Minimising investment in goalkeepers has long been a popular adage among seasoned Fantasy managers. Year after year, we find ourselves searching for budget offerings who offer the sought-after combination of clean sheet and save-point potential.

The wider meta, however, often runs contrary to this strategy – with premium goalkeepers such as Thibaut Courtois, Hugo Lloris and David de Gea consistently ranking among the most popular players in Fantasy Premier League in terms of ownership.

Torn about this Aguero news, do I take the uninspiring route of getting Lukaku despite him and United looking poor going forwards (Huddersfield game before people bring up fixtures) or do I get the risky short term pick of Jesus (seems too short term to me) or do I just get Morata given he's the only one I'd want long term of the three options, unless United and Kaku take it up a gear, despite him having Liverpool the gw after this. Decisions...

    Points v Team Value debate

    Would you rather today ?

A ... a TV +2.0 over what you currently have

    Or

B ... the extra 20 points saved from hits on your OR that gave you the +2.0 mill

    1. FantasyFootballSprout
      • 8 Years

The money imo. 20 points can easily be gained back with a better valued team.

      1. Hotdogs for Tea

50 points is 12.5 hits chasing TV, not sure you would need that many ?

20 points is 5 hits, may be 28 points for 7 hits could have strategically gained you +2.0 TV over your current hits and TV?

I understand this is theoretical, but gaining 2.0 off of five hits? Man, it would have to be the five perfect guys out for the five perfect guys in, which rarely ever happens. For this reason, the points hits usually don't pay off. Give me the 20 points all day.

but even if there were that many risers, it also assumes that you don't want to keep those players, because those players are all keepers/bargains

          1. Hotdogs for Tea
            • 10 Years
            8 years, 24 days ago

Sane, Silva, Jones, Gross, Salah, Ward etc .... lots of season keepers that with a hit at the right time could have been FPL gold dust ... I let most of them pass me by rather than taking a -4 at the time

            1. livingbeetroot
              • 9 Years
              8 years, 24 days ago

my point being is that once you've got the price rise out of these players, you need to replace them with someone better and cheaper, which isn't easy! You could get a better name, but not necessarily a better asset.

              1. Hotdogs for Tea
                • 10 Years
                8 years, 24 days ago

Not really, the question is about taking a hit to get a price rise and being able to afford the mixture of a more expensive team - losing points to gamble on TV. Players will lose form, get rotated or injured (Kane, Morata, Lukaku, Jesus, Eriksen as premium assets for example that have all been heavily sold for such reasons in the recent past) and having that extra 2.0 gives a great advantage in shaping your team going forward.

People on here blandly quote ‘points over TV’ but I do not think it is that simple or ‘black and white’

                1. livingbeetroot
                  • 9 Years
                  8 years, 23 days ago

you could build a perfectly mediocre team for 102m or an awesome one for 98m. Chasing price rising is pointless if you don't spend the money correctly, The Fabregas/Gross/Bellerín/Mee example given earlier highlights that perfectly. Buy low and sell high as a by-product of good management, as is knowing who the movers and shakers are of course, but arbitrage for the sake of team value is pointless.

You would have been happy to get one and sit back for 85? I wanted two from the start.

Same here, but to be safe, I wanted a two goal lead. Then sit back.

Would like your views on the following team, wildcard active...

    DDG
    Azpilicueta, Mee, Daniels, Duffy
    Salah, Sane, Mahrez, Loftus-Check
    Kane, Aguero

    Bench:
    Elliot, Otamendi, Surman, Niasse
    ITB 0.1

    Good to go?

Of course Aguero is out, he did not even regain consciuosness until in the hospital. It not like just feeling a bit dizzy when bending to tie laces.

Anyone who thinks he plays this week is deluded, he was doubtful anyway just as a normal rotation risk.

Wow. Just seen David silva is a possible injury doubt as well as kun.

    In addition sterling is flagged.

Was sterling withdrawn from England as a precaution? Is he likely to play at weekend??

    Thanks

    Fabianski - Elliot
    Kolasinac - Otamendi - Yoshida - Mee - Long
    Eriksen - Salah - Silva - Atsu - Carroll
    Kane - Aguero - Abraham

    Thanks guys!
