Suspensions

Which FPL players are suspended or nearing a ban?

In this regular article, we look at the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players who are a caution away from a one-match ban.

We also round up which FPL assets are already suspended ahead of Gameweek 20.

A reminder: punishments for yellow card accumulation are competition-specific, whereas suspensions for dismissals cover all competitive matches.

We’ll update this article again after Chelsea’s two Double Gameweek 19 fixtures.

WHEN ARE THE CUT-OFF POINTS FOR SUSPENSIONS?

The table above is taken from the Football Association website and details the cut-off points for the various yellow card thresholds.

The one we’re concerned about right now is the five-caution mark, an unwanted target that Premier League players will have to avoid for their team’s first 19 league matches of the season.

Following the wave of postponements in the autumn and fixture rearrangements over the World Cup break, that is no longer Gameweek 19 for most teams.

Team19th fixture falls in…
ArsenalGameweek 21
Aston VillaGameweek 20
BournemouthGameweek 20
BrentfordGameweek 20
BrightonGameweek 21
ChelseaGameweek 20
Crystal PalaceGameweek 20 (second fixture of Double Gameweek)
EvertonGameweek 20
FulhamGameweek 19 (second fixture of Double Gameweek)
LeedsGameweek 21
LeicesterGameweek 20
LiverpoolGameweek 21
Man CityGameweek 20 (second fixture of Double Gameweek)
Man UtdGameweek 20 (second fixture of Double Gameweek)
NewcastleGameweek 20
Nottm ForestGameweek 20
SouthamptonGameweek 20
SpursGameweek 20 (first fixture of Double Gameweek)
West HamGameweek 20
WolvesGameweek 20

The above will change if there are any further rearrangements of the postponed fixtures before that.

CURRENTLY SUSPENDED

FPL review: Mitrovic suspended for second Gameweek 19 fixture 1

As you’re probably all too aware now, Aleksandar Mitrovic (£7.2m) will miss the second match of Fulham’s Double Gameweek 19 after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in the win over Leicester City.

He’s not flagged in FPL, of course, because he’s free to play in Gameweek 20, and the flags always (or should) reflect availability for the next deadline.

Adam Smith (£4.4m) is the only player currently banned for Gameweek 20, having collected his fifth booking of the season in midweek.

ON FOUR YELLOW CARDS

A total of 27 players are currently on the verge of suspension.

Kieran Trippier (£6.0m), Bukayo Saka (£8.1m), William Saliba (£5.3m), Harry Kane (£11.6m) and Fabian Schar (£5.0m) are the most notable names from an FPL perspective, each of whom is owned by more than 10% of managers.

Trippier and Schar will be in the clear if they avoid a booking against Fulham in Newcastle United’s next league game, while Saka and Saliba have to dodge a yellow card in both Gameweeks 20 and 21 if they are to swerve a one-game ban.

Spurs have played 18 league matches already this season, so their 19th game will fall in the first of their two Double Gameweek fixtures. We could have a Mitrovic situation, then, with Kane picking up a caution in the north London derby and then sitting out the clash with Manchester City!

The only players on three yellow cards who can still get a one-match ban are those playing for Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Brighton and Hove Albion, Crystal Palace or Leeds United, as everyone else has contested 18 games already.

Keep your eyes peeled on our Suspension Tightrope widget over the coming weeks and months, as we’ll be updating that after every Gameweek to keep you informed on the latest disciplinary developments.

I’m sure this has been discussed but when do we get DGW20 confirmation and why is it already showing as a double on FPL?

We'll know after the FA Cup ties involving Man City and Spurs this weekend. If neither club needs a replay, DGW20 goes ahead for those two.

There *could* be another fixture added to GW20 if the social media speculators are to be believed but again, not something that will be announced before those cup ties.

We'll know for sure by Sunday, once Spurs have played (Saturday) and City have played. It's showing as a double now because it is a scheduled fixture. However if one of those teams requires an FA Cup replay, it has to be fit into that week when Spurs v City is supposed to be played, so the PL fixture will be postponed

Just needs to avoid a yc vs Arsenal and he's good.

So yes, Mitro 2.0 I'm afraid.

Yes he is haha. But it doesn't matter really. If he doubles in 20, Haaland does as well and there's no way I'm not captaining Haaland in a DGW.

