Meet the Manager #8 – Kenneth Tang

Kenneth Tang’s Fantasy Premier League career history is nothing short of breathtaking.

A third of his 12 season finishes have been within the top 500 and a quarter within the top 200.

In total he has nine top 10,000 finishes and impressively almost broke into the top 100 during his first ever campaign, back in 2006/7.

In our latest Meet the Manager interview Kenneth reveals how close attention to the fixtures of the top six sides each year has been crucial to his success.

Wildcard timing is also vital, with his first of this season still to be played. Using his big-six fixture strategy he also explains why Gameweek 16 looks to be the optimum time to deploy this chip and ensure he marches up the overall rankings, perhaps even jettisoning his premium defence along the way.

As a veteran of FPL he explains how the advent of the second Wildcard saw the game change and forced him to tweak his strategy and planning.

The value of the eye test is also key for Kenneth. From his Hong Kong base he is able to regularly spend Saturday and Sunday nights watching matches, although with a new born baby this has not been as regular as previous campaigns.

The chat with Kenneth is available to view on Youtube here and in the embedded video below.

Midfielder for WHU, playing good minutes and getting involved in attack at 4.5, I'm looking at him as bench fodder as well and he's outperforming Kenedy/Murphy who are slightly more pricy. Doesn't free much up in the budget though. Wilson to Success would give you some cash for a midfield step up on Shaq

I totally agree with Keneth's view on how important eye test is and that he couldn't play Fpl without watching football. This game would be only numbers, prices, names etc.For me football is above everything.

Sure, but I don't see the need for a dichotomy - eye test on one hand and stats on the other. A lot of the time the stats back up what the eye test tells you. E.g. a player looks threatening and 'due'? Stats will show he has lots of touches in the box, attempts etc.

      1. wulfrunian

Of course the best thing is to combine both of them.Is just i could still play fpl without stats but not without watch football.

This is longstanding issue in Fantasy (American) Football stats guys say the film guys miss stuff, film guys say the stats guys don't understand nuances -> its got to be a holistic approach

Why is Jimenez preferred over Ings on here? Ings has better stats and he can easily be rotated with Wan-Bissaka who most people have.

After Saturday, I would say definitely yes. He was quite poor and bullied by Fernandez and then Schar when he came on. Crucially, he lost the ball in the run up to the goal we conceded - Fernandez was just too strong for him. Deeney wouldn't have been pushed off the ball so easily, And it was right in front of Gracia.

Some help please.. Have £0.0m in the bank but 2FT.

    Ederson
    Alonso Gomez AWB
    Salah Hazard Richarlison Fraser
    Lacazette Aguero Arnautovic

    Subs: Hamer Hojbjerg Bennett Stankovic

I’m thinking to go Ederson > Ryan, bank £1m then save the transfer, good call? Or shall I get rid of both keepers and get in Fabianski and Pat?

    Week after I may do:

    Stankovic > Mendy
    Lacazette > Wilson?

    1. MTPockets

Playing Jimenez in good games for Wolves. Doherty just as 4th def alternative to TAA atm - not over Jimenez.

there's an argument for him starting over Jimenez for good games? His attacking stats are even better than Alonso's, how do you bench someone like that?

          1. MTPockets

Because he's still a Wolves defender. Ideally start both in best games (like HUD/car)

What's the most probable outcome? My guess for a realistic 'good' single-week outcome is something like a goal and assist, or brace, or something along those lines - anything above that is still possible of course, but unrealistic (even against Fulham). As such I don't think it's worth it, as it's a much bigger gamble than a DGW (again, despite Fulham!).

No as I will leave for spurs away, and get back in week after, so not worried...

Maybe by then he will be fully fit

I might but bleeding team value for someone worth 4.5m atm is worth a hit most likely.

Aguero for me. Cant miss a 20 pointer - theres 2 or 3 a season usually. Alonso could go on a run of 2 pointers at some point

Alonso. Better value and potentially more nailed during fixture congestion.

I'm guessing this is a question about Sterling 😉

I'd say Alonso is more important, as his returns are unique to the Chelsea team, whereas Sterling is arguably a better City asset to own than Aguero.

My answer is not so much about 'coverage' - more a case of, if you can afford one City attacker, it can be either Sterling or Aguero, but if you can afford one Chelsea defender, it has to be Alonso.

I think Sterling will get a haul vs Bournemouth but I think that will be his only one in the next couple of months.

Aguero scores better away from home, is on pens and is less rotation prone

Also im trying to convince myself here as it looks like i will do sterling to mane this week 🙂

Nothing to do with Sterling 🙂

Fair enough - my answer still stands, as Alonso's returns are more unique than Aguero's at their respective price points.

Its a really good series I think. You wonder whether theyre all going to be saying the same thing - granted some things they do all say and do like planning ahead and not making transfers for one week etc. but they all make new points and have different views on certain things. Learn something in every episode.
