FPL Gameweek 12 team news: Updates from Monday’s pressers

The pre-match press conferences have started ahead of Gameweek 12 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

Five managers are facing reporters on Monday and we’ve got all the key team news updates on this page.

We’re expecting at least nine more top-flight bosses to hold pressers on Tuesday, and we’ll round those up in a separate article tomorrow.

With two Premier League matches taking place on Thursday, however, there’s a good chance that we won’t hear from Messrs Gerrard, Silva, Rodgers and Marsch before Tuesday’s FPL deadline.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Dejan Kulusevski’s (hamstring) involvement in the clash with Manchester United is still in some doubt, while Emerson Royal serves the last game of a three-match ban and Richarlison will miss Gameweek 12 as a result of the calf injury he picked up in Saturday’s win over Everton.

The winger should be back before the World Cup, however.

“Tomorrow we have another training session and we’ll see. It will be very difficult to have some returning for the game against Manchester United.

“You know the injury about Richarlison. He is doing a scan, an MRI, and then we’ll see how long he needs to recover. But for sure against United, he is not available.

“The player is not risking to miss the World Cup. Absolutely not.

“Kulusevski is working. We’ll see. We have to go day by day with him. The medical department are working a lot to try to recover him but we don’t know about the game against Manchester United.” – Antonio Conte

With Richarlison and potentially Kulusevski out, the thinking was that Antonio Conte might start with the 3-5-2 formation that worked so well in the second half of Saturday’s win.

But Conte again reiterated that 3-4-3 was his preferred set-up, listing Ivan Perisic as one option who could deputise in the front three.

“Lucas Moura can, yeah, be a possibility, Gil can be a possibility, Perisic like in a three like a striker is a possibility. I have another training session to make the best decision. You know we like to play with a 3-4-3 with the three strikers and if we can’t change, I prefer to continue to play with the 3-4-3 otherwise we find a solution. I think we have the possibility to continue to play with the 3-4-3.

“Yes [I would like to stick with 3-4-3], because in my idea we’ve worked a lot with this system. Lucas Moura is recovering from his injury, Gil is making progress and then I have Ivan Perisic who can play like a striker.” – Antonio Conte

Matt Doherty was handed some words of praise by his boss, meanwhile.

“About Matthew, he needed time, time to recover well. On the physical aspect and I think also with the mental aspect, because last season Matthew started the season struggling a lot and then when he started to play he played very well and he had an amazing season in my opinion.

“He took a lot of confidence in his potentiality. What happened for sure if your feeling is good, you feel yourself strong. Then it happened a serious injury and he struggled a lot to recover from this injury. During the training sessions, the player didn’t feel the same confidence of the past and in my opinion, for this reason, he needed more time to be fit and to be good, to have good form.

“Now he came back and I’m really pleased for him. It was really important also for him to go with the international team and play two games in a row. Then he played against Brighton, he played a good game. Then in the last game he played really well.

“I’m really happy for him because we are talking about a really good guy and especially also a player who needs to feel confidence in himself.” – Antonio Conte

BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION

Just when he was threatening to break into the Brighton XI, Kauro Mitoma will miss Gameweek 12 and potentially Gameweek 13

Roberto De Zerbi added that back-up centre-halves Jan Paul van Hecke and Levi Colwill have “some problems” but that the rest of the team are in good condition for the visit of Steve Cooper’s troops.

De Zerbi also confirmed that Adam Lallana will start tomorrow.

“We have Colwill with some problems, JP van Hecke the same, but the others are in good condition.

“Mitoma [is out] too for this game for sure, and maybe for Manchester City.

“Tomorrow, Lallana plays for the first XI.” – Roberto De Zerbi

In his post-match interview on Friday, the Brighton boss said that he doesn’t believe the Seagulls “need to make changes [for Gameweek 12] because the [Brentford] game was good” but did add that fatigue could be a factor.

Jakub Moder (knee) remains out until spring 2023.

NOTTINGHAM FOREST

We finally got confirmation from Steve Cooper that Neco Williams‘ positional rival at Nottingham Forest, Serge Aurier, missed Gameweek 11 through injury.

The Forest boss was typically non-committal on Aurier’s prospects of recovering for Tuesday’s match against Brighton, offering similar updates on Lewis O’Brien (illness) and Renan Lodi (ankle).

“We picked up some injuries last week, and we’re still not ready to make a final decision on whether those lads are back yet. But it’s a three-game week, so that’s sometimes a chance to use more players than normal.

