Scout Scribbles – Nasri Close to City Return

Samir Nasri could return for City this weekend. Sam Allardyce is determined not to tinker with his current defensive set-up. Juan Mata doesn’t mind swapping positions for United, Olivier Giroud admits Arsenal are starting to tire, whilst Hull’s Paul McShane is set to miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury:

Nasri Closing in on Weekend Return

Reports suggest the City midfielder could be set to hand Manuel Pellegrini a timely boost by returning to action in time for the weekend FA Cup clash against Chelsea.

The Scout Says: Stretchered off against Newcastle last month, the winger was initially expected to be sidelined for a minimum of eight weeks. Nasri’s potential return arrives at a time where the fixture list is becoming more hectic and, whilst his availability will be a boost for Pellegrini, it is likely to result in more rotation on the flanks. City have upcoming Champions League duties to contend with but also face a Capital One Cup Final on March 2 as well and – following the postponement of Wednesday’s match against Sunderland – they will also have two double Gameweeks to contend with. Ideally, then, losses to Chelsea and Barcelona in the FA Cup and in Europe respectively would be the best scenario for Fantasy owners of David Silva, thus decreasing his chances of rotation as Pellegrini also looks to hand Nasri and Jesus Navas game time out wide.

Allardyce Unwilling to Change Settled Defence

The West Ham manager has admitted that a recent run of five clean sheets in six matches makes his starting line-up a little easier to select:

“I’ve got so many lovely problems. Winston Reid is chomping at the bit on the bench but there’s nothing you can do when the team is winning. Take Joe Cole, an excellent player who did not even make the squad for the Norwich game. It’s great for me, disappointing for them, but you can’t really argue with a team that’s winning can you? And my two centre-halves are playing ever so well.”

The Scout Says: Allardyce’s words will be music to the ears of James Collins’ 4% of Fantasy owners. The Welshman’s partnership with James Tomkins has been fundamental to the Hammers resilience, and with a goal and maximum bonus accrued against Norwich on Tuesday, Collins racked up 15 points to earn himself increased investment over the last few days. Still priced at a mere 4.2 in Fantasy Premier League, he offers the cheapest route into a backline that has now registered 13 clean sheets in 26 matches – with Southampton, Hull and Stoke all on his upcoming agenda, further returns seem imminent before the schedule takes a turn for the worse.

Giroud Concedes Gunners are Tiring

After a goalless draw with United on Wednesday evening scuppered Arsenal’s chances of returning to the summit, Olivier Giroud revealed that fatigue is playing a part in his side’s recent downturn in form:

“I think we had a good reaction after the bad result against Liverpool. I think it’s a good draw to be honest even if we could have scored at the end. It was maybe just about our confidence. We did well in the first half especially but after we looked a bit tired. It’s OK, we had a good reaction on the pitch and I think that’s the most important thing even if we wanted to win this game.”

The Scout Says: Quick off the mark at the start of the season along with Daniel Sturridge, the Frenchman’s form has plummeted at a time when the Liverpool frontman is managing to outgun Luis Suarez for the Reds. Giroud has now scored in just one of his last 10 appearances at the Emirates, whilst he’s now notched just three times in the last 14 Gameweeks for Arsene Wenger’s side. With Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey both sidelined through injury, Mesut Ozil has chipped in with just a single assist in his last eight appearances – a clear sign that the schedule is taking its toiling on the north London outfit. With with an FA Cup clash against Liverpool preceding a Champions League showdown with Bayern, Wenger’s main men are offered little time for rest and recuperation before their title tilt gets back underway at home to Sunderland next weekend.

Mata Happy to be Versatile

United’s record signing confirmed he’s unconcerned over David Moyes’ recent tinkering after he was shifted onto the left flank for Wednesday evening’s draw at the Emirates.

“Throughout my career I have played on the left, on the right and just behind the striker. I don’t mind playing anywhere the manager tells me. I am happy at the club, very happy. I am enjoying my football, I am getting minutes on the pitch, I am in a very, very big club and I hope we finish the season well.”

