FPL Gameweek 28 team news: Injury updates on Mee, Bamford, KWP and more

We’ve got injury updates from four Premier League managers who held pre-match press conferences on Thursday: Burnley‘s Sean Dyche, Southampton‘s Ralph Hasenhuttl, Brighton and Hove Albion‘s Graham Potter and new Leeds United coach Jesse Marsch.

A total of 16 top-flight bosses will face reporters on a bumper Friday of media duties.

LEEDS UNITED

Patrick Bamford (foot) could be back in the Leeds matchday squad for only the second time in six months, having returned to training in the run-up to Saturday’s clash with Leicester City.

Kalvin Phillips (hamstring) and Liam Cooper (hamstring) remain out despite being described as being “closer” to a return to team training, while Diego Llorente (unspecified) was the only player specifically namechecked as being a fresh concern by Marsch, who perhaps took a little sideswipe at his predecessor when describing the “myriad” issues he has inherited.

“Monday, I came here and met with the medical team and they introduced a whole myriad of injury situations to me. There’s been a little bit of a cycle here where guys have been fighting through injuries and often playing with injuries and it means they’ve sometimes then picked up other injuries and put themselves more in danger of missing minutes.

“What I need to do is help guys recover as quickly as possible but not endanger them, not overload them to further be in danger, and then make sure that we have a long-term vision in place. It’s 12 games, it’s not three games or four games, and I know we need points but we need to make sure we’re getting stronger as we move along and not weaker.

“Patrick Bamford was in training today. Kalvin [Phillips] and Liam [Cooper] are both making progress, they won’t be ready for the weekend but they’re on the pitch and they’re working every day.

“We have a bunch of other guys who have missed a little bit of training this week and we’re trying to evaluate what are the risk and rewards of all of the different players and how many minutes are appropriate for them to be able to perform on Saturday.

“We’ll evaluate Patrick [Bamford] – can he be on the bench or does he need a few more days? He’s close. Diego Llorente was not in training today and he’s questionable for the weekend.” – Jesse Marsch

SOUTHAMPTON

Alex McCarthy (hamstring), Lyanco (hamstring) and Nathan Tella (groin) remain out ahead of the clash with Aston Villa, while Kyle Walker-Peters (hamstring), Mohamed Elyounoussi (heel), Mohammed Salisu (hamstring) and Shane Long (knock) will all be assessed for issues picked up either before Wednesday’s FA Cup fifth-round win over West Ham United or during it.

“Kyle [Walker-Peters] had little problems with his hamstring, that’s also the reason why we subbed him. We have also problems with [Salisu] and Moi [Elyounoussi]; Moi with his heel, Sally with his hamstring. Longy had a harsh impact in the first half, that’s the reason why we left him in the dressing room at half-time. So a few lads with a few issues but we will have a look, how far they are for the weekend and if they are available, we will see.” – Ralph Hasenhuttl

“Not yet. I must have a look.” – Ralph Hasenhuttl on whether Kyle Walker-Peters and/or Mohammed Salisu are ruled out for the weekend

BURNLEY

Ben Mee (knee) is “touch and go” for Burnley’s clash with Chelsea, while Erik Pieters (knee) and Dale Stephens (muscle) will definitely remain sidelined.

“Ben’s going to be touch and go, I think, to whether he makes it and obviously the risk/reward of that scenario. It is more of a knock, which is favourable, rather than a twist. It’s whether it can settle down in time.

“Erik [Pieters] won’t be involved, Dale Stephens won’t be involved at the weekend. Erik’s going to be a few weeks rather than days. We’re waiting on news on Dale, I don’t think that one’s as serious, could be training next week.” – Sean Dyche

Also still out are Matej Vydra (hernia) and Johann Berg Gudmundsson (calf), with the former back on the grass with the physios but the latter set to be out for a significant period of time.

BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION

Adam Webster (groin) might not be back until after the March international break, while Saturday’s game against Newcastle United may come too soon for Enock Mwepu (hamstring/illness) despite his return to training.

Jeremy Sarmiento is back in contention, however, while Adam Lallana looks also set to make a swift recovery from a hamstring issue in time for the trip to Tyneside.

“Adam Lallana has made good progress, we think he’ll train tomorrow hopefully. Whether he’s able to start the game is another thing but it’s good that he’s available.

“Adam Webster will still be missing, a little setback with his injury. He’s looking more… maybe outside chance Tottenham but if not, after the international break.

“Enock has come back from his illness, had his first training session today. The weekend might be a bit too soon for him.

“Jeremy Sarmiento has been training, so he’s involved in the squad.” – Graham Potter

Silva (C) and Saiss of Rudiger (C) and Kilman?

Going Saiss and Rudiger myself. And Mendy in nets. Marginal chance that Silva doesn't start both, but their games pretty far apart, so he probably will.

Hi guys, what’s this WC looking like please, wanted Robertson but will have to settle for Matip:

    Ramsdale - Dubrav
    Rudiger - TAA - Coady - Cancelo - Matip
    Salah - Raph - Saka - Kulu - Ramsey
    Kane - Wood - Broja

    Thanks

Seems quite 'loaded' in defence. I'd maybe downgrade one of them to upgrade Wood (who really hasn't done anything of merit to deserve a place in a WC team)

I’m on WC this week and, at the moment, I plan to get through BGW30 with 10 or so players.

I’ll then only have 1 FH and BB. Assuming DGW36 will be a good time to BB, do we anticipate a better time to FH than 30?