“Serge has had a bit of an accelerated programme since he came in without really having a pre-season, doing a few days, then going on international duty and playing minutes there, which was important. He played in the Leicester and Villa games. But it has all happened a bit quick, and when you do that you do tend to pick up some niggles, which is what he has. It’s a muscle injury, so we will see what today and tomorrow bring.

“Renan is more of a contact injury than a muscle injury. That is just trying to give him every chance for the kick and the swelling to come down. When that happens, you tend to progress quickly.

“Lewis was different. He was ill with a bug, which really knocked him back. Hopefully he can recover quickly by getting the right nutrition into him and getting the right training programme, because he is a really fit lad.

“With it being Saturday-Tuesday, it’s definitely a possibility [that we could look at making some changes]. I haven’t made a final decision on that yet, because there’s still quite a bit of preparation to go before the game.

“But, for sure, we have options, even though we have picked up a few knocks in the last couple of weeks. Some players are getting a bit fitter and stronger as well – people like Orel Mangala. He’s had a couple of weeks without any disruption, which has been important because he’s had a frustrating six weeks or so since he got injured.

“All of these are things you always have to manage – injuries and availability – especially when they are games in quick succession. At the same time, we will try to do our work wisely and see where we are at come kick-off. We’ll look at what we think it takes to do well in the game, and try to pick the right team.” – Steve Cooper, transcribed in the Nottingham Post

Omar Richards (leg), Moussa Niakhate (muscle) and Jack Colback (back) are again set to miss out.

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS

Pedro Neto (ankle), Sasa Kalajdzic (knee), Chiquinho (knee) and Raul Jimenez (groin) remain on the injury list but Nathan Collins returns from a three-match ban for the trip to Selhurst Park.

Caretaker boss Steve Davis said that Wolves don’t have a return date yet for Jimenez, while the other absentees are long-term in nature.

CRYSTAL PALACE

Patrick Vieira confirmed that Crystal Palace have no new injuries heading into Gameweek 12.

Will Hughes (illness) isn’t quite ready to return, while Chris Richards (hamstring) is still a couple of weeks away and the fit-again Nathan Ferguson (match fitness) is likely to get game-time with the under-21s first before he comes into contention.

James McArthur (groin) remains out but we’ve not had an update on Nathaniel Clyne for a while; the defender had been sidelined with a laceration but should be nearing a return based on Vieira’s previous prognosis.

    Trippier Guehi Dunk Neco
    Mount Bowen Eze Andreas
    Toney Mitrovic
    (Benching Cancelo Haaland KDB

Anyone playing his wildcard this GW?
Not really sure which players to get in but I'm thinking about three premium players and build around them? Salah, Kane and Haaland

On WC, considered all 3, but not pleased with the rest of rhe team then. So skipping Kane, Salah seems to have the fixtures and growing form for the next 2 GWs. Could be wrong

Im in the same boat. 5 ars city players plus maddison. The dilemma for me is do I keep Kane. Ive had him since Gw8 and he has returned every week. But If Haaland is perma cap, is a second premium needed?

Seeing a lot of people talking about going for TAA, are we all forgetting how poor he's been this season?

Points from every game bar the 9-0 v Bournemouth:
    Fulham - 1
    Palace - 3
    ManUtd - 0
    Newcastle - 2
    Everton - 1
    Brighton - 0
Arsenal - 0 (off injured at HT but conceded 2 goals in that time and was at least partly at fault for both goals)

Yes Liverpool were solid yesterday but no surprises that happened without TAA playing. He's been dreadful this season, why are people suddenly expecting he's going to do great against West Ham (Benrahma/Fornals), Spurs (Son) or Leeds (Harrison)?

I still own him so may as well keep now and hope he starts midweek. Be interesting to see if Klopp deploys him at RM in the 4-4-2 he's been fielding recently. Salah up top.

His Xgi is still on a par with previous season's. Its more Liverpool's overall defensive woes and team morale that's been the problem.
Not saying one game has fixed it but if they look good against WHam I'll have no qualms getting him until WorldCup.
Also worth noting, beyond Cancelo and Tripp there's no other stand out defenders who offer attacking returns and potential clean sheets.

Liverpool always up their game in big matches like that. They love that underdog tag so it was no surprise to me that they beat City. I'm still not convinced that they've turned a corner though. That being said, I do have Salah

      I would've got him in if I could've afforded my planned future transfers as well. I couldn't , so I haven't.

