FPL Gameweek 27 team news: Brentford injury news + more

The pre-match press conferences for Double Gameweek 27 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) have begun to take place.

As usual, we’ll be bringing you all the key quotes and injury updates that you need for your teams over the coming 24 hours or so.

Five Premier League bosses held pressers on Thursday, with updates from the 15 other head coaches set to come on Friday.

Among those facing reporters on Friday will be Mikel Arteta, who will hopefully bring us a further update on Martin Odegaard after the Norwegian midfielder and Kieran Tierney reportedly missed the midweek UEFA Europa League tie against Sporting due to illness.

KEY UPDATES FROM THURSDAY

BRENTFORD

We only heard from the manager of one of the Gameweek 27 ‘doublers’ on Thursday, Brentford’s Thomas Frank.

He had little to report on the injury front, with everyone fully fit bar back-up goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha (ankle) and bit-part winger Keane Lewis-Potter (knee).

Lewis-Potter will be out for up to two months with a knee injury sustained during a recent behind-closed-doors game but Strakosha is back in training and nearing a return.

LEICESTER CITY

James Maddison is “available” for Leicester City’s match against Chelsea, although Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers admitted that the midfielder is still “managing an issue”.

Maddison has been plagued by knee niggles for much of the calendar year but lasted 90 minutes against Southampton last weekend.

“With every player, they’re never normally 100 per cent. There’s usually something. He’s managing an issue which still allows him to perform. Against Southampton, he was outstanding. He showed that quality that’s needed in a game. He’s available to play and contribute for us.” – Brendan Rodgers on James Maddison

Jonny Evans (thigh) could come back into the matchday squad after four months out, while Harvey Barnes is hoping to shake off an ankle injury sustained in Gameweek 26.

“Jonny has trained so all being well he should come into the squad for the weekend, which is good news for us.

“We’re hopeful [Harvey] might well make it. We won’t know until tomorrow so we’ll see where that’s at.” – Brendan Rodgers

EVERTON

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (hamstring) is back in training ahead of the Brentford game this weekend, while left-back Vitalii Mykolenko could also be available for selection after overcoming the illness that saw him miss Sunday’s 2-2 draw away to Nottingham Forest.

Nathan Patterson (knee) completed 90 minutes for the under-21s on Monday and is building match fitness but Andros Townsend (ACL) remains unavailable.

“Dom is in and around it again, with us training. We are still making a decision on him being truly right to come back in. [On this weekend] it’s early yet, he’s just got on the grass with us, but he’s done a lot of rehab – the stats and facts – and the way he’s feeling is good. It’s positive signs that’s for sure.”

“Myko is just illness. We’re making a decision on his strength. He is just coming out of illness but has trained today. Patto has played another game, but he’s still just getting that true match sharpness.

“[Townsend] isn’t close and he’s had a knee injury with some setbacks. It seems to be calming now and he’s in a better place with it now.” – Sean Dyche

LEEDS UNITED

Adam Forshaw (hip) and Stuart Dallas (knee) remain out but Luis Sinisterra (muscle) and Rodrigo Moreno (ankle) have been back in training this week, so are nearing a return.

There were quotes on Patrick Bamford (leg) but none concerning his fitness; last week, however, Javi Gracia said that the injury-prone striker “should be ready” for the game against Brighton and Hove Albion.

“They are doing something with the team. Some long-term injured players need a process to adapt and to come back with the team. They are doing something with the team and in the next training session, we will evaluate where they are, if they can help us in the next game or if it’s better to wait.

“I think we need all the players. Of course in the last game we didn’t have many other options to substitute some attacking players but now we are working with more players and I suppose if everything is right in the next training session, we’ll have more options for the next game.” – Javi Gracia on Rodrigo Moreno and Luis Sinisterra

NOTTINGHAM FOREST

Willy Boly (hamstring), Scott McKenna (hamstring), Dean Henderson (thigh), Giulian Biancone (ACL) and Omar Richards (leg) remain unavailable but Cheikhou Kouyate (hamstring), Taiwo Awoniyi (groin) and Moussa Niakhate (hamstring) are closing in on a return.

Steve Cooper had said after last week’s draw with Everton that the trio were “not far away” and, in Thursday’s presser, again mentioned that Kouyate was “close”.

The Forest boss had also previously said that Niakhate could be on the bench this weekend.

“I don’t think there are any fresh injuries. Some boys are getting close. Chiekhou has done a little bit of training this week, so he is close. We didn’t risk him today when the snow came down, because it would have been silly to do that.

““The boys are getting closer, but nothing that is really going to affect this weekend. But as the days and weeks go by it becomes a bit more positive. The quicker we can get some guys back, the better.” – Steve Cooper

I messed up on WC26. Would you rectify the problem or roll with it?

    A. Start Kepa & Odegaard. Save FT

    B. Sanchez -> Raya. Start Odegaard. Go with Estupinan & Mitoma only from Brighton

    C. Sanchez & Odegaard -> Raya & March (-4).

Hi guys, just pondering some hits here.

