Rooney’s Extended Layoff Boosts The Hernandez Option

Alex Ferguson has brought us the first dose of significant injury news of the day, suggesting that Wayne Rooney’s ankle injury will keep him sidelined for longer than the expected three week period.

The United boss revealed in today’s press conference that the striker was now likely to miss the derby clash with City on November 10. He offered a pretty vague prognosis, stating that Rooney is simply “injured and resting” ahead of the weekend meeting with Spurs but made it clear that he “could” be missing for a longer period than the intial three-week assessment. When asked on the three week absence Ferguson replied “I think it may be longer.”

This latest information is of course of interest as it boosts the Fantasy potential of Javier Hernandez. The Mexican looks nailed on for starts in Rooney’s absence given his current form and would now seem set to earn starts against Spurs, Wolves and City and possibly Aston Villa three days later. A run of four Gameweeks would certainly increase his appeal as a mid-price option up front given that he can be recruited for just 7.0 in the Fantasy Premier League Game.

With many Fantasy Managers facing up to shifting the injured Carlos Tevez from their squads, it seems that Hernandez suddenly offers improved prospects as a cheap alternative.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Cant afford Chamakh without taking an 8 pointer or getting someone crap instead of Nasri, I do already have Fabregas so maybe that wouldn't be an awful decision but Nasri appears to be due a price rise whereas Chamakh just had one. Not normally overly arsed about price changes but it is fundamental in getting Tevez back

Yeah, both have tough enough fixtures this GW but improving fixtures later. I'm actually a little tempted by Yakubu despite my earlier comments, he HAS to start scoring sometime he isn't Jason Lee! However Elmander is probably a bit of a safer bet, I jsut really fancy Everton to thump Stoke silly.

The Yak used to be fantasy gold. Would love him to come back into form.

Fair enough - taking an 8 pointer would be a bit much for Chamakh, he is capable of delivering 1 or 2 point returns after all!

Problem is I brought N'Zog in two weeks ago (chasing points of all things) and looked at his fixtures and thought yes they are good. Last week I benched barton, he got an assist and it cost me the cup match, still teh right choice, but it has made me think......

barton is on the bench at the moment, but that will prob change 3 or 4 times throughout today

I think wigan will get a goal or two personally, fancy it to be an open game. And if wigan score zog is likely to be involved followed by the standard bonus haul.
Newcastle should get a couple but Barton is far from their main attacking outlet so the points could easily pass him by with the likes of Carroll and Nolan more likely to benefit.
Could go either way though, just my 2 cents.

no point really imo, Foster will start all games for birmingham unless he gets injured and I've never spent much on keepers. If anything I'd sell him for one priced at 3.9. Last season I kept a strong XI (mainly midfield as they are the best value for points) and had the cheapest possible subs and it worked pretty well, plus it reduces the headache for picking who should start each week.

Even so if I had to choose between:

FPL champion & Pompey going down to league 1
                &
1,000,000th place & Pompey getting promoted to the Prem.

really, ok, so for someone who obviously is a Pompey fan as you calls yourself pompeyfan, I'm suprised by that. But maybe not as to win FPL is a great personal acheivement where as a pompey promotion is not your personal achievement, so ok, but what about a top 1000 finish?

I did have tevez and nasari but with tevez's injury i have changed to Berba and Fabs.

    Foster (Krul)

    COleman, Elmo, Konchesky (Jara Simpson)

    Fabregas, Malouda, Nani, VdV (Ferguson)

    Berbatov, Drogba(C), Carroll

I can't decide how to setup my defense this week.
As far as I see it, it's a choice between Jagielka and Mummy. Jagielka has a great chance of keeping a clean sheet plus he has had some BP the last weeks. Then again 2 EVE defenders could hurt me if Everton fails.
Mummy is OOP and a BP magnet. Is he due for a goal soon?

As a Newcastle fan, I'm having trouble to be neutral about the NEW-SUN game. In my mind (or heart), Newcastle will win 3-0 😀 Therefor I placed mummy on the bench. Wrong decision? Any advise is appreciated.

    My team:

    Krul
    Bos Boa Coleman Jagielka
    VdV Fabs(c) Nani
    Drogs Carroll Anelka

TOONARMY TOONARMY TOONARMY TOONARMY TOONARMY TOONARMY TOONARMY I really fancy a big win for Everton, Stoke have a virus running through the squad and some of their key players (part. Jones) are serious doubts. Team looks good, not sure on Anelka's prospects though

I think Anelka will start, as he has been good for Chelsea lately, but not in terms of FPL points though. Hoping that will turn this weekend as he is kind of a diff. But I'm planning on selling him next GW.

Foster and Fabianski do not rotate very well. You need to establish a policy, then sort out your goalkeepers.
          Here are a few:
          Al-Habsi & Gilks - cheap
Foster & Jaskelainen - mid, with some prospect of saves
Hart & Robinson - dear, but plenty of saves

Should I take a 4 point hit and do:

    Tevez > Elmander
    Arteta > Fabregash

I already have Nasri. Or should I just stick with Nasri??? Totally stuck here help!!

I think with Tevez out and Arteta unsure of being fit that you will more than recover the 4 points with Elm and Fabs - particularly if Fabs is captained.
(of course, I've just hexed him now by typing that)

    1) Chamakh and Nasri

      2) imo

Chamakh is on borrowed time, Bendtner is back in the frame now and RVP is starting training next week.

I really think Nasri will be hindered by Fab long-term (I know he had a good game last week but a ton of his points came from penatlies, whilst Fabregash was away)

Yes...I am not jumping on the Hernandez bandwagon....I am sticking with Berbs all season now, as he is ahead of Hern. when Rooney does eventually get back.

I cannot help thinking SAF will rotate Hern. a bit with Mechada, and Owen when he is back....whereas we know Berbs is always "nailed on" to start (except when occasionally rested due to Champs League)

Spurs will make it tough for united if they play a 4-5-1 and united play a 4-4-2, could see spurs bossing a lot of the game, not saying they will win but it won't be a hammering by any means IMO.

I thought that was the obvious 11 but a few comments about Nzog has made me think, I guess its between Nzog VDV and Elmander, I do fancy Spurs to score and VDV is there main man at the moment, I know Elmander hasnt scored a home goal but we are gash at the back and that goal will come, but Nzog is Wigans main man, Fulham haven't been water tight and Nzog is a bonus whore, is that the right 11 still?!!!

I think you have got it right (but its close). Fulham are pretty good at home so I doubt it will be a high scoring game even if Wigan win.

I think of the three you have to go with VDV / Elmandder. Spurs will attack Man United and everything goes through VDV (inc penalties, not that anyone other than the home side gets one at OT)

Long term thoughts on Bale and Malouda??

Espec Mal given Fabs' return; time to cash in? But with his price hike, there'll be no getting him back. Going to keep Bale for now given last nights price drop. Think he could score well this GW too; who's going to stop him down ManU's RHS!?!?

I think Malouda will continue to score plenty all season and Bale will start getting the points his performances deserve. Having said that I just swapped Bale to Fab and I plan to do Malouda to VDV next. I reckon I can maybe squeeze a few more points out of my team without them in but I'm sure they both will punish me some gw's.
