The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk – It’s About Time

With just five games played out, Saturday satisfaction always looked unlikely. It’s fitting however, that with the big guns yet to be primed, we saw a handful of mid-price players come to the fore and deliver long overdue returns. Fitting and just little bit painful.

Jamie O’Hara started proceedings, blasting a dramatic equaliser to earn Wolves an unlikely point. Full of industry, creativity and threat, O’Hara has been an influential figure, without delivering returns for those brave enough to take a punt. Subject of our recent Members’ Monitor article and, just a couple of gameweek’s later, O’Hara has at last broke his duck. It was coming.

The start of something special? With City up next and three away games in four, it seems unlikely. Even so, O’Hara could yet figure on our radars should McCarthy get Wolves earning victories again.

A few hours later, Sunderland’s Stephane Sessegnon – another mid-price midfielder who has failed to live up to his pre-season billing, earned Steve Bruce three points with a victory at the Reebok.

Ironically, Sessegnon’s first goal of the season coincided with his shift back to the flank, as Bruce paired Connor Wickham and Nicklas Bendtner in his forward line. The Dane later converted a second for the Black Cats; Sessegnon providing the assist and fetching a belated 10-point return for the few thousand Fantasy managers who had kept the faith. Expect bonus points to follow on Monday morning and, with three home games in four to come, suddenly “Sess” is back in the game and blinking bright.

While Sunderland prevailed at Bolton, Yohan Cabaye also fired his first goal of the season to hand North East rivals Newcastle the points. The Frenchman is another Fantasy prospect that’s been touted as overdue returns. Having delivered just a couple of assists thus far, Cabaye gleefully converted to keep the Magpies buoyant and Wigan resigned to the relegation spots.

Unlike Sessegnon, Cabaye’s stock seems unlikely to rise from today’s success. Alan Pardew is now set to steer his happy ship through choppy waters, three away trips in four with Stoke, City and United presenting three of the toughest destinations around. Cabaye’s next significant return could be a good few weeks away.

Is anyone out there feeling smug? Is there really any Fantasy manager with O’Hara, Sessegnon and Cababye tucked away in their lineup? There can’t be many and yet, there will be plenty who have owned at least one of them previously, now pondering what might have been.

Having been threatening to return all season, the trio chose today to get off the mark – a day which seems set to see such modest scoring for many. That only fuels the frustration and makes their late delivery all the more difficult to accept.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Well done Waldaz. I just can't get it right on FT. My usual tactic is 2 x nailed on scorers from "top 4" followed by a ridiculous punt.
My ridiculous punt this week is Pavyluchenko..I think 50 points
My thinking was Blackburn Spurs 0-0....Pav on as sub for the winner.

I don't like to pick the "big guns", especially when they are in my FPL team, I just go with strikers from middle table teams with good multipliers, just for fun. 🙂

I'll be alone in this sentiment but I wasn't too blown away, he only had one superb chance which drew a superb save right at the death. The other shots were just sloppy, the ones off the post included.
I'll be keeping in my squad for the next two gameweeks but I think I'll avoid captaining him.

      Hi there,

I did not see the match, but the stats from previous weeks, suggest you should not have any faith.

Does not have a single assist to his name. Either no support, or no vision.

So looks like my my first doubling up on defenders since the glory days of macleish's birmingham paid off. Thanks for the 11 pts taylor and simpson.

Suarez is troubling me though. That price and the valuable striker position he is taking up cannot realistically be justified for a player who can't score at home against Norwich. May keep, but he's doing his best to make me regret that.

Norwich were incredibly lucky based on what I saw on MOTD. Liverpool should have been home and hosed in this one. They won't hit the woodwork 3 times in a game many times this season.

    Fair play to them though.

Lol. You're an optimistic QPR fan aren't you? Nah, I think you may just park the bus- the airbus in fact. I'd go for 4-0 win to us. I'll be looking forward to seeing the handshake (or lack of one) between JT and Barton tomorrow, and any subsequent 50-50's between them, I see a Joey Barton red card in the game tbh, hopefully within five minutes. Have a word with him, make sure he doesn't injure any of our players. Actually, 4-1, we'll concede no doubt.

I can't see us parking the bus Tom.

Not sure whose scoring our 1 though. Think you'll keep a cleanie tomorrow. However, it's a derby so anything can happen but I'm trying to be realistic in my expectations tomorrow, Tom.

If Adel is up for it tomorrow it could be interesting though.

I hope you dont park the bus, its never fun when a team does that. And I see Faurlin scoring your one goal, I can see you giving us a real game but I'm confident we'll walk away with 3 points. Any result after that would be acceptable to be fair. I think Taraabt will be up for it tomorrow, he'll be neutralised by Meireles though. Or Mikel.

Ignore what the ex Liverpool players tell you what to think, Norwich were good value for a point today, there was only gonna be one winner in the second half and it wasn't Liverpool.

      Watch a game in full.

On another day those chances fall LIverpool's way and they are 2 or 3 up before Norwich have cleared their heads.

No shame in accepting that sometimes you get luck on your side. At some point in a season every team needs it.

I dunno seems like the odds are just against him at the moment, hitting the post twice and a couple amazing saves from Ruddy....What annoys me is, he can be as classy player as he likes, if he doesn't score, he's nothing. May as well just have Graham.

im tipsy and contemplating a 8 point hit 🙂

thinking of doing ramsey/suarz/saylor to sturridge/vdv/kompany for the long haul would leave me with

    ruddy(vorm)
    kompany/brown/naylor(enrique raylor)
    mata/silva/nani/vdv(ferg)
    sturridge/ade/rvp

its only an idea at the mo but thoughts appreciated?

All three have great games so I can understand why....but an 8 point hit should only be done if you are exceptionally playing catch up.

Maybe do 1-2 changes first...but I do think that you'll regret transferring suarez out this coming gw.
