FPL Daily: Firmino and Jota injury latest as Kane ‘has to play’

We round up the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) talking points of the day in FPL Daily, a weekday series that serves non-Premier League matchdays and days when we don’t bring you a team news/press conference round-up.

NO FIRMINO OR JOTA AGAINST LEEDS

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed there is “no chance” Roberto Firmino (£8.7m) and Diogo Jota (£8.4m) will be fit for Wednesday’s Double Gameweek 26 clash against Leeds United. The duo missed Saturday’s 3-1 win over Norwich City with muscle and ankle injuries respectively, and will now be monitored ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.

“For tomorrow no chance and for the final we will see. I don’t know at the moment. It will be easier for me to say no now but they are pushing. They’re not on the pitch for training which is not a good sign. We have to see what we can do with the boys in the next few days and then we’ll make a decision later in the week.” – Jurgen Klopp on Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota

KANE “HAS TO PLAY”

In Tuesday’s pre-match press conference, Antonio Conte revealed Harry Kane (£12.2m) is fit to face Burnley, despite suffering a knock on the back in the win at Manchester City on Saturday. He then went on to suggest he would play even if he had one leg, highlighting his importance.

“Harry had a hit on his back but he has to play. Even if he has one leg, he has to play. He is good. Harry knows his importance to the team.” – Antonio Conte on Harry Kane

Elsewhere, Oliver Skipp (£4.4m) and Japhet Tanganga (£4.2m) are still out, while Sergio Reguilon (£5.3m) remains a doubt.

“Skipp and Tanganga, they are recovering. They’re not ready, they’re still not ready for the game against Burnley. Sergio Reguilon, at yesterday’s training session, he wasn’t present but we’ll see today. I think the situation is the same as the last game but we hope Skipp, Tanganga, Sergio recover very soon because we need all of them.” – Antonio Conte

Conte then went on to discuss squad rotation, including the forward options now at his disposal.

“Sonny and Kane, I always say that we are talking about two players that are very good, at an important level. My expectation when you have these two players are higher than other players. I think Sonny played a bit but then had a serious injury and to lose him for one month and a half wasn’t good for us. Also, because when you recover you need a bit of time to be fit, to have good form. Now he’s fit, he’s an important player for us.

There’s a good connection between him and Harry but also don’t forget that Lucas Moura is an important player and now we have Dejan, Deki Kulusevski. He is young but he’s ready for this league. You have seen in a tough game that he can give us a lot this season. Then there is also Steven Bergwijn. He had a little problem before the game against Manchester City in his calf and now he has recovered. We have many games ahead and we will need all these players.” – Antonio Conte

BIELSA ON LEEDS’ DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCES

Leeds United will once again be without key trio Liam Cooper (£4.4m), Kalvin Phillips (£4.7m) and Patrick Bamford (£7.7m) at Anfield on Wednesday, plus Robin Koch (£4.3m), who suffered a blow to the head after a collision against Manchester United.

Marcelo Bielsa also touched on his team’s recent defensive performances, which has seen them concede 30 goals in their last 10 Premier League matches.

“I did not say the defence needed to improve, I said the defensive system needed to improve. The consistency the players in midfield offer allows us to strengthen the defensive system. The characteristics of the players in the midfield give it a more defensive or offensive profile. I said all of this to explain because we have conceded 50 goals, second most conceded in the league. I have to account for this because I am responsible.

I wanted to explain in the game against Manchester United we did not have Phillips, Koch or Pascal (Struijk). Three players who take on the role of defensive midfielder to solidify them. We don’t resolve that with bringing signings in. If not, we would have four players for that position. Imagine being able to count on all three for that position. It’s a privilege. At the same time, occasionally situations like this are presented. Strangely, the fourth player in that role is the best player of the team in the second half, Forshaw.

