Captains

Man City options to headline Gameweek 37 captaincy

Manchester City and Chelsea are likely to be the teams at the forefront of the Gameweek 37 captaincy debate.

Both teams have appealing home fixtures this weekend, with Leicester City coming to the Etihad Stadium and Watford visiting Stamford Bridge.

Sergio Aguero (£11.9m) has more goals at home than any other forward this season, while the Foxes have not kept a clean sheet on the road since Gameweek 21 – before Brendan Rodgers took charge from Claude Puel.

The fact that the Argentinian found the net for the first time since Gameweek 32 on Sunday afternoon, he will certainly be in the minds of our voters.

The latest captain poll is now open and users can cast their choices either embedded in the article below or in the sidebar of our website.

Raheem Sterling (£11.6m) is likely to be another go-to option, despite registering just an assist in his last three Premier League outings.

He still has a 66.9% ownership among the top 10,000 managers, just 6% shy of Aguero.

A potential differential for Gameweek 37 could be Eden Hazard (£10.9m), and it will be interesting to see how much traction his cause becomes in the next few days.

The meeting with Watford on Sunday afternoon could conceivably be the Belgian’s last in a Chelsea shirt at Stamford Bridge, which might bring the best out of him.

However, Hazard has home form to back that sentiment up, with 47 points in his last four in front of his own fans.

That averages out at 11.75 points per game in that time, while Watford are without a clean sheet on the road since Gameweek 25.

Despite scoring five times on Huddersfield at Anfield on Friday, it is possible that a trip to Newcastle might put some managers off Liverpool options for Gameweek 37.

However, the Magpies have just one clean sheet at home since Gameweek 28, and with Premier League safety now secured the stakes are not quite as high for Rafa Benitez’s side.

Sadio Mané‘s (£10.1m) goal threat has largely been limited to Anfield matches this season, but Mohamed Salah (£13.3m) has more away goals than any other midfielder this season.

Manchester United’s visit to Huddersfield could present an opportunity for some differential captains.

The Terriers have now conceded 15 goals in their last four matches, at an average of 3.75 per game.

They are the perfect opponents for the Red Devils to face as they hope to book a finishing place in the division’s top four and claim Champions League football.

Paul Pogba (£8.5m) and Romelu Lukaku (£10.7m) will probably the ones that are looked at, although Marcus Rashford (£7.3m) is sure to be considered if he is passed fit.

Meanwhile, the form player in the league is Jamie Vardy (£9.0m) with the same number of goals in eight matches under Brendan Rodgers than in the 28 before that.

Such incredible form could see him act as a differential captain once again, even if Leicester travel to face Manchester City in Gameweek 37.

Raúl Jiménez (£6.9m) might also be looked at with Fulham coming to Molineux although the Cottagers have now recorded three clean sheets in a row.

You have 2 Man City defensive assets, a home game and them needing 2 wins to secure the title. Why on earth would you have them if you plan to bench them in this scenario?

Morning wise ones. Thoughts on which you prefer from below? 2FT and 0m ITB. My gut is saying D. Cheers all.

    Lloris
    Laporte - Bertrand - Robbo
    Mane - Son - Eriksen - Jota
    Aguero(TC) - Jimenez - Gray

    (Foster) - Valery - Duffy - KDB

    A) Duffy + KDB > Shaw + Pogba
    B) Duffy + KDB > TAA + 8.7m mid
    C) KDB + Eriksen > Sterling + Milli or 7.2m max.
    D) KDB > 9.6m mid and have 2FT for last GW

A isn't that bad though, considering Shaw looked pretty active going forward against Chelsea and most of Utds play does go through Pogba, he will probably be a little more attacking against Hudd and Cardiff, IMO.

Managed to almost close the gap in a ML (from 90 points to 6), but 3rd place is just 8 points behind me.
ML leader's key differentials: Sterling, fraser, Vardy (no MU)
3rd place's key differentials: kola, laporte, pogba, Fraser, rashford, vardy (no city attackers)

    My team for gw37:
    Foster (Ryan)
    Taa Doherty Vertongen (Duffy valery)
    Son jota mane Salah(Redmond)
    Jimenez Wilson Aguero

What is the best move now? 1ft, 0.4itb

    3) mane/son->pogba

Far too risky., If you really must punt on a City player, why not just go all in and get Foden in 38 ? God chance of a run out at some point, and way more dangerous than Gundogan ?

