The Stock Check – Monday

Dimitar Berbatov’s quality is ultimately too much for visiting QPR, as the Bulgarian’s early strikes prove decisive, despite a strong second-half showing from Harry Redknapp’s seemingly doomed side. Here’s the Stock Check on a Monday night that delivered on its promise…

On the Up

Dimitar Berbatov
A third brace of the season took Berbatov to five goals in his last four matches as the Bulgarian stuck to the script and lived up to pre-match expectations. There were instant dividends for Berbatov’s new owners, then, and with a double Gameweek to come, his stock will surely continue to rise at pace.

Mark Schwarzer
A third penalty save of the season denied QPR a point and saw the Aussie stopper return seven Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points for his owners, despite failing to keep the clean sheet. Schwarzer is top rated for form in the FPL, averaging 6.5 points per game over the last six matches.

Adel Taarabt
With Redknapp going all out for the points, Taarabt came back into the lineup to lend his creative spark and goal threat. For once, the Moroccan delivered, firing QPR back into the match with a late first half goal, before winning the spot-kick which Remy squandered. With three points essential for QPR, surely Taarabt will retain his starting role for matches to come.

Loic Remy
Brought in from the flank for the second half, the Frenchman wasted his spot kick, only to surge through and make amends with a fine finish to hand the R’s a lifeline. It’s three strikes in the last four starts for Remy who continues to look the most likely to fetch the goals that QPR so badly need over the remaining seven matches.

Going Down

The QPR Defence
While Chris Samba was culpable for Fulham’s opening two goals in a disastrous first half, it was skipper Clint Hill that made way at half-time, presumably to protect him having earned a booking and escaped a potential sending off. In Gameweek 7, under Mark Hughes, Hill was subbed at half-time at West Brom – he remained out of the side until Gameweek 13. It remains to be seen if Hill will be restored to the side for the visit of Wigan – in truth, Redknapp is likely to be more displeased with the showing from Samba.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Think the game felt like a bit of an afterthought on the GW really. Not many players from Fulham/ QPR are in teams so not much has changed from yesterday for the majority

As a Remy owner, I can't relate to that and feel like the game was a wild emotional roller-coaster 😀 But I am clearly in the minority. Why not link your team, Dave?

I have been pegged back from a 50 pts lead to all square with one rival in my mini league. Big money involved. My team is

    Fed DDG

    Azpil Davies Clyne Baines Harte

    Mata Bale Brunt Sess Siss

    RVP Studge Giroud

    .7 banked 1FT

What would you do to remedy the fallout?

Brunt and Sess are stand out candidates for replacement I.M.O.

I'd definitely be looking to bring in Walcott before DGW.

      Brunt>Maloney

Sess to Maloney. You need funds. Badly. Especially for Cazorla or Walcott the next week. Maybe even Sess + Sturridge (around 15 I think) to Maloney/Townsend + Berba (12 ish, frees 3 million for you to make Caz/Fellaini move or something)

No I'm just suggesting a 4 pt hit this week and a single transfer the next. If you do 2 this week (Sess + Studge out) you take a 4 pt but you have 3m odd in the bank for a single transfer the next week (Brunt to Caz or Fellaini depending on preference)

I wouldn't wanna spend the next 2-3 transfers on defence since you have BAINES there anyway

If money is tight then now. Can totally understand the berba-wagon but Fulham away arent the best and their next two are away then their next two home games are Chelsea and Arsenal then back on the road for Everton. I have a feeling there may be some frustrated Berb owners come GW 36

Whilst it's so dead I may as well throw my team out there for suggestions as to future transfers.

    DDG (3.9 nobody)
    Clichy Dawson Demel Wilson Pearce
    Bale Mata Santi Michu Sissoko
    RVP Suarez Anichebe

    0.0m in bank and 1FT

I'm almost certainly saving the tranny this week. So next week what would you suggest?

    I'm thinking

Mata & Michu > Wally & Afro (and would even consider an extra 4pt hit to do Dawson>Sagna/Monreal)

Would leave me with DDG, Demel, Sagna/Monreal, Walcott, Santi, Afro, RVP & Anichebe for just a 4pt hit.

Good plan? Anything you'd do differently?

mata and michu to walcott and fellaini sounds good. not sure if i would take a hit for an arsenal defender. if it was for free, i would've said yes. but for a hit and especially for taking out dawson, not sure it it's totally worth it since arsenal's defense is always a little shaky

sounds good and is similar to my plan. -4 should get me 8 too

Im assuming youd want Michu back though so does that cause any problems when your looking at the the rest of the team you want for GW 36 (as you might be forced to use an extra -4 to get him back) if not then its good to go i think

this is a little early, but i would like some opinions just so i can think about it until next gw.
so my team looks like this:

    DDG
    Rafael, Zabaleta, Mertesacker
    Cazorla, Walcott, Mata, Bale
    RVP, Berbatov, Lambert
    Bench: Rudd, Sissoko, Dawson, Davies

should i play dawson ahead of zab since he's playing utd away? or keep him in there in hopes of attacking points? also, who are you going to be captaining? i know suarez is popular for next gw, but i think i'm going to go with bale.

