Crucial Champions League action has huge FPL implications

Tonight’s Champions League matches could have a huge impact on the Fantasy Premier League 2018/19 landscape.

Both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, whose assets have been popular this season, are in action in the European competition.

Qualification to the knockout stages is on the line, with neither club assured of their fate.

Liverpool must beat Napoli to stand any chance of progressing, and may also have to rely on results elsewhere.

If Red Star Belgrade beat PSG then a victory of any sort will suffice, but if the French side are victorious then Liverpool must either win 1-0 or by two clear goals.

A one-goal margin of victory will not be enough if Napoli score.

Meanwhile, Spurs need to match Inter Milan’s result against PSV to secure passage to the next round.

That is not something to be assured of given that Mauricio Pochettino’s men are facing Barcelona at the Camp Nou.

At this stage, either one of Liverpool or Tottenham could end up in the Europa League or be eliminated from continental competitions altogether.

Either scenario would have a big impact on Fantasy. Europa League fixtures would mean a greater concentration of Sunday matches, especially pertinent for those playing the Sky Sports game.

Furthermore, either one of those clubs being knocked out altogether would potentially heighten the appeal of their Fantasy options with fewer fixtures to fulfil in 2019.

      Wait until pressers. The next 2 fixtures are sweet! If he’s out for Wolves, then maybe you ditch. You’d want Wilson for Brighton at home but the next 2 are tough so at that stage you possibly go for Chicha

    My front 8 is doing my head in as I have to keep playing 1 or 2 of Diangana/Hojbjerg/Kamara.

      Same here. Robertson and Salah out hurt me big time. At least I got Felipe and Son who paid off. But I would have def captained salah if I kept him. Oh well... at least there’s loads of us in the same bot so we haven’t lost to much. In fact I got a tiny green arrow

    Would it be completely ridiculous to go with the BIG 3 mids (Hazard/Salah/Sterling) and ditch any premium attackers up front and play the likes of Mitro/Wilson upfront? To date the 3 mids are scoring much higher than premium attackers.

      While it's impossible to say for sure, imo it's Kola's spot to lose for now. He's been one of the driving forces in attack, creating a lot of chances and generally offering some running and creativity not always found in our attacking midfield of late. Basically, he's offering something nobody else is, including Bellerin on the other side.

      The concern will always be the defensive side of his game, but Emery seems to rate him, and in pre-season he was playing a lot right before getting injured. I'm somewhat confident he was set to start the season as first choice, even though it seems like he's only playing due to Monreal being out. Again, against weaker opposition I think Kola is favoured. All that said, we just don't know 100% whether or not Emery also really rates Monreal will and will rush him back in asap when the CDM crisis clears.

      In short, he's a rotation risk that personally I am taking next GW.
