Japan v Croatia team news: Borna Sosa has a virus

The fifth match of the World Cup 2022 knockout phase takes place on Monday 5 December at the Al Janoub Stadium, as Japan and Croatia fight for a quarter-final spot. Kick-off is at 15:00 GMT.

Shock wins over Spain and Germany meant the Samurai Blue topped a difficult Group E, whilst still finding time for a 1-0 defeat to Costa Rica. They’re now up against the 2018 runners-up, one of only five teams to end the group stage unbeaten.

The most-owned FIFA Fantasy player from these nations – Borna Sosa ($3.5m) – misses out completely due to a virus, so Rangers’ Borna Barisic ($4.0m) steps in at left-back. Croatia’s other change takes place up front, where Bruno Petkovic ($5.5m) replaces Marko Livaja ($5.0m).

A trio of Japanese starters didn’t do so against Spain, as Takehiro Tomiyasu ($4.5m), Wataru Endo ($5.0m) and Ritsu Doan ($6.0m) enter the starting XI. Out go Ao Tanaka ($5.0m), Takefusa Kubo ($5.5m) and the suspended Ko Itakura ($4.5m).

Popular assets like Ivan Perisic ($7.5m), Luka Modric ($8.5m) and goalkeeper Shuichi Gonda ($4.0m) all start.

    This is what I find so incredible too. Especially this new style of stopping and hitting the ball just like Pogba and Jorginho do is so silly. Did you see yesterday’s penalty by Lewandowski?? Had Lloris not been off his line, he would have missed again. A striker like him can put that in the corner with aplomb!

    This is really coin toss category. I may be in similar position after today. I think that watching Olmo play is more fun when owning him. I prefer the upside and even if Olmo fails to get an assist, he can get cs point and probably one for chances created. So I believe that he is pretty likely to get at least 2-3 points.

Budget 'hack' doesn't seem to work anymore. Transferred locked player - locked player to free up 1m in order to upgrade Sandro - Marquinhos. Now I have 1m in budget for MD5 team, but 0 in the budget for MD4.

So if you're using the 4 FTs on locked players to prepare for QF, and have nothing in the bank, I think you will only be able to make downgrades / trades between same priced players.

Only thing is I did this as 2 separate transfers. Maybe it could be different if you put multiple moves through at the same time.

  Actually it seems ok if you're doing multiple locked player moves in one go. Tried Messi & Theo and it allowed me to select more expensive defenders. I didn't confirm the moves but looks like it'll work.