Very nice team actually. I'd play Dawson over Zab this week yes. I'm captaining Suarez but Bale is a great option too. It's a bit of a lottery now RVP has gone off the boil.

You've got to find a way to play Sissoko too IMO. I'd play him over Berbs actually, but I am biased aghainst Mr Berbs after he scored me a ridiculous amount of consecutive 2pters

i'm actually hoping walcott get's rested for the dgw, so sissoko comes on automatically for me. and i really don't know about zab vs dawson. i know dawson has the edge in terms of fixture, but he will almost never get me attacking pts, while zab is capable. idk, it will be a tough decision for me

I just used mine and my advice would be not to do so...

Thought I would be better off carrying two FT out of the dgw 33 but might have to use one now. Depending on your team use for 33 or 36, if you can field 8 doubles in 33 with an 8 point hit then I'd consider wcing in 36.

Ok, in my honest opinion, if you feel you need to take more than an 8 point hit, it might be worth using your WC for GW33, but if you can put out a decent DGW team for less or equal to that I think that is enough to warrant saving your WC for a better time.

You could WC and get the 'ideal' DGW33 team, but a) it doesn't always work out that the obvious options are ideal and b) you would be left with a bit of a mess to clean up afterwards if you went full throttle.

          GW36 there is another DGW

and City, Chelsea and Spurs all have a DGW to come, which may well be DGW36, by then most people won't have a wildcard, I'd say that would be an ideal time to gain some mega points.

Hello DZ. Considering my team, what would be the better move if Suarez is not suspended?
    A. Sissoko, Lampard, Harte >>Pienaar, Fellaini, Sagna
    B. Lampard, Enrique, Santon >> Baines, Fellaini, Sagna
The only problem I have with B is that it leaves me with Harte which is a pain but can ship out to Figs or Alcaraz later. Team is:

    DDG-Bunn
    Enrique-Clichy-Wilson-Harte-Santon
    Sissoko-Lampard-Bale-Walcott-Santi
    Benteke-Suarez-Benteke

I'm not going to lie, it helps when you support a less good team when playing FPL, I think it affects your choices if you say support a big club with loads of rivals. You might be unjustly biased.

Look at Granville, he's always making choices based on his principles as a man utd supporter, just doesn't work well in FPL...go with the stats and your gut, not your values.

Lots of points being thrown away selling players that should really be kept for gw33. More points to be squandered in the aftermath I suspect. I'm gonna be conservative and hope to take advantage.

Not sure about wise heads like yourself but I'm seeing so many posts of people spending 4/8/12 points good in form players with good fixtures in gws 33/34 for average dgw players. Worse still is some of the players going out at a cost have future dgw themselves and the ones coming in will need to be rushed out straight away to accommodate city/Chelsea/Tottenham/Wigan players

Totally agree with you Champ, GW33 is just one week.

It looks like there are an infinite amount of options but that is actually a problem, there are TOO many options. It's going to come down to luck if you have the right combo. But there's a lot of players that have quality fixture runs and DGWs to come after so it's not worth ripping your team apart just to get in 'whatever you can get' for GW33.

Too much emphasis on just getting in whoever you can squeeze in simply because they have a DGW, but there are quite a few that will only get 4/5 points...not every player is going to succeed. So some careful consideration to future GWs is important.

People are preoccupied with the immediate though on here at times, it's all about what's the immediate plan...but like you said, Spurs/Chelsea have a DGW coming...along with City...do you really want to sacrifice them for a complete detour into DGW33? I don't know if it's wise.

I think I got lucky by not bringing in berba!

I'm not afraid to admit it, my mathematical skills are atrocious (I regularly use a calculator for things because I'm so slow)

Somehow all weekend I miscalculated things and believed that by not captaining Bale (13) and captaining Suarez (6) I had cost myself 14 points.

But in truth, it's only 7. So now I don't feel so bad. Although if I'd got those extra 7 points I'd be tied with Acqua...now I'm 7 points behind which is just plain humiliating... 🙄

Well I'm 12 points off so you're 5 points! Did you see my post earlier? I was 131 points behind Forca at one point 😆

        Epic 😎

I was all for selling these dudes pre-GW31

But if I was in the position where I now still had them...I'd just keep. who are these people selling like mad AFTER Gw31? the time to take a punt was last week...odd

I remember the week I got knocked out by 1 stingy point, because I took a hit during a low scoring week.
