The Numbers Game – Something From The Weekend

Gameweek 23 may well be behind us but there’s still evidence to sift that could well unlock some vital nuggets ahead of a bout of double fixtures. In this latest Numbers Game article for Members, we give the Gameweek OPTA stats a rinse to pick out some of the top performers who may have escaped the spotlight…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Do you think dalgleish is more likely to drop johnson altogether in favour of a natural left back? Or do you think if he does bring in aurelio/konchesky he'll drop kelly and put johnson back on the right?

its all guess work at this stage.

I would imagine Johnson will revert to RB depsite him having the defensive skills of a conference defender or even worse a scottish one!

Gah, gotta bench one of VDV, Adam, Zog , Fabs, VanP, Tevez, Berb, Nani

I'm leaning VDV as he's away and not a DGW.

    Agree?

This is so annoying i need to replace konchesky. Its between coleman and kelly. Coleman has the best next fixture. Kelly has the best next three fixtures. I think now that west ham have backed grant everton may not walk all over them as everyone including me has been expecting.

I had my heart set on kelly but then colemans west ham fixture caught my eye. Its a really tough decision. Thanks for the advice. Oh and yeah the replies thing is failing quite a bit today isnt...

berbatov has gone a bit quiet lately (1,2,2) but those 3 games were either away from home or without rooney. the normal formula for berbatov this season =rooney + home game = silly points
how about him as captain over the more common nani choice?

Tempted by Berba (c) - here's my 2 cents (posted it before but seems relevant):

Berba played in all the games over Xmas / New Year (4 games in 10 days). I think SAF should play a full-strength team against both Brum and Blackpool – bank the points now, because he will probably want to rotate around the CL games.

Whether he will do that is another matter – I think Chico will start one of the 2 games, whether for Rooney or Berba it’s hard to say.

Yep, if I could afford Rooney I'd probably get him. I can see us playing Chico, Smalling, maybe even Gibson home to Brum, then a full strength team away to Blackpool.

      Skrtel OUT Vidic/Evra IN
Rooney OUT Berbatov OR RVP IN

don't fancy Liverpool defence for points, I do fancy United for at least 1 clean sheet, and if not, BP's. Also, if I was on WC I wouldn't be going with Rooney (I have him in my team but am only sticking because of the DGW), think Berbatov could score more, but would prefer RVP over both to be honest.

Also not a big fan of bringing in Stockdale only to have to replace to him in 2-3 weeks when Schwarzer is back.

    • 13 Years

Afternoon, sorry for a rate my team but I'd like any opinions or advice out there...

    Foster / Bergovic
    Coleman / Djorou / Evra / Murphy / Foley
    Fabregas / Nani / VdV / Adam / Dempsey
    Van Persie / Tevez / Taylor-Fletcher

Gives me a good team for weeks 24 and 25 (5 double gameweek players seems enough for me).

In week 26 I can upgrade Dempsey to Tim Cahill by downgrading Adam to Ferguson or Evra to Rafael... won't want another Birmingham player if Arsenal, Spurs and Birmingham are all missing week 28 so will wait and see on that one.

Gives a solid team for week 26 (Foley, Murphy and T-F on bench) and if Everton have a double then a potenital 11 double gameweek players for week 27 (but will play Tevez/Nani over the likes of Foley etc).

Gives me 2 transfers for week 28... I'm planning on Djorou who may well not be in the team then to someone like Distin. Then, even if Spurs, Arsenal and Birmingham are all missing I can still field a team of 10.

Foley and Taylor-Fletcher aren't great but I need to save some money here and there to finance Cahill and leave cash for week 28 and the inevitable screw ups that mess up my plans! Also Wolves are at home (albeit to Blackpool) in week 28, which is when I'll need cover from my 5th defender.

I'm happy with how its working out but any advice on how I can tweak it appreciated.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long a post, you will get far more people responding to a RMT if you cut it down.

Great team bar Foley (don't trust Wolves), would prefer Campbell over Taylor-Fletcher (if you are on WC?).