Analysing the last game, we created eight chances at goal and the opponent created eight chances at goal as well. They managed to score double the goals we did. When I analyse the defensive behaviour, I refer to the structure I generate. After you have to analyse why? What are the real reasons and how to avoid this from happening? That’s my function and when you have played these games and these goals the conclusions are clear.” Marcelo Bielsa

NO NEW INJURY CONCERNS FOR PALACE

Patrick Viera has provided a fresh injury update ahead of Crystal Palace’s visit to Watford on Wednesday, confirming full-backs Joel Ward (£4.5m) and Nathan Ferguson (£4.5m) remain out.

Notably, there was no mention of Vicente Guaita (£4.6m), who was withdrawn from action at half-time against Chelsea with a slight injury at the back of his knee. However, his manager did say the rest of his squad had been training, which is encouraging for his owners.

“We know that Nathan Ferguson and Joel Ward will not be part of the game tomorrow. The others all trained this morning.” – Patrick Vieira

Conor Gallagher (£6.2m), meanwhile, comes back into contention after missing Saturday’s game against parent club Chelsea.

CAVANI TO MISS ATLETICO TIE

Edinson Cavani (£8.4m) will be absent again for Manchester United’s UEFA Champions League last-16 first leg against Atletico Madrid. The Uruguayan forward has missed the last three games with a groin injury and also had a stomach problem prior to Sunday’s win at Leeds.

“Edinson (Cavani) will not be part of the group. He has not been training for the last couple of weeks. He has a problem with his groin. As long as he doesn’t feel able to sprint, it doesn’t make sense to push him.” – Ralf Rangnick

This is pretty similar to the FH template, but I can't find better value for funds elsewhere. Any improvements or changes to this draft?

    Pope
    Cancelo - Shaw - Mee
    Bruno - Son - Mahrez - Foden
    Kane - Weghorst - Broja

    (Foster) - (Mbuemo - Dalot - Livramento)

    Cheers!

Switch out Shaw for Livramento and it is literally the template. That’s not a bad thing though. It’s the FH template for a reason.

I'm not on FH but that FH template looks pretty strong.

I'm going to have DDG, Dalot, Davies, Bowen, Ramsey and DCL up against Pope, Mee, Bruno, Sterling, Mahrez and Kane.

Starting to wonder why I'm not free hitting myself looking at that!

      Foster | Ramsdale
Cancelo, Laporte, Cash | TAA, Tierney
Son, Bowen, Ramsey | Salah, Saka
      WW, DCL, Dennis

1 FH + BB left, 1 ft and 3.5 mitb

This is my current team and I am selling DCL for Kane certainly. But I need to find 0.9 somehow 🙁 Not going waste my last FH.

Fpl.team is a good way to see how many doublers/blankers you will have over the coming weeks and where best to FH or WC.

If your team is in dire straits & limping along you may want to WC to give it a new lease of life & take advantage of the DGWs & BGW30.

May be advantageous to use a FH this week (as many are who have Liverpool & Arsenal assets tied up on the bench) & then WC28.

Bloody hell helping a Spurs whatever next!

Not going to FH. Thoughts on:
Salah -> Son with my FT...
And then do the hokey cokey and turn it around later? Team if I do:

    Gunn
    Cancelo Laporte Webster
    Fernandes Bowen Coutinho Son
    Maupay Weghorst Broja

    Ramsdale; saka, white, TAA

Anyone considering FH28 and FH30 but WC29 and load up on Liv, Ars, Tot, maybe Che, Lei. Not sure I wanna keep many players from teams that have DGW28 but would like to attack that week anyway with around 9 DGW players plus Salah and maybe 1 more SGW premium. BB can be used DGW36, enough time to prepare with loads of players on WC not playing in GW30.

Yeah im FH28, think the amount getting burnt in FH27 means my 28 team will be a differential as you can't do them back to back.

Totally team dependent. But I am on a similar strategy. FH 29 instead of 28. Have 7 doublers for 28. Can ride out GW30 or use second FH. WC in 31.

I had both until recently. I would say Watkins.

They are both in terrible form but Antonio has no competition so he's good for 2 points atleast. Watkins will lose his spot to Ings if he hasn't already with his current form.