The Scout Says: Mata has now played in three different positions in just four appearances for United after arriving from Chelsea last month. Having debuted in the role in “the hole” behind Robin van Persie, the Spaniard had been utilised twice on the right prior to the Arsenal showdown but has already produced more assists for his new club than he managed over the first few months under Jose Mourinho at the Bridge, by three to two. Whilst his arrival was initially expected to help turn around United’s chaotic season, the Red Devils have triumphed in just one of the Spaniard’s four matches – indeed, the main impact has been on the game time of Adnan Januzaj, with the youngster’s Fantasy potential at a season-low after he was omitted from the starting XI yet again at the Emirate, with Antonio Valencia’s selection on the right forcing Mata onto the opposite flank.

McShane Setback for Tigers

The versatile defender has conceded he is set to miss the remainder of the season after scans revealed he sustained substantial damage in a clash with keeper Steve Harper during Tuesday’s home loss to Southampton:

“I am out for six months with ankle ligament injury and micro fracture of the bone. I am going for an operation next Monday and I have to get myself right as quick as I can. It’s very frustrating to be honest as I was feeling very good. Now I must battle back as quickly as I can.”

The Scout Says: McShane’s absence, allied with current injuries to both James Chester and Liam Rosenior, leaves Steve Bruce with limited defensive resources. Providing the Tigers boss continues with his recent 4-4-2 formation, he may have to field Ahmed Elmohamady at right-back, with Alex Bruce’s prospects of regular game time at centre-half boosted if the treatment room fails to empty anytime soon. Bruce had started 10 out of 11 matches between Gameweek 13-23 before losing his starting berth – this week’s turn of events puts the 3.9-priced defender back in the driving seat ahead of games against Cardiff, Newcastle and West Brom in the next three.

    Multiple games

One of my favourite competitions is the Iron Man league where a few of the community compete in three competitions across the FPL, Sky and Metro games. It’s a tough gig to do all well in all three and none of us are really truly excelling across them all.

I thought it’d be a good time to find out how those of you in multiple games are doing. Anyone excelling in more than one? Anyone got a favourite game? What are the rules that appeal to you? And what advice would you give to ensuring you can do well across the Fantasy games all with their own unique systems and rules?

Me too. I can't bring myself to play TFF anymore. Hate the way you have to be at computer for literally every kick off to maximise points. FPL is much better for social life and relationships, allowing you to kick back and relax once deadline's passed.

I think FPL and managing opponents in the various cups is enough, and, of course, a bit midweek time for the FUCL as I´m doing better than previous seasons.

The only other game I've ever played was the Telegraph fantasy football about 4 seasons ago, it was awful. 20 transfers all season, I had a dead team by Jan! I then moved to FPL and wouldn't look elsewhere.

I've got two Sky teams with a rank of 1,722 in one of them, 1,586 in my one and only FPL team and have two Metro teams, the highest rank of which is 591. Its tough juggling them all and I can see me dropping off alot in Metro and Sky in partic.

I think in Sky you have to have more than one team as there are limited transfers. I've only got five left for the whole season in one of them, so that team is going to be dead to me after that. My other is doing less well but I'm holding back my transfers. I'm not a fan of the limited transfers in Sky, but the pot of gold at the end really makes it a good competition.

Metro allows for lots of teams but on reflection I'm sticking with just one next season and be done with it.

The key to doing ok in all is to make sure you realise that different players do well in each. DM are great in Metro and Sky - rubbish in FPL for example. Also Rooney is great in Metro as his midfield work is rewarded, whereas in FPL he's not scoring and therefore not great at the moment.

Nowhere near as many as FPL. Anyone know, I'd be keen to find out...its hard to see on both Metro and Sky's sites in the same way you can see in FPL.

FPL is by far and away my most important one. Currently ranked 1,350th and run my own £700 mini-league with 35 players.

I am also in a work league of 19 run on the Telegraph FFL. Currently ranked inside the top 1,500 (not as good a rank as FPL as much less players I believe), but I only have 1 of my 30 transfers left. Luckily I am happy with my current team.

Finally I regularly play PlayON, playing lots of H2Hs and multiplayer games. Made over £200 this season. A very good alternative to FPL.

Religiously play FPL and keep a Sky team ticking over. Not bothered with CL/Europa teams this season and haven't touched my championship one since before the season started.

Will definitely do a world cup one in the summer.

