The Scout Agree Premier League Deal

We’re delighted and proud to announce that Fantasy Football Scout has agreed a deal with the Premier League to provide a weekly column for their official Fantasy game.

“The Scout” will make an appearance twice a week throughout the season to provide Gameweek preview and review articles and will also be supplying injuries and suspension information via our newly designed systems.

The review article will include full details on Bonus Point awards for a given Gameweek and seek to remove any ambiguity surrounding assists awards.

The agreement is the culmination of months of discussions and hard work behind the scenes and I’d like to thank Chris (Elfozzie) for his efforts in securing this deal and all the contributors who have established this site as a source of editorial and information worthy to support the biggest Fantasy game around.

We’d also like to thank the community that has supported us and helped to make the site what it is. We really have made great strides in recent years and that is down to the knowledge, enthusiasm and support you have shown for what we’re trying to achieve with Fantasy Football Scout.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Afternoon chaps.

I'm not overly concerned about this.

Remember, it's not about the information provided it's about how people process that information.

Plenty of times last season I'd advise a mate on his team and explain why that move would work - they took my advice and didn't do anything with it, even though it made clear sense to do so.

We might see a sharp increase of people visiting this site, but how many of these people, in your mini leagues, just don't have the common sense to take certain things on board?

The reason why a lot of us do well in this game is because we can see why making a move is a good or bad decision. Last season, there were players mentioned by FFS and people would run off and bring them in; what they didn't do is really understand why they were bringing him in, in the first place.

It's all about getting as much information as you can and then deciding for yourself what to do with it. This is where lots of us will always have the upper hand as we'll have a better idea whether to agree or disagree with the advice given.

Also, forward planning is one of the most important parts of the game; not just who to bring in now.

Very good! Your post makes a lot of sense.

for instance, there were players last season that I really wanted to knee-jerk on, but they didn't fit into my team, so I had to pass them by.

Others would have given up the long-term plan and kneejerked.

Yeah. And like I say, a lot of people think 1 GW at a time, whereas I like to think 5-6 GWs into the future and bring players who could work out well in the longer term.

Forward planning can make a big difference.

Quite right KC, I don't do a week by week ticker, but good periods and bad periods, most teams split into between 4 and six during the season. A few don't seem to have very good or very bad runs.

It certainly helps with other games where transfers are far more limited.

Yeah and it can go a step further by knowing some players are 'fixture proof' in that it doesn't matter too much whether that team has a good, bad or indifferent run - they can still score goals vs any opposition.

IMHO, FPL is all about "efforts" (to get info and analyze it properly to make a reasonable choice), "commitment" (to stick for the whole season), and "luck" (to get right players out of equally attractive, to make transfers in time, injuries/suspension, to do/avoid some transfers because you have injuries/suspensions, etc).

Before this site was created, the role of "efforts" was crucial. Players had to follow team news, check injuries, make their own research on clubs' websites and forums, and etc. Putting efforts and time into this game was the main feature that differentiated a successful player from unsuccessful.

After the FFS was created, it gave its visitors two biggest advantages. First, there was no need to do your own research. All the necessary info on team news, injuries, suspensions was here, a list of reasonable targets and potential differentials was available. Basically, this site just helped to save a lot of time for those who cared enough.

Second, this site provided a list of potential targets: players' rankings and a dream team for a GW. Some players could just visit this site once a week, check the rankings and dream team and pick up the best player for the position they needed. Sticking to the list allowed to pick good players in fantasy terms and beat at least all the rookies bringing in defensive midfielders, the official pundit recommended players, west brom defenders, and other non-fantasy footballers. However, as these rankings and dream teams are the result of someone else's opinion (who is a very decent FPL player, but not the best), a good player could still beat such lazy sheeps by doing his own analysis. All you have to do is to pick the right players in your opinion. How would you do that? Watch games, read articles, share opinions in the forum, develop strategies, and think yourself.

Now as all this info gets available to all the players, the overall results will increase significantly. Injury and suspension information provided by FFS will make stupid transfers by those who don't put any efforts almost impossible. Dream teams and rankings will make it much easier for rookies and bad players, because it brings them to the level of that decent player who creates these dream teams and rankings.
The return on putting efforts becomes much smaller, but it still exists.

    Conclusion:
I think the main result of this news (and FFS getting bigger in general) is that the role of luck in this game increases. People will still have to put some efforts and commit to the game, but returns on putting efforts decrease. A chance to luck out by sticking to advises of FFS and beat those who do research and thorough analysis due to just being lucky are now higher.
Although, those who put more efforts and are smarter will still be high in rankings, and those who hardly give a damn or whose thinking process isn't the best will still be low, but the differences between players will diminish.

Sorry, for a long and boring text. Just decided to express my thoughts.

Don't want to install adblocker for here, as I completely understand that FFS needs advertising revenue, but accepting the NI dollar isn't a good development, particularly in the current climate.

I don’t care about the scout providing the FPL site a bit of advice once a week. There’s always more than one way to skin a cat and every week there’s loads of good suggestions, picking the ones that provide balance to your existing team and with a long term strategy is the hard part.

The only worry I have is that right now (and over the past months) Mark & co are giving insight on which players might be big for the 2011/12 season and their starting prices are adjusted accordingly. Once we get going I don’t give a monkeys but if someone like Albrighton last year is getting game time in pre-season and impressing I want him to come in at 4.5 again and potentially be undervalued rather than coming in at 5/5.5 and the advantage being lost.

You wouldn’t have thought that would be the case but Granville mentioned earlier about influencing prices.