Sometimes, if I'm 100% set on the move & there's a substabtial price swing coming. More often in the early stages of the season though. Certainly not this week.

With a lack of premiums performing well just now I have plenty funds in the bank so I don’t feel in any rush to make changes. Rage transfers are immediately satisfying but they come with a risk if you do them too early, too often.

I started scoping out some of the TC Haaland possibilities yesterday (see hot topic). Inclined to wait for a better DGW than 20/23.

BB23 looks pretty good for my projected team. That's a maybe.

FH - no idea. WC - haven't felt the need to consider it yet.

Beginning to become tempted by wildcard this week. Of course depends on what doubles go ahead (if any), but I have some players I need to move due to injury and not being nailed as well as others that just aren't performing, and could mean I could jump on a few punts as well as getting in players that I clearly just need now.

Something like Patterson, Cash, Foden, Pereira, Almiron, Nunez, Mitrovic ➡️ 2 defs (not sure who, have Dalot Trippier and White), Mitoma, MacAllister, Rashford, Mbeumo, Kane

Would be wasting my rolled FT but I'm on an unending slide right now so I feel I need some changes. Will probably just take -4 and bring in the Brighton boys and Kane but we'll see how things look after the FA Cup games. My WC before a double last season propelled me from around 800k to eventually finishing inside 90k, this is a lot earlier though, have to think on it

      1. Vlad Tepes
        • 7 Years

I would not get rid of Pereira and Almiron, great value there.

          • 3 Years

They are, but short term I think I'd be happy to move Pereira to Mitoma (0.3 more) and Almiron, well I'm not keen on losing him but I'm languishing around 2.5m right now so feel I have to go for it. His shots have decreased in the past couple of games (last game understandable of course) and Isak coming back may perhaps impact him. Brighton look like the business at the minute so I'm happy to back them in that punt given their fixture run and likely impending doubles

If I owned Mitoma, Mac Allister and Mbeumo, I would transfer them out for Pereira, Almiron and Mitrovic.

Mbeumo typically struggles to hit a barn door, even in good fixtures he's about as reliable as Avanti West Coast.

        1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
          • 3 Years

That's cool, I'm happy to take some punts and go my own way, not exldcting anyone here to say "yes these are all good moves". Not to say I won't get any players back in later on either (certainly Mitrovic in that bracket). Mbeumo can definitely be frustrating but I think he's talking on more responsibility with Toney out and he may end up receiving his ban soon. Nice fixtures too

Yeah Mbeumo does have attractive fixtures.

I owned him for about 10 weeks earlier in the season as I found I never had the FT to move him on and he was absolutely dreadful for me.

I do like the Mitoma pick though, exciting player.

I'm normally in the same boat, it's a long 18GWs left after this without recourse to reshaping my whole team if I did it so I probably will end up avoiding it (having 2FTs helps a little meanwhile). I'll see how things go, if a few doubles get announced it's an option albeit a risky one

            1. Mirror Man
                1 year, 4 months ago

Yes, the banked transfer is helpful. Some of the players you mentioned above are squad players or peripheral figures. Of the first 11 types you mentioned, a -4 (3 transfers) could solve a lot of problems as we have plenty of cheap midfielders (Foden downgrade) to allow Kane (Nunes upgrade). 4pts, or even 8pts, is worth savin g that blessed chip imo.

I like this idea of jumping on some Brighton/Brentford differentials. Your defence seems fine though if Dalot starts so 2 FTs & -4 will probably the job. As you say, maybe too early to decide to just yet. Happy to chat about some drafts next week if you want

            What’s everyone doing with Mitrovic?

(new, TOT, che) next and no DGWs. Could it be time to sell?

If fit, Toney is also in form and has (BOU, lee, SOT) next, so could be a good switch?

Toney or bench until 2FTs and downgrade.

Planned to bench him for Newcastle (A). More than happy to play him v Spurs (H). I guess the upcoming fixtures aren't as good as Wilson/Toney, but then his xMins are much more reliable & he's still my preferred option long-term. All a bit up in the air right now - waiting to see what happens with Kane DGW / Wilson fitness / Toney ban.

