Scout Notes

Scout Notes- Gameweek Two- Sunday

David Silva continues to dazzle as the main dangerman for Roberto Mancini’s stylish Man City in a 3-2 win over battling Bolton. A Matt Jarvis inspired Wolves keep up their 100% league record with a comfortable win over Fulham, while Stoke grab a last-gasp equaliser to deny Norwich a dream home start. Here’s the round-up of yesterday’s matches:

Solid Wolves
With Kevin Doyle partnered by Steven Fletcher up top and Roger Johnson marshalling the back-four, Wolves are looking a steelier proposition this season. The strike duo rarely played together last term due to injuries but have already shown that, if they can keep match-fit, will be a handful for any side. Mick McCarthy’s side swept Fulham aside in their opening home fixture of the season and with a wiser, more experienced look to the first XI, look unlikely to suffer a repeat of last season’s battle with relegation. Matt Jarvis was the stand-out player, with a goal and an assist in the 2-0 win. Roger Johnson appeared to grab an assist in the win but with all assists under review this weekend, we’re anticipating this to be addressed.

Jol Has Work to Do
Fulham have been impressive in their Europa League qualifiers so far but yesterday’s loss at Molineux means they’ve taken just one point from two league games and have failed to find the net. Martin Jol made four changes from the side that beat Dnipro in midweek but Fulham looked lethargic in this, their ninth game of the season, and will need to pick themselves up for next week’s trip to Newcastle. Clint Dempsey started up front again, partnering Andy Johnson as Bobby Zamora missed out with an ankle knock.

Bolton Up for the Battle
Owen Coyle’s side may have been beaten in the end but their willingness to scrap every inch of the way was encouraging for the Trotters boss. Ivan Klasnic scored again, Martin Petrov looked the part on the left wing and picked up two assists and with Kevin Davies also netting, Coyle’s side are in fine form going forward right now. The only problem for Bolton is that their fixture list doesn’t get any easier- the City game was the first in a run of matches that will see them face five of last season’s top six between Gameweeks 2-7.

Silva Continues to Shine
Man City have now scored seven goals in their opening two games and despite Sergio Aguero’s brilliant debut last Monday, it’s David Silva who has been the consistent stand-out. The playmaker was immense at the Reebok, passing and probing for openings in a porous Bolton back-four that was lucky to concede just the three goals. Silva has now scored in the opening two games, though there’s no denying his goal was somewhat fortuitous. With Carlos Tevez getting game time at Aguero’s expense and Yaya Toure dropping deeper now that 4-4-2 is a viable formation for Roberto Mancini, Silva looks the most assured Fantasy option of any City player. Mancini left out Gael Clichy, Nigel de Jong and Adam Johnson for this one, with Aleksander Kolarov, James Milner and Sergio Aguero starting.

Tinkerman Lambert
Paul Lambert demonstrated that he will shuffle his pack in attempt to counter the threat of opponents. He made no less than five changes to the Norwich starting XI that earned a draw at Wigan, dropping the likes of Andrew Surman, Russell Martin and Wes Hoolahan to the bench. Steve Morison missed out with a groin injury meaning that Chris Martin came in alongside Grant Holt. Turning his back on the midfield diamond in favour of a traditional 4-4-2 with wingers, Lambert emphasised the need to adapt in his post-match comments . From a Fantasy perspective then, the early signs are that we can take nothing for granted with the Canaries line-up. Ritchie De Laet at the back and Grant Holt in attack would seem the most reliable targets – De Laet was again impressive and his goal will have earned him further attention which is likely to tempt investment.

Potters Spot-Kick Dilemma
Stoke’s persistence eventually paid off against ten man Norwich, with Kenwyne Jones’ late equaliser denying the Canaries all three points. Jonathan Woodgate returned at centre-half after being rested in midweek, though a knee injury to Jermaine Pennant will cause Tony Pulis some concern- the winger was withdrawn just after the half hour mark. Jonathan Walters seemed to have jumped to the head of the queue for spot-kick duties- he stepped up and subsequently missed a penalty with previous first-choice Matt Etherington on the field. It’s perhaps doubtful as to whether Walters takes the next one.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Currently watching the weekends highlights here in New Zealand (just moved here a week ago) - after the Chelsea/West Brom game they gave a run-down of the players with the highest Stat Scores (think they might have been from EA, wasn't really listening) - top 3 were:

    1) Bosingwa
    2) Anelka
    3) Long

I'll pay more attention next week... if they are indeed relevant to our BPs!

