Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 25

With Gameweek 24 left firmly in our wake it’s time to reassess our Sky teams using the usual info, including the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries and the current market trends. As always, we also look ahead to the forthcoming fixtures, offering our preferred captaincy setup for Gameweek 25 and keeping one eye on Gameweek 26.

Gameweek 24 Man of the Match Awards

Here’s a match-by-match breakdown of the players that won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
Crystal Palace vs Hull CityCameron Jerome
Liverpool vs EvertonDaniel Sturridge
Man United vs CardiffAshley Young
Norwich vs NewcastleHatem Ben Arfa
Southampton vs ArsenalAdam Lallana
Swansea vs FulhamChico
Aston Villa vs West BromChristian Benteke
Chelsea vs West HamAdrian
Sunderland vs StokeMarcos Alonso
Tottenham vs Man CityDavid Silva

The awards were fairly evenly distributed this week with one goalkeeper, two defenders, four midfielders and three forwards claiming the plaudits. A couple of players have come to the fore in recent weeks, namely Ben Arfa and Benteke, who look worthy of some consideration if they can rediscover their early-season consistency. Budget-friendly goalkeeper Adrian at 3.9m could also be a savvy investment ahead of a kind run of games for West Ham. Eden Hazard is still the player to have gained the most MoTM awards with eight to his name.

Gameweek 24 Bonus Points

Five goalkeepers managed five saves or more this week – Tim Howard, Asmir Begovic, Vito Mannone, Maarten Stekelenburg and Adrian were the top shot-stoppers. Adrian churned out nine saves at Stamford Bridge, which was the highest number in the week, helping him to an impressive haul of 14 points. Mannone is now the top goalkeeper for bonus points, with 12 so far.

In defence, a total of nine players gathered bonus – six for tackles and four for passes completed. Full-back Angel Rangel was the only player to manage both –as has been highlighted in previous articles, the Swans backline continues to attract bonus points. Full-back Joel Ward and centre-back Chico still top the bonus rankings with 18 additional points.

In midfield, 17 players earned bonus points – eight for tackling and 11 for passes. Fernandinho and Gareth Barry were the two players to sweep up points for both passing and tackling, continuing the trend of holding midfielders picking up bonus – the current top three midfielders overall are Aaron Ramsey, Lucas and, the current leader with 32 additional points, Cheick Tiote.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

LovrenSouthampton5.29.04%
ColemanEverton6.58.05%
LukakuEverton8.67.84%
NegredoMan City8.67.01%
CabayeNewcastle6.66.05%

Of all the above players, only Alvaro Negredo looks likely to feature at the weekend after recovering from a shoulder problem and could be heavily transferred in again after the recent injury to Sergio Aguero.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
AgueroMan City9.89.42%
MataMan United94.65%
ShawSouthampton5.33.67%
RamseyArsenal5.83.40%
LallanaSouthampton5.93.37%

Whilst Juan Mata, Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana provided decent returns this week, those that opted for Sergio Aguero and Aaron Ramsey have been stung by recent injury setbacks and will probably be looking to transfer these players out once more depending on injury updates.

Gameweek 25 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the captaincy choices for Gameweek 25 there is an opportunity for three captains if you choose to use a tactical transfer.

Our Strategy:
Robin van Persie (Stoke Away) → Luis Suarez (West Brom Away) → Alvaro Negredo (Chelsea at Home)

For the fixtures on Saturday 1st, we can’t look beyond one of Robin van Persie or Wayne Rooney as they make their way to The Britannia. The Sky reporters often favour Rooney for MoTM awards but, as his start seems less secure at this point, van Persie gets the nod.

For the matches on Sunday 2nd, you could either use a transfer or a captain swap to move the armband to Luis Suarez who will be taking on the West Brom backline fresh from conceding four goals to Aston Villa. For this reason, we opt for him over Santi Cazorla – Arsenal have another admittedly mouth-watering fixture at home to Crystal Palace and the Spaniard looks your best bet here if you fancy going against the grain.

Finally, for Monday 3rd, captain swapping or transferring in a Man City or Chelsea player looks a smart move as both teams play again on Saturday 8th in Gameweek 26.

