The Weekend Team News

Allan McGregor is expected for the season with kidney damage. Tim Krul is ruled out for Newcastle’s trip to Southampton. Nathaniel Clyne is sidelined for the Saints. Palace have problems up front ahead of a home clash with Chelsea. David Silva is reportedly a doubt for City’s trip to Arsenal, whilst West Brom’s injury worries ease ahead of a home game against Cardiff:

Hull’s Allan McGregor is likely to be sidelined for the season with kidney damage sustained in Wednesday loss at West Ham. The keeper is currently suspended for two games after being dismissed in the 2-1 defeat but may have played his last match of the current campaign, with Steve Bruce admitting “he’s in a bad way”. The Scot will remain in a Hugh Dependency Unit for another couple of days and should leave hospital in a week’s time.

Arsene Wenger has revealed Aaron Ramsey is expected to return to first-team training next week. Jack Wilshere “needs more time”, though, while Nacho Monreal is expected back in training in the next few days as he steps up his recovery from an ankle injury.

Tim Krul is out “for the next two or three games” with a knee injury, according to Alan Pardew. Newcastle could welcome back Davide Santon, who has returned to training after recovering from illness, whilst Loic Remy is expected back in training on Monday and could be ready for the Gameweek 33 clash with Man United. Alan Pardew is considering handing a start to Hatem Ben Arfa, while Sammy Ameobi remains sidelined for the Magpies.

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed Nathaniel Clyne is ruled out of Southampton’s clash against Newcastle with the groin problem that forced him off at Spurs last Sunday. The Saints boss has doubts over Jay Rodriguez, Steven Davis, Morgan Schneiderlin and Victor Wanyama, whilst Kelvin Davis and Maya Yoshida are definitely out – the latter may not feature for the club until next season after sustaining knee ligament damage in training.

In his early Friday morning press conference, Roberto Martinez revealed Phil Jagielka “is now fully fit” ahead of the trip to Fulham.

Tony Pulis remains without Dwight Gayle and Marouane Chamakh for the visit of Chelsea, though the Moroccan is expected to return in time for next week’s crucial clash with Cardiff.

Reports in the Guardian suggest David Silva could be a doubt for City’s trip to Arsenal this weekend. The paper suggests the Spaniard picked up an ankle injury in Tuesday’s win over United and has been receiving treatment over the last couple of days – we’ll be eagerly awaiting Manuel Pellegrini’s lunchtime press conference for an update.

Villa boss Paul Lambert has revealed Andreas Weimann has recovered from the leg problem that forced him off during Villa’s home loss to Stoke last Sunday. Karim El Ahmadi remains doubtful with a thigh problem for the trip to Old Trafford.

Pepe Mel has been handed a boost at the back ahead of West Brom’s vital match with Cardiff. Gareth McAuley has been passed fit after limping out of last week’s loss to Hull and Diego Lugano has made a rapid recovery from a knee problem. Morgan Amalfitano is also available, though Victor Anichebe requires a fitness test on a hamstring problem and Chris Brunt, Claudio Yacob and Billy Jones all remain sidelined for the Baggies.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

Whether to get Haz back or not is eating me. It's not going to improve rank but that's not really important to me anymore. If I get him it's just too cover the other 2 challengers in the money league but do I need to do that just yet?

You have to blame the popularity of the site for that stuff man. We've all gorged and shared it's bounty, that's led to over exploition of the game/website and the increase in realted websites. Now everyone suffers because the amount of similar data and player picks articles available. It's the Easter Island of FPL.

Get him. Not because you want to cover the challengers, but because he is a superb option with those fixtures and the way he's been playing this season.

Cheap ways into the Everton backline

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

An Everton defender looks key for Gameweek 34. But with Coleman and Baines looking pretty pricey, albeit the standout options, I thought I’d have a quick look at Distin and Jagielka as cheap options in to cover off any clean sheets over that period.

    Jagielka 5.8m
    4.1 ppg
    19 bonus
    1 assist
    13.3% ownership

    Distin 5.3m
    3.4 ppg
    6 bonus
    0 assist
    6.5% ownership

While more expensive Jagielka clearly has the edge in terms of bonus points, that comes at a .5 extra cost.

Coleman offers goals, Baines offers the chance of a penalty and both offer bonus…they are the clear winners. But if I was a little short of funds I’d go Jagielka. If I was looking to double up Distin would probably do me fine.

Both look like reasonable options for those looking to cover Coleman owning rivals or exploit Everton’s double gameweek further.

I've doubled on Coleman and Baines, but if I was looking for a cheaper alternative, I'd probably go for Jags over Distin. He's a bap magnet like you say.

I cant imagine anyone seriously playing the game not having Baines or Coleman. I consider doubling up asking for trouble. Having said that, Id plump for Jags.

Trebling up is also known as 'doing a Tosey'...its his trademark move. He did it with the Liverpool defence a couple of seasons ago...basically got him 20 pts more than his rivals on a weekly basis. It is a great move. If Hazard got injured I'd be tempted by triple Chelsea - probably involving Cech.

Baines is too hyped up from last season for my liking, he's not nearly as attacking. Though I'd prefer Coleman to my Distin it allows a midfield of Yaya Gerrard Lallana and Hazard.

I think doubling on Chelsea backline is safer than doubling on Everton's for the rest of the season. Had Coleman from start. I think Cahill got another goal in him and I'm surprised Azpi hasn't registered a goal or assist in league play yet. Think that'll come. Azpi & Cahill over Coleman & Baines, save 2.4 mil to use elsewhere is better money spent imo. Tho one Everton defender in for sure.