I am stuck on third defender and first on bench. Affordable options in my thinking ( and budget) are below. Who would you play and who would be first on your bench from

    A Bednarek ( nailed )
B Dalot (Big game tomorrow and AWB could play)
C Livramento (competing for 1 place with Perraud/KWP)

At the end of the day if you think Broja or Adams will outscore him by more than 4 then its worth making the move, try and watch the game tomorrow and see if you feel he is getting back in form and how Watford look in general, Im probably going to do the same but for me the decision is put off till gw28 because im FHing this week, so will get an additional game to see him and Broja before I have to make that call.

    Thoughts very much appreciated.

    DDG
    Reguilon Cancelo Lamptey Livramento
    Gray Bowen Foden
    Ronaldo Edouard Broja

    (Bachmann* Salah* TAA* Saka*)

Thinking Gray to Ramsey this week, gets me another doubler for next week if I decide not to use any chips. I really should sort my chip strategy out but struggling to find the time atm.

I've run through the rest of the season over and over again, and I think I'm gonna hit FH

GW33 isn't likely to be as big an issue as it seems from afar (unknown doesn't always mean horrible), and I'll have most of the players I'd want on a Free Hit anyway by then

There's something... Too strong... About the FH27 template. Scarily high chance of losing rank by going in with Bowen, triple Wolves and triple Villa for me, even though I have 11

BB36 or BB28 are still possible, but I like BB36 more

FH27 template looks strong on paper but doesn't mean it would easily go big. Palace and Leicester can always bust Burnley CS, Watford can easily frustrate United, Pep roulette can easily disappoint, Norwich are no longer the whipping boys imo so no guarantee Southampton will get it easy.

I'm probably talking bulls**t but I am not going into 27 with fear by not using my FH

If you have a good team already, then there's no reason to fear

Fixtures for my team are unappealing, and I really don't have another use for the chip, especially since it doesn't fix injury crises as wildcards do. I otherwise have it scheduled for GW38 😀

Things can always go wrong, yes. But what if it goes right? It's like the TC Salah situation

About Pep roulette: Grealish and Jesus being out mean Pep would have to perform some miracles to bench Sterling and Mahrez, especially Mahrez again... But the Bald Magician does have his miracles, yes

I don't have a good team this week, only 1 Burnley and no Soton, but still fielding 11 by taking a hit and having some usual suspects like DDG Bruno Cancelo Son Mee, a big differential in Wood lol

FH should be used in higher potential GW like more doublers or big blank, where you can cover more ground. Just my opinion

              In normal seasons, yes

But that kinda GW doesn't exactly exist this season, except if GW33 goes horribly wrong

DGW28 doesn't need a chip, but BB works. Same for DGW36. DGW26 would have been nice for most chips, but TC Salah took it

The other DGWs would probably have 8 teams max doubling per DGW (that usually means 4 good teams to target, or it's not a great fixture otherwise), and can be covered with a long-term plan (I'm getting double Chelsea and Leicester right before the madness starts)

This is why I started my post with "I've run through the rest of the season..."

I understand that many others would need their FH elsewhere, but FH19 FH27 are highlights for my squad. That, or FH38 for a laugh

It's a high potential week though I think you'd admit.

On paper, this could be a 100 point week if all the big guns win comfortably and Burnley do well. Using a FH in a week where you can do damage is what I'm looking for.

No it doesn't. It really doesn't. GW30 for instance is low potential. 3 kind of meh fixtures. Getting 8 players out is good enough. Or what about weeks where the big teams play like Wolves away or each other.

All 3 of the big teams people are investing in are playing weak/out of form teams.

and to add to that Trent and Salah that have taken a massive amount of our budget are not playing and non free hitters cant sell them for the most part (Gw28 Wildcarders aside) so thiis is a rare week where we can invest heavily in players that we couldn't own in combination usually.

Read: get Son and Kane for one week.