Mitro's still a hold unless you're targeting doubles once they're confirmed imo

I actually like the Spurs and Chelsea games but he'll be getting benched this week. That being said I wouldn't be surprised to see him score against Newcastle, he's pretty fixture proof and I'm sure feels like he has something to prove to Newcastle / Newcastle fans

Yeah this is true - the TOT/CHE defences aren’t up to much. My bench is pretty rubbish (Bueno, Andreas, Patterson) so I think I’ll likely still start Mitro against NEW, unless I ditch Mitro for a few weeks (Toney/Martial). Reckon I should just keep and start Mitro?

Yeah I'd say just keep, I've been contemplating moving to Mbeumo if Toney gets banned with immediate effect but even then I think Mitrovic has solid fixtures for a while, and he's their talisman and Fulham are only going to play one way, so he's always going to be around returns

Cheers. Think I’m with you there. Was also toying with Andreas -> Bailey and benching Mitro this week, but that could easily backfire so probably not worth a FT

If you had Saka, would you trade him in for Martinelli/Odegaard.

I took the risk of doing Martinelli-Saka in WC so feels undoable to go back now.

Probably not unless you have a good use for the funds saved? They all seem to have a similar xGi and Saka is on pens. I currently have Gabriel and Martinelli so will likely be choosing between Ode and Saka for my 3rd ARS player soon.

To get Kane I need to swap in either Cancelo or Saka to a cheaper option (Odegaard or Akanji f.e.)

Hmmm. Cancelo not starting the last 2 and Pep being Pep makes me think he’s not worth the money at the moment. Not sure why but Akanji appears to be nailed at the moment. I’m on Ederson myself, who has been pretty rubbish, so I wouldn’t say a MCY defender is critical.

What do we think of Dalot? I think he's a better pick than Shaw if they have the same minutes. He is a bonus point magnet and got max bonus in basically every game United kept a clean sheet. 4.7m vs 5.1m as well and the lower ownership.

Is Wan Bissaka the starting RB now or is he just being shopped around to be sold in January? I'm hoping it's the latter. Surely Dalot when fit comes back into the team.

I think Dalot is preferred over AWB but it’s probably worth waiting until he starts a game before bringing in. Unless they get a DGW in 20 there’s no rush to get either until 22 imo.

Ps getting Shaw 2 weeks ago has been one of my better transfers!

Dalot is the best UTD def pick there is, just wait one or two more weeks I would say.

"I like these problems. He is doing really well, Aaron, in the last few games. Defending really consistently. He is also reliable in offence. He has a part in it, he contributes well. It's a nice fight in the squad but also, we have a lot of games to cover, so we need them all."

No offense, but Dalot should walk back into that team over AWB

I stupidly went Dalot over Shaw hoping he'd only miss one game. He's been excellent this season and knocked Cancelo out of the Portuguese XI as well. AWB has been goof though and it does worry me a bit, I can see him getting rotated more than he would have been before the break

Transfer priorities here? (CAPS = possible DGWers). Nothing much stands out. Maybe Mitrovic -> Toney/MARTIAL?

            EDERSON
            SHAW, Trippier, Gabriel
            KDB, RASHFORD, Mount, Martinelli
            HAALAND, KANE, Mitrovic

            Kepa, Andreas, Bueno, Patterson
            Bank 0.3m, 1FT

            Early thoughts appreciated - 2FT, 2.2M ITB.

            Kepa
            Trippier, Gabriel, Shaw
            KDB, Rashford, Martinelli, Almiron
            Kane, Haaland, Mitrovic

            (Ward, Andreas, Bueno, Patterson*).

Considering Patterson -> Akanji/Schar/Botman but that'd also give me a benching headache. May look to shift on Almiron (Odegaard?) soon.

            Cheers

Nothing obvious stands out (similar team to mine above). Maybe Kepa -> Ederson if they get a DGW? I think he’s most likely to start both if you want a MCY defender. The Patterson move is also fine.

Cheers, will sit tight I think and see how the doubles pan out. I like the idea of Ederson's assurance of starts but his points tally is really poor (13th!). I'll probably end up just sticking with 2. I'd keep Mitro btw 🙂

The best thing that could happen in FPL terms would be Kepa saving Haaland's penalty. He's still captained by millions and obviously not by me.