I think 30 is the one, depending on your team now that is. GW36 can be hit or miss

    Better option over GW28-30?

    A) Rudiger (bur/nor, NEW, blank) + Bowen (liv, AVL, tot)

    B) Dier (EVE, mun/bha, WHU) + Coutinho (SOU/lee)

Will captain Rudiger or Coutinho this week.
If B will sell Coutinho for Jota or Kulusevski for DGW29.

Really need some help here. Torn as to whether I use my wildcard this week or leave it for around GW34 so I can BB36?

Other option is to do Dalot + Foden > Rudiger + Raphinha (-4).

But that would still only leave me with 4 doubles this week.

    Current team is:

    Ramsdale Sanchez
    TAA Robertson Cancelo Dalot Lowton
    Salah Foden Bowen Saka Ramsey
    Kane King Idah

Here is my tweaked wildcard team. I'll also be playing a BB in gw29 and looking to navigate through gw30 without using a FH chip. Any suggestions for improvement?

    Dubravka
TAA | James | Thiago Silva | Coady
    Salah | Son | Mount | Raphinha
    Adams | Broja
    ------------------------------------------------
    Ramsdale | Lacazette | Saka | Davies

    It will give:
    8 doubles in gw28
    8 doubles in gw29 (BB)
    7 starters in gw30 (9 using 2 free transfers)

I like it. Not for me (mainly as I'm not BB in 29) and I'd maybe swap in Rudiger and Kilman for Silva and Coady if it works financially but that's really just tinkering

Fine of course. He's not a necessarily a sell. I'm using his spot to take a whirl with some doublers (Havertz, Son), partly due to BB this week. But he's a great option for 29, and even more so 31-3

Yup, this is exactly my thinking.

And instead I'm gonna move Sterling out which frees up a lot of cash *and* a space in mid for a punt: hence the Mount/Havertz wavering. Had ear-marked that spot for JWP or NEW, but now I fancy a gamble. Especially as the rest of my midfield is pretty template: Son, Salah, Bowen, Ramsey, with Saka to come in at some point, replacing the two-week punt.

Salah. He’s in great form, Raphina not so much, plus there is uncertainty at Leeds, on top of Raphina having to pretty much shoulder the entire load at the moment. I wouldn’t even call it defensive- of the two choices I see Salah scoring more

Even with fires (the infamous Camp Fire of a few years back was in Paradise, neighboring town about 9 miles away) and severe drought I gotta go Nor Cal. I am 2.5 hours from Bay Area, Lake Tahoe/Sierras, wine country, and from certain spots in my town (Chico) I can see two volcanoes- Lassen Peak and Mt. Shasta. For natural beauty it’s tough to beat where I am. That said, there are lots of drawbacks (as mentioned, fire & drought, high cost of living, etc.)

No idea if that is what you actually wanted to know 😎

I wonder if "not many" is relative here. Like, most people will have 6-8 and will use a -4 to get to 8-10, I think. Not worth FH or WC in my opinion. The games themselves don't warrant a FH for me. And a WC is probably better used a couple of GWs before or after.

You never really know is the truth.

If a couple of players explode in a dgw it's easy to say in hindsight i should have picked them. Difficult to do so over 2 games with foresight.

WC to get 7 DGW players each week in 28 and 29 and of them 6 or 7 will also play 30. That's plenty IMO, allowing FH to be used later on.

I can get more than that for all of those GW's without using WC, OP may be the same.

I've got 5 for BGW30 (Teirney, Son, Bowen, Raph, Wadkins), and am thinking that with 3 FTs I can get to 8 which is probably enough for that GW. If I used FH all I'd gain is Kane, Vardy and a keeper, so it's probably not the best GW for me to use that chip, and I'm holding WC for the week before I BB.

    Bench boost this. ?

    FOSTER
    DIGNE. LIVRA. Trent
Salah. Mane. RAPHINHA C. Saka. RAMSEY
    DENNIS. JIMINEZ

    Ddg. Cancelo. Lamptey. Lacazette

Partly want to get rid of it so can wildcard 31 and not worry too much about bench.

Think this is the best I can do here. Thinking BB29. Thoughts?

    Dubravka
    TAA Silva Coady Livra
    Salah Mount Raphinha Fraser
    Kane Broja

    Ramsdale Laca Saka Cancelo

I would be all over the bench boost this week tbh. Livra raphinha Mount Silva are singling in 29 and current bench players better

Then perfect. Maybe less hard on arsenal as their fixtures tough. Jimi over Laca and play over Fraser? Get someone who plays instead of Fraser in 30 and doubles in 29?

            That's a difficult combo now isn't it.

Arsenal have most doubles coming though. Don't fancy Jimi much as Wolves and him do not really score goals

    Saka, Mount, Salah, Son, Coutinho
    Richarlison, Adams, Dennis

I would do Sanchez to dubravka if you can and bench boost

I have activated the WC. So Sanchez to Dubravka is possible and Jimi och Richarlison

What are your other options to get Salah. Because you need Salah. If you don't have options then this is absolutely the right move

That should be Bruno > Salah.
Was considering Bowen > to another DGWer for another -4 and bench Odegaard.

I think that Tierney is better than Rüdiger for those 3 upcoming GWS
    Tierney
    WAT (A) LEI (H) LIV (H) AVL (A)
    Rüdiger
    BUR (A) NOR (A) NEW (H)
    A- Agree
    B- Not Agree

      B. Rudi can get 3 sheets and an attacking return

White two sheets max and no attacking returns

      Depends on the funds though