Fair enough. Not enough for me to use the whole FH chip. I only have one, I'll use it when I want to replace my entire team for the week.

                    It's always team-dependent

I want to replace 7 of my starters this GW, using funds from my bench

                    FT:
                    Sa
                    Ait-Nouri Cancelo Digne
                    Son Bowen Coutinho Ramsey
                    (C)Weghorst Jim Broja

                    FH:
                    Pope
                    Livra Cancelo Roberts
                    Bruno Sterling Mahrez Son
                    Broja (C)Weghorst Kane

If My FT starters had great fixtures or form, or the FH template had some iffy fixtures, I wouldn't even have considered this

Your team is very similar to mine. As I said, I'd love to have Son, but with one or 2 transfers I'll put out a decent team - with KDB and keep FH up my sleeve.

Grealish, Palmer and Jesus are unavailable

If one of the front three is rested, it'll be for Bilva, with Gundo coming into the team again. That's quite unlikely to be Mahrez, so it could be Sterling or Foden

I don't think both will be rested. Pep doesn't have anybody he'd play there in an EPL game, hence the unusual City midfield appeal this week

Its not just as simple as Salah and Trent out for Son and Kane.

It was about what week would have the highest potential to use the FH to significantly change our team and target good fixtures, for me personally Cancelo is the only player I own that im holding in my FH team.

But the key thing is who you own now, how many changes you would make and how your team is set up for the next few weeks. For me with both FHs and a decent team for 30 its an easy choice, for you with only one FH its a far more difficult choice to play it this week or wait for 30, 33 etc.

I was just emphasizing on the high potential of this week for FH.

                I hear you.

What I mean is that theoretically any week you can score a 100 points....

The likelihood of more players reaching that is higher in certain weeks, like DGW 27 for instance, but in and of itself the argument holds little weight....

Yep high potential but not high enough imo. Just one doubler in Burnley, big IF there (rotation could hit hard, Pep is Pep and Conte already giving a hint).

Yeah we can do damage but I'd rather keep since easy to field 10 or 11. Unless people WC in 26 and plan to BB in 28, I think FH is warranted as to keep the Liv and Ars boys

    Pope
    Cancelo Lamptey Saiss

    Watkins Dennis King

    Foster Salah TAA Robbo

Can't sell any of the bench players as wouldn't be able to get them back.

FH in 30? Or use FTs and a few hit until 30 to field 10? His Watford and Burnley boys could still play in 30, mind you.

GW33 is not going to be so troublesome imo, since many of the postponed games can be moved to the following midweek. But yeah with some bgw and dgw teams, it'd easier to navigate with FH

So you'd end up with Rudiger, Cancelo, TAA, Salah & Saka on the bench for gw27?

Cancelo has got a game in 27. That's 10 starters for 27 and a couple doublers in 28. It's the strength of the BB I'm most concerned about..

        1. RogDog_jimmy
          • 3 Years
          2 years, 2 months ago

Right - sorry. Still seems weird to me to have 10 starters only on a WC - but get that it's a long-term plan with BB.

I think the BB makes sense to attack - no idea if this is a good/bad one. If you don't have value built up in Salah I'd leave him off and have Son for this week and move to Salah for 28. Maybe even consider going with Weghorst this week and taking a hit to move to King next week.

3x extra fixtures for a -4 all up

Yeah, I think weghorst would be an upgrade on King too but I'm going with 10 in 27 so I have two free transfers In play for tje uncertainty in gwk 30 and beyond...

          I did WC in 23, doing FH27.
Might do BB28 but I doubt it - I'm set up ok but think I'll save for later on.

Think WC27 is pretty tough, but get the desire to try it out with the extra fixtures coming up.
Hope it works out for ya!

    DDG
    Bavies Cancelo ---
    Bowen Bernardo Maddison ---
    King Antonio DCL

I can field an XI in GW 27 with a hit, removing two from Jota, Alonso and White.

    What would you do?

    A. Take the hit
    B. Play FH
    C. Play WC