(FWIW; I wouldn't do this either - I'd much rather get, say, Babel)

I personally don't think Mane will do a great deal in the next couple of GWs, but I'd 100% get him in under those circumstances. Sterling and Aguero give you a great chance to make ground elsewhere.

Am in a rather luxurious position of having a very decent rank (for me, anyway) and am almost completely safe for a top 1k finish. Likewise, I'm not really in a position to win the bloody thing, so I may as well take a calculated risk or two

With 1 FT ad 1.4 ITB my team is

    Loris
    Laporte / TAA / Boly / Duffy / Valery
    Salah / Mane / Eriksen / Son / JWP
    Kun / Jimi / Long

Haz (C) seems an interesting option, esp. as he sits so low in the (C) poll. Otherwise it's Kun (C) ..... zzzzzzz

Assuming he continues his rather meh form in the CL I'm thinking of ditching Eriksen, so:

    Eriksen & Duffy > Haz (C) & 3.9m fodder for a hit

A bit daft or OK in the ciurcumstances ?

(3.9'er is so this leaves enough in the bank for Jimi > Rash in 38 .....or perhaps Mitro / Wilson / Zaha if I feel a bit more punty. )

    Patricio

    VDijk Doherty TAA

    Sterling Tielemans Brooks LMoura Mane

    Aguero Jiminez

    Boroc, Valery, DLuiz, Ings

    Sitting pretty in my 4 leagues, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 1st.

I'm thinking this week change maybe Brooks or Tielemans, they are performing well but tough opposition. Then maybe upgrade goalkeeper final week. Or save as both in form then have 2FT for the final.

    Any thoughts and ideas appreciated!

I think I’d probably roll the transfer, some decent bench options there too!

Is B Silva to Sterling worth a hit?

No Sterling could be scary this week.

Aguero beating Sterling in the captain poll but what's the logic there, other than that he just scored last game?

Sterling more points over the last 2 seasons, higher PPG, higher PPG at home, etc.

Pens and also didn't he score 4 past them last season ?

One game-week memory bias, as always. I'll probably go Aguero tbh (better xG and xA over the last 4 home games). In reality it's a toss-up though.

Much bigger ownership as well, lots of people just choose who they are having as captain rather than who they think the best pick actually is.

1FT 2.1 ITB was thinking either thanks.
    1. Dunk > Laporte/Shaw
    2. Eriksen > Hazard

    Lloris - Foster
    Dunk - Robertson - Doherty - Bednarek - Valery
    BSilva - Mane - Eriksen - Son - Jota
    Jimenez - Aguero - Wilson

Those with Firmino. What are your plans?

I have a small 15 point lead. Firmino was meant to be a differential punt for GW35-38 but that hasn't worked out well so far.

Same. He’s meant to go for Rashford to enable Hazard via spurs mid. If Rashford out then no idea right now

Yeah its such a painful position. If I downgrade I want to then double transfer and upgrade the midfield.

My other forwards are Jiménez and Wilson
Mids would be Sterling/hazard/mane/son or Eriksen

My rival has Wilson upfront as opposed to my Firmino. I'm considering grabbing Wilson to cover those points (probably 2pts if I get him, 15 if I don't). But then I feel I want someone else as a differential or downgrade to up my midfield.

        Maybe even: Firmino+Hojbjerg to Long+Pogba

    GTG?

    Ederson
    Laporte - TAA - Boly
    Salah - Eriksen - Son - Jota - JWP
    Aguero - Jiménez
    (Ryan - Ings - Valery - Duffy)

2FT’s for next week. Will probably do something like Jota + Jiménez > Babel + Rashford.

Depends how he gets on this week really. I played him over Jota last week and that cost me 10pts.

    Robertson Laporte Doherty Yoshida Valery
    Sterling Mané Son Eriksen Hojbjerg
    Aguero Jimenez Wilson

    0.3 ITB, 2 FT