He has a lot to prove, now has a route to Qatar with all the injuries at RB, and has great fixtures - I reckon he does very well over the next 5GWs. Form is temporary and all that

Bottomed slightly on previous page so posting again (apologies).

Wanted to get some thoughts on some players possibly "saving" themselves for the World Cup as it draws nearer.

For example I went with Solanke over Mitrovic thinking the latter may try to manage his niggling injury over the next few GWs.

VVD's performance yesterday also demonstrated he is not in fact finished or the next Harry Maguire. He was extremely aggressive and looked like he had a point to prove vs Haaland.

I respect players are professionals and play with a lot of pride but you can see how distraught Richarlison was when coming off injured - it must play on their mind to some degree.

    Opinions appreciated.

    1. Boberella
      • 7 Years

Agree it may be a factor for some players in some games.
But I think the World Cup was the last thing on VVDs mind against city.

Going solanke over Mitro was a good move if you did it a couple weeks ago.

        • 1 Year

Sorry my comment re. VVD was not very clear - he was impeccable yesterday yet at times this season he's looked way off of it. Some were thinking perhaps he was saving himself for the Netherlands seeing as he missed the last major tournament with injury.

          • 7 Years

I don’t think players of VVDs calibre think too far beyond each game at a time. That’s why they’re so good and give 100% every game.

Agree he’s been slightly off this season, but most of the Liverpool team have, so could be down to somekind of change in the dynamic. They looked back to their best against city though, so I think that it was temporary, whatever it was.

Team looked hungry again (like a few seasons ago) and the atmosphere was amazing. I expect a good run before the WC now.

The atmosphere most definitely would have been a key factor.
They got a lot of opportunities on the counter due to city’s play, so that isn’t gonna happen every week either. Will be interesting to see how the next 3-4 gws play out for them.

It concerns me slightly for Mitrovic. Even though it doesn't seem in his character to give less than 100%, there must be some implicit pressure on Silva from the Serbia manager not to break him. I'm hanging on for Villa and maybe Leeds then looking to move him on

I guess the game state will also play a part.

Fulham really struggled to get a foothold vs Bournemouth who looked like they had the better chances to win it.

I feel what you're saying but l doubt Silva really cares about Serbia. Fulham own Mitrovic and need him, so seems unlikely they would unnecessarily rest unless they happened to be 3-0 up with 20 mins left or something.

Might be different if he was playing for a huge club and wasn't so essential.

Would you take a -4 to do Emerson > Guehi? I can get 11 out without it but means playing Williams (who might miss out and is useless)

    Team after hit would be:

    Pope
    Trippier / Guehi / Castagne / Romero
    Salah / Barnes / Zaha / Andreas
    Mitrovic / Kane

    Iversen / Williams / haaland / martinelli

I would probably not tbh. His upside is most likely really only 6-7 points.

Aurier might not play, so Williams could well start and he has to get another attacking return eventually.

Plus, it would be a bit of a disaster if you hit and Palace don't keep a clean sheet.

Who do you reckon will be displaced by Lallana starting? I see two possible candidates: Gross and Estupinan, who I think are not to De Zerbi's liking.

Gross: He was the one that came off for Lallana in the last match, direct sub and position.

Estupinan: Was subbed after 45 mins in the last match. Could be going for a very attacking 4-2-3-1 considering NFO will be parking the bus with Gross, Lallana, Trossard behind Welbeck with Lamptey and March as wingbacks.

His stats are good, he is cheap, plays this week and fulham have a terrible defence

Best of a lack of options

        Thanks.

I've seen Fulham's xG conceded is racking up as the weeks go on. Villa should also have scored a couple vs Chelsea at least so you could be right.

What do people expect next weekend for scorelines?

I can see City and Liverpool both winning 3-4 nil

And Arsenal with no midweek game also putting 2-3 past Southampton

I avoid hits , but i can do this now and its really tempting when you consider who Crystal palace and Newcastle are both playing

Ederson to Kepa -4, bench ward who i think concedes this week

Next week sell 3 players with tough fixtures and go for the high reward jugular
Zaha (eve), Bailey (bre), Kane (NEW) to Foden Saka and Darwin (-8) to get this

    Kepa
    Doherty Cancelo Trippier
    Salah Saka Foden Martinelli
    Haaland Mitro Darwin

    Crazy right?

        Damn great point

        Didnt know that

Thanks. Maybe i need to move for Foden this week so.

Hmm may do Ederson to Kepa so for another -4 tonight

Yea thinking about making the same move. Those fixtures for Zaha though. They continue far past GW16 too.