Doubling up on Eve is not a great idea.
After the DGWs you surely need to think twice and dump one as fixtures are a bit tight on them.
I'd rather get a City defender partnering Coleman.

    RE: The Scoutcast.

I know you said that you want to play the game your way, but concerning Yaya, you’ve always had a thing against him – been like that for seasons now and now that he’s proven himself to be a legit midfield force, I feel that you’re just being stubborn now.

Get him in, enjoy the points and you’ll have less to be miffed about. 🙂

31 points in GW31 who saw that coming? Captained I think that May have been the biggest point haul for a gameweek in FPL history. 62... I remember captaining Lampard many years ago and he hit 4 in and doing 26. Captain Berbatov when he went 5, think he had an assist in there as well so might been 28. Can't remember anyone hitting 30's before.

    Boruc (McGregor)
    Chambers Coleman Azpilicueta (MOlsson) (Ward)
    Yaya AJ Nolan Hazard (Mutch)
    Suarez Studge Lukaku

    5.0 ITB 1FT

I was considering shipping Nolan to either Eriksen, Barkley or Lallana and keeping AJ for the DGW, however I now need to get rid of McGregor too. Shall I save this week or ship Nolan?

    Oh, there's a new post.

    Lads, quick one;

    a) Play Nolan and save one FT (get Lallana next week)
    b) Use the transfer to get Lallana in today.

True HVT, but no Chicken dance in two home games, that's disturbing.
I'll probably do the most boring transfer of the season, Molsson -> Dann for the DGW.

Certainly has provoked a huge reaction.

Mark and Evs have great FPL history and both went without him.

I picked Nasri instead so how many points did I actually lose? 10?

Its not, he is an underperformer in FPL, he still returns assists and the odd goal but he's one of the best players in the league, he should be up there with Hazard returns.

Forever assisting the assister and gets no FPL recognition for it in the ways of points.

Unfortunately unless you are fortunate enough to pick and choose when his next injury will strike, the value of that PPG is greatly reduced.

I know, but if feel there's always one around the corner. Same with Aguero. It does impact the value of his PPG.

Last time I owned him, he went a picked up his 5th booking. I decided to go with Nasri instead for the DGW.

Yeah, I suppose it does somewhat. Similar with Sturridge at times. I think he's just the sort of player you have to stick in your team and just leave him there.

He did well at the start of the season but since Christmas he has 1 goal and 5 assists, for comparison's sake, Huddlestone has 2 goals and 4 assists in the same period.

In real life, Silva is a MUCH better player than Huddlestone, yet they have acquired similar stats FPL wise since Christmas..

I'm not saying Silva is a bad option or a bad performer, I'm saying he's an underperformer as he should be returning better than that.

54 points in 11 games in that period. That's still decent. From what people say you'd think he was the plague or something. He's no Yaya but he's easily a premium mid.

Agree, he's a premium mid, and if he started every game and played every minute he might be up there with the best, but I still think he's an under-performer and flatters to deceive.

I am not captaining Suarez this week, I am either very brave or very stupid (or a mixture of the two). My 3 main options are:

Who is the best option out of these? And can any of them outscore Suarez?

Any of them can outscore Suarez of course..
Who's most likely to be best choice? Suarez
Who's most likely to get such a huge score that not captaining him could be disastrous? Suarez

I guess they all can. My gut feeling said (c) Hazard, not sure if I have the balls to do it, people are pretty darn sure Suarez against a dodgy Spurs is crazy to overlook.

Hmm doubting Evra now! Should I get Terry in? Pretty good fixtures but no double...current team:

    Mannone (Marshall)
    EVRA, Cahill, Coleman (Demel, Ward)
    SILVA, Hazard, Toure, Gerrard (Noone)
    Suarez, Lukaku, Sturridge

    Cheers!

Silva would be the first player I would look to lose if he is out for a few weeks.

Well then the decision would be easy, but we don't know if he's ready for this weekend, out for one game or out for a few weeks

    a) Caulker

    b) Azpuellta

    c) Distin? but i will have to shift mirallas also (fear his game time for DGW) as i already have lukaku baines

Definitely not. You are swapping one rotation risk for another and paying for it using a hit. If Silva is out concentrate on him.

Am not selling silva before a dgw. Only thinking barkley to replace sterling because of his double and id also bank some money. Surely on his very recent form barkley won't be dropped?

Yes of course. Man U suck ballz again and there's a blank coming up.

Question is, do you ship for a hit? (which is my dilemma)

I reckon Moyes will have one eye on Münich so there's a good chance Januzaj will start.

    1) Would you start him in my shoes instead of Nolan?

    Mannone
    Evra-Coleman-M Olsson
    Silva-Yaya-Hazard-Nolan
    Suarez-Sturridge-Lukaku

    Subs: Davis, Januzaj, Collins, John

Silva, Evra and Collins are all doubtful to start.

    2) Would you make any transfers? I think I'd like to save the transfer...

      1) Definitely not.

      2) Probably Evra to either a Chelsea defender or a City defender would be a good transfer.

    Hi guys,

    Mannone (Marshall)
    Coleman, Cahill, *Shaw*, *Evra*, (Bassong)
    Hazard, Yaya, Gerard, *Nolan* (Sissoko)
    Lukaku, Suarez, Sturidge

    1FT

Pls help me choosing 2 of 3 (Shaw, Evra, Nolan):
    A - Shaw & Evra
    B - Shaw & Nolan
    C - Evra & Nolan
    (D - use ft?)

    Tks
