for Lyanco, Romain Perraud and Armando Broja.

Antonio isn’t among David Moyes’s two changes; Vladimir Coufal and Jarrod Bowen come in for the injured Aaron Cresswell and the benched Arthur Masuaku.

Pascal Gross and Tariq Lamptey also have to make do with substitute duty at the London Stadium, with Adam Lallana and teenager Jeremy Sarmiento brought into the starting XI.

At Molineux, there are two changes apiece, three of which are enforced through suspensions to Ruben Neves, James Tarkowski and Ashley Westwood. Francisco Trincao drops to the bench as Leander Dendoncker and Adama Traore come in for the hosts, while Nathan Collins and Jack Cork replace their banned colleagues.

As for the later kick-offs, Jurgen Klopp has made only one change for the Merseyside derby: Joel Matip is recalled at the expense of Ibrahima Konate, with the front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota all starting.

Richarlison and Demarai Gray are in for Alex Iwobi and Anthony Gordon for the Toffees.

Jack Grealish and Phil Foden are only among the substitutes for Manchester City’s clash with Aston Villa, while Kyle Walker, Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin De Bruyne and John Stones miss out altogether and Aymeric Laporte is suspended.

Nathan Ake, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fernandinho come into Pep Guardiola’s starting XI.

Douglas Luiz and Emiliano Buendia replace Jacob Ramsey and Ashley Young in Steven Gerrard’s two alterations.

I am considering using my FT today for Antonio -> Benteke.

Am I missing something obvious? Is that a kneejerk transfer or a downgrade with fixtures soon turning for Antonio?

(I have Ramsdale from tomorrow's games, so chances of injuries are less. Bought Antonio at 8.0 GW7, so no team value locked in there)

King, Dennis, Benteke and Adams have better stats (xGI, shots on target, touches in penalty box over the last 6 gameweeks) than other "regularly playing" forwards. I already have Dennis. Fixtures are nice for Crystal Palace.

That's what makes me think. I am not much worried if he doesn't play, because then I will get the points from my bench (one of Gallagher, Dennis, Duffy). I am worried that he will come on as a substitute for the 1 pointers.

Bernardo is getting the points, Gundogan has good underlying stats. But, if I had money, I would go with Sterling.

Seems a minefield to know who. Foden was super hyped up on here a few weeks ago after his haul, it was basically the reason Mark wildcarded!

KDB back soon too. I was looking at the stats for the last two seasons and Gundogan has about half the output (e.g. xGI) when both are playing vs. when there is no KDB.
Bilva could be the one, but is one that doesn't particularly draw you in if you are stats focused like me.

Am leaning Bilva tbh, just seems solid value and could tick along nicely. Has only been subbed on twice for his 39 league appearances this season and last, so maybe a bit lower cameo risk.

At moment moves might be: Antonio + Brownhill to Dennis + Bilva to get:

              Ramsdale
              Cancelo James TAA Reguilon
              Salah Jota Raphinha Bilva
              Ronaldo Toney
              Foster ESR Dennis Livramento

You’re looking very strong there! Good strong bench. I could do similar and get to…

                Ramsdale
                TAA Cancelo James Rudiger
                Salah Jota Raphinha Bilva
                Kane Antonio

                Foster Livramento Dennis Brownhill

Your team looks good, Kane should be a really nice differential to have next week

    Salah, Jota, Raphinha, Gallagher

    Foster, Antonio, Livramento, Brownhill
    2ft, 0.5itb

    b/ Jimi + Antonio > King + Watkins
    c/ Jimi > King/Watkins and roll a FT

    Repost bottomed-

Pretty set on moving Gallagher to Bilva, who makes way to facilitate it??!

    A- Benteke to Broja
    Or
    B- Alonso to 4.3 max defender(Tavares maybe??)

Either moves eases benching headaches every week!! Have TAA, James, Cancelo and Livramento, And Toney and Antonio as my other 2 forwards

    Cheers!!

