FPL Gameweek 17 restart: How many World Cup minutes did each player get?

A total of 133 Premier League players travelled to take part in the 2022 World Cup, so it’s time to analyse how many minutes were played by each.

With top-flight action resuming on Monday 26 December – just eight days after the World Cup final – Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers may understandably be apprehensive about such a quick turnaround.

DATE OF ELIMINATION

For all 133 players, let’s see when their country left the tournament and how long of a rest they’ll get until their Gameweek 17 match, which takes place between 26 and 28 December.

Some players came back early due to injury or personal reasons – like Arsenal pair Gabriel Jesus (£8.0m) and Ben White (£4.7m) – but all players that failed to reach the final four will have at least 16 days to recover physically and mentally.

That shouldn’t be a problem for FPL managers and neither should the 14 that went the whole distance. Of those, only William Saliba (£5.3m) and Ivan Perisic (£5.5m) have over ten per cent ownership, with Lisandro Martinez (£4.5m) slightly behind.

It should also be considered that 11 Premier League teams have a Carabao Cup tie beforehand, which names could return for.

Haaland Foden

FPLMarc Newcastle fan that spends far too much time thinking about FPL.

    Hello All,
    Thoughs on this team?

    Kepa Ward
    Trippier Dalot White Cancelo 4.0
    Kulu Salah Martinelli Rashford Andreas
    Darwin Haaland Martial

I wouldn't want two MUN attackers. Perhaps Rashford to Rodrigo or Almiron, or Martial to a cheaper fwd

Back to the reality of a 300k OR...........first draft - too much on the bench or OK given packed schedule?

    Kepa Ward
    Robertson James Trippier Shaw White
    Salah Foden Zaha Martinelli Almiron
    Haaland Wilson Mitrovic

I've got one 4m defender for 3rd bench, but otherwise a very similar structure. A few posters around here will hate it but I think it might be a smart way to start given fixture congestion & fitness uncertainty. Also allows you to bench Foden or Wilson if expecting rotation/rest, or Zaha for bad fixtures etc

Cheers, that is very helpful - I've only made 3 changes from my pre-WC team (RJames Salah and Mitrovic in for Castagne, KDB and Jesus).................would you drop Foden for Rashford (allowing Wilson>Darwin)?

Tricky one. Without KDB and a deep squad, I think I'd take my chances wih Foden. One or two defensive downgrades (Robbo - Patterson?) could enable Wilson - Darwin another way

        Edouard Mendy? Are you sure?

I think the answer is more to do with Kepa's distribution. Mendy not so comfortable with the ball at his feet (see Aaronson goal earlier this season)

How important do people see a playing second keeper?

Currently on Almiron as 5th mid with Iverson as second keeper (Ward other keeper)
Would you swap to Andreas as 5th mid and get Kepa/Pope?

The time zone in Qatar worked well for people across the world being able to watch it.

    How about:
    A) Egypt and Turkey share - 2 proper football countries. Have in the autumn, maybe a month earlier than this one.

Why not? What's so terrible about a winter break & why should the English take priority all the time?

India could be great. Not sure if they're any good but if they can recapture the kind of atmosphere of an IPL final with over 100,000 in attendance that'd be sweet