So an easy sell, he could go off but id know it was best choice

Yea next question is Saka or Foden, if I have Martinelli.

For me i like both and would like both

But im locked out, I have Ederson Cancelo Haaland so look like i need to just not get Foden (will cost -8), so Saka will come for me.

One option i have is to do Saka and Foden in over next 2 weeks for -4 each time

              e.g
13: Bailey + Kane to Saka + Jesus
              14 : Ederson + Zaha to 5mil goalkeepr + Foden (expect 8.5mil)

If Trossard starts at LWB would you still bring him in, or perhaps go for Gross instead?

I think they are all traps.

Get Trossard in the Gross hauls. Get Gross in MacAllister hauls. Get MacAllister in Trossard hauls.

      Rinse and repeat…

Do you think Sterling / Mount are in starting XI against brentford?

Used first FT on Maddison to Mount and have £1.3m ITB.

I can either save the second transfer and hope Emerson plays to make 11, or upgrade him.

I also am interested in getting Saka instead of Martinelli, but maybe that’s too sideways a move for next GW?

I could ship Martinelli out this week and then do Zaha to Saka on Friday.

    What do ye all think?

Keep Martinelli and add Saka with him

dont see much of an upside, take emerson 1 point from the bench and avoid the hit

Got 2FT so wouldn’t be for a hit.

The other option is keep Martinelli and do Zaha to Foden on Friday, which may be a better move.

            Pickford, Begovic
            Trippier, Cancelo, Guehi, Perisic, Emerson
            Salah, Mount, Martinelli, Zaha, Perreira
            Toney, Mitrovic, Haaland

Id look to turn Mount and Zaha into Saka and Foden next week in your position

              Do you have that moneywise?

Maybe move out Perisic to get there

                Yes I could do that.

Would ideally like to keep Mount, but it’s true that Saka’s next two fixtures are very tasty indeed!

Upshot is, play Emerson and save 2FT for the weekend for bringing in Foden and possibly Saka?

    Trent Alexander-Arnold.

    Hi Folks,

Do we think he'll start against WHU on Wed evening and then again Saturday lunchtime? He only played a minute/minutes yesterday. Do you think Klopp will ease him back in?? If Konaté or even Matip are fit, Gomez could easily fill in at RB. However, Trent will be dying to play minutes to try and get in World Cup squad.

    Thoughts.. ?

I'm v tempted to go with A .. would you?

    A)
    Salah rashford martinelli almiron Andreas
    Gw13 = rash > foden + perisic > 4.3 def

    B)
    Zaha trossard Foden rashford Andreas
    Gw13 = Trossard > saka

    Already Have Kane & Haaland.

Does A seem better option noting Salah fixtures??

Ederson really giving me a headache

Blocks Foden later and so many other cheaper goalies now. But if i keep i save +8 points

If i shift its for a -4 , and another extra -4 then to get Foden in.

    Stick or Twist?

Only for GW12, for a hit.

    A. Trossard (+ opponent, - minutes, LWB)
    B. Rodrigo (+ opponent, OOP - away game)
    C. Son (+ history, minutes - opponent, away game)
    D. Bowen ( + form, minutes, penalties - opponent, away game)

Son and Bowen are better players in my opinion. Trossard has the best fixture but will he start? Rodrigo has an attractive fixture and is a definite starter, isn't he? Confused.

      Team is:

      Pope
      Trippier, Struijk, Andersen, Webster
      Salah(c), Zaha, Andreas
      Mitrovic, Kane

      (Ward, KDB, Haaland, Martinelli, Saliba).
In the above post, I am considering the hit for KDB.

    Would like some advice please.

    Pope, Ward
    Cancelo, Justin, Trippier, Webster, Emerson
    KdB, Martinelli, Zaha, Maddison, Trossard
    Haaland, Mitro, Solanke

    1.5 itb

Plan is Haaland, Cancelo, Martinelli on the bench.
Out with Emerson, KdB, Maddison, in with Guehi, Salah, Mount.
I would love to get Saka and Foden in gw13 but Salah do have Forest and Leeds in gw13/14 so would also want him for that time, but then i cant get both Saka/Foden..
Maybe keep Salah for gw 13 then sell for Saka/Foden?

If I make kdb and Maddison to both Saka and Foden in gw13 i can make Mitro to Kane.

So it kinda boils down to which option is the best from gw13 to WC?
    A) Saka, Foden, Kane
    or
    B) Saka/Foden, Salah, Mitro