Maybe we can exchange ideas here. I am considering buying Benteke, while you are considering selling Benteke. Why do want to sell Benteke?

I want to buy him, because he has one of the best stats (xGI, shots on goal and penalty box touches over last 6 gameweeks) among the regularly playing forwards. Plus, Crystal Palace seems to have easy fixtures over the next few weeks.

Purely to facilitate getting Bilva in and easing benching headaches every week mate, after thinking about it more and the great points to make there I think I’d actually get rid of Toney to Broja and keep Benteke, like you say good fixtures for Palace after United and Through the Xmas period too

I didn't want to influence your decision there. You should be the "manager" of your team.

Just wanted to know why someone would want to sell Benteke (may be I am doing it wrong and may be its not worth buying Benteke).

I think you absolutely right to bring him in Mate, I brought him in last week
With a view to the upcoming fixtures over the festive period, think I may hang fire on the Bilva move and look at it again next week and not rush things if I’m undecided!!

[...] some other ideas. Saúl is Tuchel's Plan C

"We had two options to take Marcos off and try Saul as a wing-back, I had this in my mind before the game if something happened to Marcos but then I thought it wasn't the right match to try."

Alonso can't play all the minutes over the contested schedule, so he's going to need an alternative solution at times. So it makes sense he's thinking about Saul there.

I still think Alonso will be first choice.

It's just backup options for Alonso, first and foremost.

RLC in midfield hasn't helped us/Alonso as he's been poor. Tuchel is for sure more fed up with Saul. He's been dreadful

At least Alonso offers something going forward. Both goals today don't happen without Alonso.

I get like a 230 place rank move or +3% if I put in a Jota goal in the LiveFPL WhatIf scenario. That's this GW, with the volume of transfers in, he'll be close to 100% EO. So one where you kind of need him but he won't do much for you as a late adopter!

i had him in early and he did get a few points but he looks poor in a bang average side currently.

        Team looks nice!

My personal FPL managing style is to have good bench players, so my plan with this team would be to upgrade Gelhardt and McArthur, downgrading one of the expensive players (Son / Vardy).

Damn should've brought in Bernardo with my 2nd FT for this GW instead of doing it last night and missing out on his 10 point haul... bound to be benched now at the weekend. Epic transfer fails lately.

    Watkins xG = 0.05
    Dennis xG = 0.09

Maybe don’t rush your transfer for these two…

Dennis is a talent tho. 6 goals and 6 assists in a Watford team in just 14 gameweeks out of which he started only 12 is special

His xG was vs City. He'll be playing more obliging defenses soon enough.

I prefer to look at xG / xGI averaged over the last 4 or 6 gameweeks. Dennis has xGI of 0.51 (per 90) while Watkins has xGI of 0.31 averaged over the last 6 gameweeks. Not that bad considering the highest is Benteke (0.94) and King (0.81). Well, Minamino, Cavani and Vydra has higher, but they didn't play much.

Well that was a bit of a mess but hasn't destroyed me in my minileagues, have to hope for goals galore at Spurs tomorrow with Kane and Toney involved so 0-0 is inevitable. Trossard to Bernardo set in stone but I'll wait for pressers unless any injury worries crop up. Think he might be rested but at the same time there's a full week until the next game so maybe he'll be fine

Good sign for future points though hopefully, a few here were saying he was awful today but that's made me feel better about it

I mean I'd keep Vardy over Watkins if he doesn't have any other big upgrades to do

I think Vardy > Watkins is a perfectly good move. Frees up funds for a midfield upgrade too.

Agree, just a shame he's not fallen in price more! Only 0.1m below his starting price despite having lost 2/3 of owners in that time.

Jimenez-> Dennis/King or even Toney/Wilson (1 week punt before WC) maybe the best move here?

WC'ing soon so that is something to consider.
    Sanchez.
    TAA, Cancelo, Rudiger, James.
    Jota, Salah, Raphinha.
    Vardy, Pukki, Jimenez.
    McCarthy, Livramento, Gallagher, Bissouma.
    0.5m ITB, 1ft.