I'm 4,000th odd in the world on metro out of 120,000 or so...I've gone for an opposition strategy to FPL and this week Captain Malouda came trumps, as captain silva did last week. Wish FPL was as good as Metro with its great live scoring and working website.

I just switched Torres for Bent and not sure I want to treble up on Villa. So, what to do with Nzog? Thinking maybe bring in Jarvis and use the £1.5 (2.5 in total) to upgrade either De Laet, Moses, Dyer, Simpson or Brown?

Thinking of doing Yaya and Torres out for Silva and Suarez.

Pros: Better players. Avoids price drops and catches rises.

Cons: Costs 4 points. No Chelsea fwds for NOR.

I dont think so, not this week. I've got nando (useless twat that he is) but feel you have to keep him just one more game. if he scores a couple this weekend i would imagine any drop in price will come back the next week as people jump back on him. 4 points is 4 points. Last year a lot of people who had high value teams also had pretty naff scores. Points make prizes and theres a long long way to go. Yaya to Silva makes sense but not so sure this week its necessary Nibbsy

Cheers. That is definitely the sensible approach. It's not an ideal week to bring in Silva with his fixture, and Suarez is still not fully fit so only likely to play 60 mins or so.

Thing is, 4 points at this stage of the season is not much to recover, and I'd be much happier with my team.

        I dunno, tough one.

My team isn’t too bad for Gameweek 3, the starting XI kinda picks itself (depending on tonight and injuries in the Carling Cup).

I know that keeping two transfers may be a wise move for gameweek 4 with the international break on the horizon. It is however going to be horrible watching people rise and fall in the meantime!

Even if FPL have had to change software to 'recreate' the game, surely they would have made a checklist of features in the old game to ensure they capture them all in the new operation?

I guess it came down to time and resources- they maybe lost some key staff as the old game was essentially developed years ago and only tweaked here and there; or it took longer than expected

Anyway, it's poor, but it is free I suppose

No statistics page with easy access to all players. You cannot click on the results on the fixture list to get an overview of the points distribution in that game. It takes forever for the bonus points to be calculated and the league tables to be updated.

im keeping baines and enrique as my stalwart defenders this year. and yeah man, dont think he'll rack up as many as baines. but as i said... they'll both be top 5

I wouldn’t worry about Enrique just yet. If Bolton score then you have Enrique at Stoke and Spurs after that I believe. Not particularly attractive games either defensively or for attacking returns.

I hope you are right on the Baines front!

I am not denying Enrique is pretty amazing value at present, I just don’t think the time is right just now. I know he could easily be 5.3/5.4 by the time I get round to considering him though which is a bit of a bitch – especially if he has a good weekend this week (which he may be 5.1 for if the price changes ever kick in). Bolton have scored 6goals already this season too don’t forget.

Although the BP's take till Monday to come out, at least we can see how and why they were chosen. No more random points given out by some dozy judge watching the game and picking players he liked best, now it's down to hard statistics. I like that players get more points being on the winning team, I think it helps to balance the game out. It would be nice if they broke down that PPI to show exactly where the points came from so you can analyse further, but I guess the members area can help with that.

you cant please everyone though i think people just need to forget about it and get on. i remember everyone complaining last season when cashley was getting 3 BP's.

After a zillion RMT there's a worrying increase in this type of post.

"After a couple of weeks I want to massively knee jerk quite good players who had a bad week out to replace them with other quite good players"

Just don't do it. If you have torres, keep him for one more week, you may as well against norwich. If you have moses put him on the bench and keep him for another week...if you have one more mid worse than him then that's bad planning anyway.

If you don't have silva....just wait a week. He's away to spurs next week.

My dilemma with Torres is will he start? Probably, yes, but I don't really want to keep him in and see him sitting on the bench while Suarez goes mopping up points. (Torres -> Suarez would be the transfer).

I'm wildcarding next week, so it's a simple who'll score more this GW (and I'll probably keep Suarez with the WC and he'll have gone up in price and Torres will have dropped, most likely). I may not make the trade, but at the moment I think I will.

I read above (from G-Granville) that the PPI results were out. I can't find that, I just find this on the http://www.premierleague.com/page/PlayerPerformanceIndex website

"The EA SPORTS Player Performance index is updated weekly and is announced on "http://www.premierleague.com/">www.premierleague.com every Tuesday, along with the EA SPORTS Team of the Week, which is made up of the top players from the Index"

The last update I can see was last Tuesday. What are you looking at?

Doesn't this mean we have to wait until at least Tuesday for BPs?