Morning chaps - hoping for some advice on my team

Im hovering around 19k, 2FT and 2.8 in the bank, with this shower:

    Marshall (manone)

    Coleman Cahill Koscielney (Ward Bruce)

    Yaya Hazard Mata Erikson (Puncheon)

    Suarez Sturridge Dzeko

Only really want to use 1FT and save the other for the DGW. I'm thinking a simple Dzeko > Ade (after the cup games) as Dzeko has a blank the week after next and he is jst too frustrating for me. Plus ML rivals have ade and i'm 40pts ahead so nice to cover them.

Sound sensible? Any other thoughts? Erikson could also go (but probs next gw).

    Cheers

      Firstly, lovely team!

I think that you should keep Dzeko this week as stoke are awful away from home, Norwich are stubborn at home and I can't see Adebayor outscoring him.

Eriksen might be an issue as his points aren't that amazing with full pitch time so if that starts to wain then I think his points will be meager at best. Better options out there in this bracket: Llana, Nolan, Mirallas, Sterling.

Thanks Mike, definitely somthing to think about. Ade can only rise .1 more so I will take my time. Pellegrini usually gives some hints as to who will play.

Yes, Erikson is a concern. Mirallas looks good, especially if their double v palace is re-scheduled any time soon.

Morning lads. According to Wales online Ole is looking to do 9 changes from the team v Villa.
Kevin McNaughton, Mark Hudson, Juan Cala and Fabio are all expected to play at the back against Wigan in the FA Cup. Peter Whittingham and Kim Bo-kyung are also likely to play with Wolff and Daehli is fighting for a starting role v Gunnarsson and Cowie. Caulker, Medel and Zaha will most likely be rested while Mutch is still injured.

    Repost. Morning, gents!

Did van Persie to Sturridge last night and now I have no idea how to make use of the £3.6 I'm left with. Any ideas would be much appreciated:

    Adrian, Mannone
    Azpi, Cahill, Collins, Chambers, Brown
    Hazard, Yaya, Lallana, Mirallas, Noone
    Suarez, Sturridge, Adebayor

    Is it really worth doing:

    A) Cahill/Azpi to Ivanovic
    B) Chambers to Fonte
    C) Anything else?
    D) Save and wait for Aguero

Thanks in advance and have a happy weekend! 😀

Hahaha, laughed out loud with the last sentence. Totally agree. Got to give ourselves a break sometimes -- and the FA Cup heads up was a masterstroke, by the way. We never know if someone's getting injured, so saving the extra FT for later will be handy. Cheers for that, HVT, and I'll see you down the pub tonight! 😀

So, if Chelsea and Man CIty draw in the FA cup, which is a fairly likely outcome, when will the replay be played. It can't happen tues/wed as would usually happen due to champions league commitments. So, it would probably happen GW29 and both sides would have a blank gameweek. Or could it possibly be played monday 24th, giving City and Chelsea double game weeks???

"Ideally, then, losses to Chelsea and Barcelona in the FA Cup and in Europe respectively would be the best scenario for Fantasy owners of David Silva, thus decreasing his chances of rotation as Pellegrini also looks to hand Nasri and Jesus Navas game time out wide."

I bought dzeko sometime between gw24 & gw25 he was 6.9 in gw24 and 7.2 in gw25. My selling price now is 7.1m. Can anyone figure out if his 1st price drop will effect me?

'The match of the FA Cup does not come at the best time, but we will take the field with ambition to win. I have no doubt of it. We are in a very difficult time of the season and we have to stay in the race in the Premier League and not lose concentration in the playoffs two games'

David Silva regarding the Chelsea match, with the Barcelona one in mind.

You consider Stoke at home as a tough game?
I can't imagine what is an "easy" game for you in that case..

Opposed to Ade that has Norwich away.. You see that as easier fixture?

I would argue yes. stoke have found some form winning one and drawing 2 in their last 3 games and City haven't scored in a couple. I think stoke are a tricky team for them to play at the moment. Where-as I see Tottenham beating a Norwich team who hadn't won in 5 games. I dropped dzeko...expecially with the blank coming up.

Bentaleb nailed on? Looks a good prospect at 4.5 and only 0.2% ownership

Depending on whether Spurs play in GW29, might bring him in to replace Gnabry
