Injuries

Rooney’s Extended Layoff Boosts The Hernandez Option

Alex Ferguson has brought us the first dose of significant injury news of the day, suggesting that Wayne Rooney’s ankle injury will keep him sidelined for longer than the expected three week period.

The United boss revealed in today’s press conference that the striker was now likely to miss the derby clash with City on November 10. He offered a pretty vague prognosis, stating that Rooney is simply “injured and resting” ahead of the weekend meeting with Spurs but made it clear that he “could” be missing for a longer period than the intial three-week assessment. When asked on the three week absence Ferguson replied “I think it may be longer.”

This latest information is of course of interest as it boosts the Fantasy potential of Javier Hernandez. The Mexican looks nailed on for starts in Rooney’s absence given his current form and would now seem set to earn starts against Spurs, Wolves and City and possibly Aston Villa three days later. A run of four Gameweeks would certainly increase his appeal as a mid-price option up front given that he can be recruited for just 7.0 in the Fantasy Premier League Game.

With many Fantasy Managers facing up to shifting the injured Carlos Tevez from their squads, it seems that Hernandez suddenly offers improved prospects as a cheap alternative.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Your wrong Stef. Did not trsfr him and it never crossed my mind. Only paid 10.4m for him and i can't afford a trsfr to be "wasted" on getting him back for gw 12-13 when the 3 gameweeks happen within 7 days.

There will be more pressing issues, that require transfers.

I don't care if he is back, he is gone for Chamakh...

          Chamakh - WHM, NEW, wol
Tevez - No Game, wba, MUN

          No brainer.

            Could it not feasibly be....

Chamakh - WHM, Bench, 60 mins...

Tevez - No Game, wba 60+, MUN 90....

Not quite so simple? - plus for 1 game absence, i still would have £10.00 on Tevez scoring more points in that 3 game period.....let alone worrying about trying to get Chamakh out of your side in a few weeks time when RVP is back or Bendy has nicked some game-time...

Chamakh is in a REALLY hard spot to pick up any bonus, where as CT is a bonus darling.....really do think that IF CT is back for WBA that the transfer is a waste...

      Drogba and Fabregas?
Just kidding, but I hope you have looked at the possibility of downgrading two or three others to make that happen, as my guess is that those two will get the most FPL points from now on in.
Otherwise I think Nasri will probably be in and out of the team, he didn't just suddenly become one of PL's best players, he's just had a good run. Berbatov scores a goal every third match (look at his stats at Tottenham and Man Utd) and I generally think Man Utd-strikers will be a gamble when Rooney get's back. If Hernandez keeps scoring every now and then, you could see a rotation between him, Rooney and Berbatov, at least for a month or two.
So if you can't do Fab and Drogs, I'd look into VDV/Bale and Drogs.

bought malouda at 9.5 so getting rid seems crazy. dont wanna take a hit unnessarily though so can easily do
A)Malouda to Fabs and swap berbs for Tevez when he's back
    Or
B)Barton to Fabs Berbs to 4.7 striker(varney/Campbell).. 4 point hit.
can upgrade to Odemwengie when he's back

The house was on fire. A woman appeared at an upstairs Window. she was clutching a baby and screaming, "my baby! my baby! save my baby!" "throw the baby to me!" shouted Paul Robinson. "I'll catch him" "You might drop him."Shouted the woman. "I'm a professional footballer." Shouted the man. "I'm a goalkeeper. I'm very good at catching, The baby will be safe with me." The woman threw down the baby to the young man (a gust of wind caught the baby) Robinson dived to his left putting all his professional expertise into operation, and he expertly caught the baby (a crowd had formed, THEY WENT WILD!) Then, inexplicably, Robbo bounced the baby twice and booted it over the garden wall.

Anyone else notice the Walcott price rise last night? Where did that come from - I don't recall seeing him high in the rises chart, or was that just my oversight?

Haven't really seen much discussion on Walcott, but surely it is quite a risky purchase made by a lot of people there. Is he really likely to start ahaead of Nasri?

I was finding that strange myself. I'm guessing Walcott will be a super-sub. Comes in at 60 min for Arshavin (or maybe Nasri). It actually annoys me that he rose this early, people only remember Walcott from the beginning of the season when he was playing regularly and putting goals. But then Nasri was injured.

12.45 press conference, he may or may not be nice we shall see.

People who have bought Bosingwa may waiting nervously. I have a feeling he'll be on the bench against Blackburn, Ivanovic would be a better shout defensively against Samba, Nelsen (if fit) etc.

Do that next week. Or the week after. Arsenal have an excellent run of games, Chamakh is bound to pick up points, just from standing in front of the opposition's goal.

Or actually, when Arsenal's run of good games is over, Rooney's back and no ManUtd striker is a safe bet. Keep Chamakh for four games or so, then swap him. Maybe for Dembele, allowing you to upgrade your midfield?

Tommy, I am not sure that it is that 'big' news - he says he needs rest. OK? But not that he is definatley out for a selected period of time etc....still think Hernandez is a punt too far for me, maybe 2 or 3 games max then back to second fiddle. Just my opinion but I can see a derailed bandwagon not far down the road....

I wish I was as confident- I'm still not sure that if chico keeps on banging them in that he won't start ahead of berbatov...

Anyway, at least berbatov should get some assists/BP's if united beat tottenham, he generally scores well at home...

Who is the best striker under £5.7m? I already have Carroll, but was thinking of going:

    Tevez + Barton --> Fabregas + £5.7m striker

Will Odemwingie be fit? Or is Dembele/Zigic a better option?
Or should I swap Adam out and have £6.4m for a striker?

More like keep Adam this season 🙂

Depending on when you bought him there's not really any other midfielder that offers better value. Nzogbia perhaps.

      Could be.

I'd try getting a midfielder or two. Don't go overboard or anything though.

p.s. I always play with a forward, sometimes two, but maybe that's just me.

Even with Fabs? And instead of who? VDV? Malouda?
Fabs will takeover set piece duties and the central role.
VDV is on all set pieces and the majority of Spurs play goes through him.
Malouda is a possibility but he is still the top Points Scorer with decent fixtures
Nani has form and no challenger for position
        Adam cant afford.

Play safe RBJ. Drogba didn't score last week, he will be mad to score, bad idea if you ask me, I think Newcastle match could be low scoring until 70th minute when Dazzler Bent knocks in a goal, and it to be equalised by a Kevin Nolan pen on 83minutes, 1-1