BBC Sport Chief Football Writer Phil McNulty
    Man City latest

on 5 live Drive: "Manuel Pellegrini hinted earlier today that there may be some business, potentially the biggest deals of the day, at Manchester City. But it appears now that price tags are prohibitive and City don't feel any urgency to sign players and they don't need to add to their squad. So I suspect business is done for the day at City."

The more i think about Aguero replacement the more i think Benteke is the answer

    1) Playing a weak everton defence
    2) Good follow up fixtures
    3) Nailed on
    4) Proven second half player
    5) No blank coming up
    6) No europeaan competition to worry about

Utd and city options have blank and tough champ league , any can be rested in easy games
Ade not great fixtures and streaky, Sturridge ok but have Suarez already

    DIFFERENTIAL OPTIONS
    - Christian BENTEKE
    - 3 goals in 3 and starred in the back end of last season
    - BUT has had a poor season
    - Wilfried BONY
    - Prolific in Holland and hogs the Swans’ points
    - BUT still hasn’t performed consistently as an FPL option
    - Frazier CAMPBELL
    - Allows a big midfield and decent value
    - BUT Cardiff are in transition under a new manager
    - Stevan JOVETIC
    - Could feature regularly for City after returning from injury
    - BUT rather unproven for minutes and points at a price of £8.8m

    My pick:
I am on a WC and will be pairing Daniel Sturridge and Emmanuel Adebayor with Mr Suarez. I think it says a lot that these were the two I struggled to find weaknesses with. Sturridge’s record this season has been excellent, whilst Adebayor has proven great value under Sherwood.

I just did Aguero --> Benteke.

He was in great form at the beginning of the season, has the fixtures in the period that Aguero is missing and won't suffer at the hands of rotation.

I think the fact he is playing regularly for a team like City outweighs any other weaknesses.

Even away to Spurs, he got so many chances and managed to take one.

His shooting at times is wild - but he gets so many chances, he ends up bagging some points. 🙂

And at his price, you can accept the rotation, which may be a struggle with Negredo.

Really struggling with this one, my take:

      - Sturridge has form, and on the back of a good performance in an important game, moral high. BUT could be second to Suarez
      - Dzeko is a proven goalscorer . BUT no one knows who will be playing up top for City, and Chelsea could shut up shot.
      - Rooney is in a team that I think is about to go goal crazy. BUT just coming back from injury, no one knows if he will even start.

Any idea? If anything I think I will go either Sturridge or Dzeko for 1 week and then pick up Rooney afterwards.

I think you've got to ignore the Suarez factor. Everyone has him, so it's a bit like no one has him. It's just a dead space. So Sturridge is a big player out of the rest - been on form all season when fit.

I like Dzeko too - at that price, you can accept a bit of rotation.

I prefer Mata for United. There are so many forward options, that paying that much for Rooney is unnecessary - at least until he hits top form again. But when he's sharing points with RVP and Mata, he's pricey.

    Best option here chaps?

    Kim & Aguero ->

    A) Mirallas & Benteke (4 points)
    B) Mirallas & Giroud (4 points)

If going with A) then I will likely keep Benteke up to the GW28 blank and do Ozil -> Yaya next week

If going with B) then I will either do i) Ozil -> Yaya, ii) Giroud -> Dzeko, iii) Ozil & Giroud -> Barkley & RVP, or iv) Ozil & Giroud -> Mata & Negredo next week

    Szczesny
    Terry, Kolarov, B Davies
    Hazard, Ozil, Silva, Puncheon

Safest/best Manchester City forward to pick, now that Aguero's out?

Trying to think logically about the City v Chelsea game in terms of team tactics, but wouldn't the team be set up similar to how it was at Stamford Bridge?

Chelsea plays with 1 up front and a 5 man midfield. Pello knew that and packed midfield at the Bridge very effectively, with Aguero a target man essentially.

Would he try to do the same at home?

then again, could argue that Dzeko Negredo up top will be a real handful for the Chelsea defenders.

Hi everyone ! Really need advice : 2 FT : Have Aguero and Chester to transfer out.

    Best replacements ?

For Aguero : Benteke or Sturridge ?

For Chester : Tomkins (or demel) or Flanagan ?

    Cheers

Going Tekkers (already have Studge though) and Chambers myself. Tomkins/Demel would be rotation risks (as is Chambers, admittedly). Flan could be good short term