      Other than that, perfect.

I don't trust Walcott to start... I've gone for Dempsey.

I'm on a wildcard too and I've tried to leave money in to bring Cahill from week 26 as Everton have great fixtures (downgrading Torres to Van Persie after two gameweeks would give you some extra cash for the trade perhaps)... downgrading Vidic to Evra (or to Rafael in a week or 2) would also give you cash if you need it... maybe just have the change to Rafael as a potential one for the future if you ever need the cash.

My rival may be in quite some considerable trouble with his team. He's 180 points behind, he only has (1) DGW player at the moment to my (7) and he has both Darren Bent and Pienaar.

No idea if he's going to plan on getting rid of them both because of their transfer moves. Along with making 6 transfers to match my team when the DGW occurs.

    This will be interesting. 🙂

    - Hart, Kingson
    - Kelly, Hutton, Ferdinand, Djourou, Baines/Coleman
    - Ban der Vaart, Nani, Thomas, Adam, Fabregas/Nasri
    - Rooney, Torres/Campbell, van Persie

Would any of you care to help with the decision on the bold-marked players for me?

Bin Torres. Put it this way, imagine starting the GW with Torres in your team. How confident do you feel that he will score you points? I would be thinking, oh god -he's gonna do zilch again!

how essential is having berbs or ronney for the dgw. currently have dj, rvp and tevez. donbt really want to drop any of them..

if i had to id drop lamps to someone dirt cheap and do dj>rooney...but then id be losing a dgw player...might just cap nani and be done with it. also may just do rafael>oshea instead..

Same strike force that I've got (WC team) thinking also of upgrading rvp to Rooney, based purely on the dgw and visions of a Rooney monster points haul a la last season (yeah I know.....)

rvp home to wigan could outscore roonpig even over 2 games...

i only have the funds to tevez>rooney which was my original plan, but i can see that biting me in the a**e now considering the form carlos is in.

tricky one. rafael really hasnt helped things..

Yeah you can get away with rvp and tevez

But when I see a DGW, my eyes become dollar signs CHA CHING!

I actualy think man utd have some high scoring games, it could go well with either berba or rooney

and then again rvp could have get a load at home to wigan, and we all know about tevez. villa are getting better and that's where you could get stuck imo

I have the same problem, im not getting any forwards out, not convinced by rononey and bereb wont get 180. Anyway i played my wc last week and think RVP and tevez should do the business with nani captain. Not worth the iht.

my sentiments exactly old boy. the other problem i have is who to drop out of..

          adam nani fabs vdv lamps
          tevez dj rvp...

nuts as it sounds but surely it has to be vdv or lamps...:(

I've been pondering over my free transfer this week so long I'm going round in circles! Anyone care to put me out of my misery?

    Robinson (Foster)
    Hughes, Hutton, Huth (Bardsley, Jara)
    Nani, Nasri, VDV, Adam (Ferguson)
    Torres (c), Tevez, Drogba
    0.5m in bank

Should I transfer out Jara for Walker/Djourou and play him instead of Huth?
    Or Drogba for RVP/Rooney/Berbatov?

Thinking a striker might gain more points. WC in GW26 btw.

    many thanks

cheers, Phillips. May just do that. I was planning Torres out next week for RVP anyway, just worried he might score more against Wigan than either of the ManU strikers even w/o a DGW.

Firstly, WBA have a very tasty run of games coming up, secondly your striker argument may hold water.

      Carling cup

if birmingham get through, their fixtures will be double gw 27, miss a gw28 then double 29 i think

if arsenal get through, they will miss 28 with spurs as well

Agree with CatMac, Reina doesn't look value, however I would have reservations about Kelly at moment as well, although it could be good budget shout.

Thanks. Yeah I don't like having so much on a keeper but I figured he's got a double this week, then Stoke at home, then Foster in for his triple. Could just go with Stockdale lol.
Thinking about Kelly to Pantsil but will he play both? Don't know what's going on with Fulham's full backs.
