Watchlist Update – Alisson consolidates hold on Goalkeepers top-spot

We have begun our update of the Watchlist ready for Gameweek 9.

Up first is the goalkeepers after we ran the rule over the best Fantasy Premier League options between the sticks.

Read ahead to find out how we’ve ranked each asset.

Alisson (£5.6m) remains top of the Watchlist for goalkeepers but has consolidated his position there. The Liverpool man’s latest clean sheet brings his form back to A, with only three shot-stoppers ranking higher than him in that department on the official FPL website. Alisson also gets the Favourable Fixtures back with Huddersfield (away), Cardiff (home), Arsenal (away) and Fulham (home) his next four matches.

Ederson‘s (£5.7m) factors remain the same, A for form and no fixture aspect, so he stays in second place. Two home fixtures against Burnley and Southampton appear to have excellent clean sheet potential but they sit next to a trip to Spurs and the visit of Manchester United.

Another shutout and bonus-haul for Rui Patricio (£4.6m) in Gameweek 8 justified our decision to put him third on the Watchlist several weeks ago. The Wolves man obviously retains his A for form, has appealing fixtures and is still a bargain at £4.6 so he stays where he is.

Kepa (£5.5m) comes back onto the goalkeeper Watchlist in fourth place following the recent drop in Marcos Alonso‘s (£7.0m) attacking numbers. We had taken the decision to remove the Chelsea shot-stopper because Alonso was offering potential at both ends of the pitch, and when we weren’t so sure about Chelsea keeping clean sheets, we did not want to hugely encourage a defensive double-up. However, if Alonso is regressing offensively, and Maurizio Sarri’s men are looking solid at the back, then Kepa deserves to be an option once again as he can offer the same level of defensive potential for a much cheaper price.

Kasper Schmeichel (£5.0m) rises up the rankings a little as Leicester’s fixtures look very promising after Gameweek 9. Furthermore, they have ranked very favourably for shots conceded, efforts on target allowed and big chances conceded over the last four Gameweeks, all of which can be seen in the Members’ Area.

Bernd Leno (£4.8m) retains the Favourable Fixtures for a little longer which is why he is still sixth in the list. Once a home match with Leicester and a trip to Crystal Palace are out of the way, Arsenal face tough matches against Liverpool, Spurs and Man United between Gameweek 11 and 15.

Likely to overtake the German very soon, and hot on his tails, is Brighton shot-stopper Mat Ryan (£4.5m). His first clean sheet of the season in Gameweek 8, plus some bonus too, was timed well with the Seagulls’ fixture swing and has seen his form rise from C to B. Between now and Gameweek 21 on our Season Ticker, they rank second for defence.

Ben Foster (£4.5m) returns to the Watchlist now that Watford’s fixtures have perked back up again. The schedule is favourable for the Hornets with Huddersfield, Newcastle and Southampton three of their next four opponents. Foster comes in with a C for form with no clean sheet since Gameweek 1, however.

Just below him is Newcastle’s custodian Martin Dubravka (£5.0m). The Magpies may have allowed a considerable number of shots over the past four Gameweeks but the quality of their fixtures cannot be overlooked. Brighton (home), Southampton (away) and Watford (home) are their next three opponents.

Lukasz Fabianski (£4.5m) gets onto the list for his ability to cover Rui Patricio’s tougher fixtures in Gamweeks 11 and 12. That’s when Wolves face Spurs and Arsenal while West Ham play Burnley and Huddersfield.

Not surprisingly, Wayne Hennessey (£4.6m) has now dropped off the Watchlist. Crystal Palace’s awful quadruple-hit of tough fixtures is now just one week away. Between Gameweeks 10 and 13, the Eagles must run the gauntlet of Arsenal (home), Chelsea (away), Spurs (home) and Man United (away).

Joe Hart (£4.6m) has also been pushed off the Watchlist after failing to keep it Cardiff or Huddersfield. Furthermore, it’s Man City (away) and Chelsea (home) up next for the Clarets.

Only three players Premier League players have missed matches with thumb-related injuries since 2012, points out Freelance Injury Data Analyst Ben Dinnery.

As someone who is still relatively new to the season ticker, how do I use the sort by rotation tab effectively? I’m trying to find rotation patterns for my defence on WC and looking at the likes of Wolves, West Ham, Brighton, Newcastle.
      Cheers.

I think you just click on the team you are interested in and then sort. I think that's it unless I'm mistaken

I usually sort by difficulty and see what teams fill the gaps to have a strong home fixture rotation. Then look into away fixtures as well, if a few home fixtures don't line up. WHU/WOL is very nice for the next five.

How about Billing > Knockaert. Brighton has some good fixtures and you could go with 3-4-3 as AWB and Doherty has some ugly fixtures in front of them. But if I had to pick one of the above I would go with D.

Well I think when you talk about a low-budget midfielder you can never be 100% sure. But I took the risk myself and hope he brings at least some cs points :). Good luck with the choice.

Assuming you have Kane instead, I think they will score roughly even in the next two, so no rush.

      Kevin de Bruyne

What are we thinking chaps and chapesses?

Providing he plays some part this weekend, could be a bold differential to bring him in.

I keep hearing people say he's cheap, but at 9.7 is he from a fpl perspective? He started at 10.5 (correct me if wrong) last season but was downgraded for the current one because in the latter half of the season sat deeper and deeper. If he was 9.2 I'd snap him up but think at the mo we need a good 4-5 gw min to weigh it up before spending close to 10 mil on him.

But then again, it IS kdb.

      Thoughts?

      1. MTPockets
          5 years, 6 months ago

I'm keen, but can't find a way to get him without serious downgrades elsewhere (+ Hazard, Salah, Aguero).
Not sure about it on balance.

I believe he started last year with 10.0 as well. Distinctive thing about KDB is he is almost never rotated and that can't be said for Sterling, Dilva, Bilva, Sane and Mahrez. But yes, you can afford to wait till he's fit enough to play a whole game.

He's an awkward price as there's few mids currently performing in that bracket. You'll want to be sure before you bring him in. He used to be fairly steady so you should be able to just monitor and decide if he's essential

Is there a belief that Lacazette is going to keep gathering the points? Looks like he is up against some of the tougher defences soon...especially compared to the defences he scored points against.

I think Mendy is the safer choice here as Delph is injured and Aurier is back to rotate with Trip especially with CL games coming. But really hard to choose between Kane and Agüero. I have them both.