Nothing else concerns me and I think it’s fantastic for the team, this site is brilliant and deserves the recognition. The changes last year and the general layout are excellent, can’t wait to see the new look either.

what was different last season from previous ones, was the availability of bargains with excellent scoring average, which made all players capable of having big teams, especially with the abscence of the likes of gerrard and lampard and fabs torres and rooney by being considered overpriced fort ehir returns.

this season will be back to normal, with more balanced teams between expensive players mid priced and bargains who will feature as real differencials.

so no worries as the personal choice in this game will again become more important than the majority's opinion.

I don’t disagree that personal choice is always important. And I don’t mind who has access to the insights provided by the Scout team, people still need to make their own choice at the end.

But, in my mind, part of the job of the FFS team is to look for ‘mistakes’ made by the FPL team (price or OOP for example) and then let us know about them. If they are working with the FPL team then there is a bit of a conflict of interest. Obviously once the season starts it doesn’t matter – prices and positions are set in stone and gems and OOP players will always appear. But if the FFS team notice Coleman (using an example from last year) playing OOP in pre-season (and FPL is opening late) will the FFS team be passing that information on and some of the advantages lost (i.e. FPL then classify him as midfielder last season).

It makes no difference if you know what your opponent is going to do or not do. Once the games kick off it's luck. Very few have the time or energy to troll thru all the posts and open up all the links.

Remember it's going to be "new" to thousands of managers.

Yes, the info available to the fpl users will mean more managers will have info they never had before, but that will prob confuse the shite out of them anyway.

Here's an idea, anyone signed up as a member before the game launches can access one forum, anyone signing up after can only access another. That way, those who don't want/can't afford to part with the membership are not punished. The loyal long-termers can carry on bantering with one another without having to trawl through pages of rubbish and the newbies can still have a forum, just not with the old-school massive...

I think that's only in the interest of a very very small group.

We're all one big happy family you know! There is nothing suggesting that paying members are better posters than non members.

True but it is an extra function you would be entitled to if you contributed financially. Mark hinted at some filter system. Non-paying posters would still be able to reply to paying posters, but those who pay could have the option of filtering out 500 RMTs an hour on Saturday morning from non paying members if they wish.

Just a thought, I'm sure Mark has a well thought through idea

        That's beside the point AP.

And anyway, it wouldn't work, you need a certain amount of new people otherwise the conversation will stagnate, and no-one new will come to chat if all there are, are confused newbies.

It has to stay the way it is IMO, for better or worse. If you want to private chat, set up a Google + circle for FFS.

I dont know about you guys but I'm all for this. Fair play to Mark and the guys in creating something that has become so huge! My other rivals know of this site, any idiot that types 'fantasy footy tips' into google would have knowledge of this site. The difference between us diehard FF-ers and the casual player will be the amount of time mulling over a decision based on all of the statistics, most of my rivals I don't think they'd spend too long, as they're busy people (not saying that none of us are...) 😛

I suppose we are just gonna have to up our games!!

The bonus point reveal could be a bit dodgy though, if everyone on this site reads why the FF choose players that always get bps, surely everyone will get them in and everyones teams are going to look even more similar than last year. that's my only major worry though! Oh and the other things Mark promised us, I'm a little scared... 😛 hold me...?

Yeah, it's a bit shame the tone was so overwhelmingly negative.

Any idea why player prices have gone through the roof this summer? I would have thought £4.75Mil for him was a huge offer.Watching the clubs squander their funds seems a bit like watching Lemmings queueing ready for their dash to the cliff top.

Probably because if a team don't pay crazy sums then another team will. There have been tops like this one before, the prices will go down again in the next windows.

Clubs like Man United, Man City, Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid have continually driven the prices up for 20 years and now it has exploded with the super rich owners etc.

It's like poker. The more games played (in this instance 38) the less luck matters.

Over 38 games luck matters much less than a single GW.

It will be interesting to see how that work in practice. The assist rules will still be prone to some subjectivity of interpretation so the explanation will never satisfy everyone. Could be a bit of a poisoned chalice for the boys taking that particular role on.

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3691579/Manchester-United-close-in-on-35million-Wesley-Sneijder.html

At least now if we don't sign sneijder the sun will look absolutely ridiculous- it's win/win! 😀

United are going to have to pay 40-50m and high wages if they want Sneijder I'm afraid. Personally I'd look at Vidal from Leverkusen.

I also reckon schweinsteiger could be a dark horse, haven't heard many clubs bidding for him and bayern had a pretty disappointing season.

Pretty strong sources have said that deal is off, Raphael Hönigstein for example. Think it's highly unlikely that deal happens.

Damn- he would have been a brilliant addition.... 🙁

I'm still gobsmacked that the sun are so confident about this sneijder thing- every single scrap of information we have completely contradicts it!

              Yeah.

We're all in the dark here, but I'm almost sure that the Sun is too. They sell papers by being known for printing rubbish.

I don't see any real reason why a paper like The Sun would know more than an interested fan.

This is my suspicion- that they're just saying it to catch people's eye as they walk past the newstand.

Even so, if there was literally nothing whatsoever behind it then that's just shocking journalism. (not sure why I'm surprised though!)

This is my favourite bit from the article:

"We told you exclusively yesterday that United wanted the 27-year-old Dutchman."

                  no shit sherlock.... 🙄

I entered my first ever prize minileague last year, not massive money but won £140 which was cool. Going to try and enter more this year! A friend of mine cleaned up in a £300 entry league :/ A load of city traders. Seriously considering entering the same league next season if they let me, though he had to finish in the top 100 in the world to win it... a lot of good managers in it.

Excellent - best I've ever managed was £30 from the works teams pool. - All for fun really.

the real thing I've gained from playing FPL is a greater interest in MOTD, and the other teams in the league, which is just what Barclays wanted I guess.