Ederson

    Trippier - White - Shaw

Rashford - Salah - Mitoma - Saka

    Haaland - Toney - Darwin

Only have FH chip left for GW 29

Have already done Gnonto > Toney for my FT

Just wondering if Tarkowski > Henry is worth a hit?

Also would you do Ederson > Raya for a -8?

    Thoughts appreciated gents.

No hits can be a good thing, but really would of imagined Tarkowski > Henry would defo be worth it considering he had no double after this GW.

I have, they don't specifically say around using chips and their effect on the general transfers. I can understand if you play a FH or WC and the transfer not carrying over but I was hoping the free transfer would carry over if you use the BB. Can't seem to find the clarity on the help section though

Minor repost, lot of info to digest but a lot is similar. Thank you for any replies! Means a lot.

    GW27 team w/ 1FT & 0.4 ITB;
    Kepa
    Trent, Badiashile, White, Burn
    Salah, Rashford, Odegaard, Mitoma
    Haaland, Kane (c)

    Ward, Nketiah, Kilman, Andreas

Plans are replies below. Feel free to respond to this comment or any of the individual plans below if you think I can squeeze in better players. Context: No WC or TC left. Only FH & BB remaining. Only just broke into the top 1M and aiming for top 100K finish.

      Plan A (No Haaland);
      GW27: Trent & Nketiah > Henry & Toney(c) -4
      GW28: Haaland & Andreas > Watkins & Saka* -4
GW29: White > Trippier = BB & 11x DGWers with Kilman, Saka, Odegaard & Kane as SGWers.

*Saka could be Maddison, then would have 12 DGWers in GW29.

      Plan B (Keep Haaland);
      GW27: Trent & Nketiah > Henry & Toney(c) -4
      GW28: Salah & Andreas > Maddison & Saka -4
GW29: White > Trippier = BB & 10x DGWers with Kilman, Saka, Odegaard, Kane & Haaland as SGWers

Prefer B. I like Madders for his double and Saka is solid pick long term and without blanks. I wouldn't go C, selling Salah before Bournemouth seems like a bad idea. Ten double game week players is decent and the bench looks good. And you're going to want Haaland back if you sell him in the short term, so if you can keep him, keep him.

      Plan C (No Salah);
      GW27: Salah & Nketiah > Saka & Toney(c) -4
      GW28: Trent & Andreas > Emerson Royal & Maddison -4
GW29: White > Trippier = BB & 9 DGWers with Kilman, Emerson Royal, Saka, Odegaard, Kane & Haaland as SGWers

    Pope
    Trent, Trippier, Estupinan
    Saka, Odegaard, Rashford, Martinelli
    Kane, Haaland, Felix

    Kepa, Tarkowski, Ake, Pereira

    2 FTs £ £1.5m in the bank

Thinking of doing Felix & Pereira to Toney & Mitoma for free (and benching Odegaard)…

    Any better moves to make?

Just because he has the same information doesn't mean he knows what it means. I would disagree with Rupert because they're both on 101.5 - 102 and you can assume a % of these transfer are from WCs which don't affect price changes, thus I personally would assume with 5 minutes left on the clock they won't rise.

But that's why Ballsy_B is asking.

Yeah, on the surface it seems the obvious move, but Steele has better fixtures these doubles, and is a lot cheaper, and I'll probably be starting Kepa more than either of them more often or not.

If Steele is the outright starter there now then I think he might be the play. Tough.

My reservation is that is that you never know when Sanchez will return and Steele gets benched. Will he play the double? Raya, on the other hand, is pretty much guaranteed. But I hear you on saving some dosh and taking the punt that Steele will play both – with the nicer fixtures.

I think I’m going Raya. The uncertainty with Sanchez/Steele coupled with the fact that it opens back up another Bri spot. With 4 more doubles, I’ll want another attacker

I was going to sell Shaw for Pinnock to finance Mitrovic to Toney. However, Shaw had another good game tonight. Is it still the right move?

How did he look the game before tonight?

In all seriousness, if you can handle his blank, then keep him.

GW27/28 you are comparing playing two fixtures vs playing 6 fixtures potentially

8 fixtures in total if you Toney(c) DGW27

So, to clarify because it is very late here and I am dead, you are saying go for it?

    Bench 1:
    Mee
    Estupinan
    Shaw
    Trippier

Shaw. Mee and Estupinan have doubles, why are they even on this list?

If he didn’t list them, others would be like “don’t bench shaw or trippier, bench someone else”

I see. Perhaps, but then shouldn't he list all five defenders? I suppose the last one's a keeper, lol.

Last defender is White, I've already made the decision to bench him

Genuinely think Trippier v Shaw v Mee is closer than we think

I’d consider benching an arsenal midfielder before the 3 defenders. If that’s not an option, has to be between shaw and trippier. Probably shaw.

Currently benching White and Odegaard, Starting Saka...

                Tough decision for sure
