The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk – Double-barrelled

Benoit Assou-Ekotto’s left-foot ensured that the double gameweek had the impact we’d anticipated, but there can be no doubt the he was an unexpected source of satisfaction.

A 30-yard screamer, deflecting off Tim Cahill’s posterior, marked the closest Everton’s Aussie has got to getting his name on the scoresheet this season. Assou-Ekotto has gone one better than the Socceroo, rightly claiming a stunning strike, although his application for goal of the season will surely be turned down thanks to Cahill’s intervention.

With 10% ownership in the Fantasy Premier League game, after over 40,000 transfers in for Gameweek 20, Assou-Ekotto has clearly provided a major boost to a fair slice of Fantasy managers. Those who missed out on tonight’s goal, assist and clean sheet bonanza can at least take some comfort from the fact that such returns were far from signposted. The Cameroon international had scored just one league goal in his previous five seasons – he had mustered just a single shot on target this term before this evening.

It was surely Assou-Ekotto’s price tag, rather than his proven attacking prowess, behind his selection for Tottenham’s double Gameweek. His investors could hardly have expected a profit of 21 point (24 with the inevitable bonus) for their punt.

All the expectation was instead laid at the door of Gareth Bale, Rafael Van der Vaart and Emmanuel Adebayor. While the two of that trio managed to scratch together an assist of Tottenham’s two matches, Adebayor was a major let down; just two goal attempts, both off target, saw the Togo striker do little to justify the FPL armband.

For many, the first double gameweek passed as a non-event – a reminder that the hype and over investment so often involved, can slap us in the face. And yet, ironically, the unlikely profit from Assou-Ekotto demonstrates just how that extra transfer, perhaps even a 4-point hit, can pay off spectacularly when the doubles come around.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Niiiiiiiice.

Rio illness means Evans should start. 😀

Might keep my WC as late as possible, in that case.

After all, he's the defender with most number of CS / starts this season! (50%)

He's the spark that the United defence needs. 😉

Dropped back to 17.5k bit of a gutter with 68, probably due to a lack of Benoit...praise the lord that I captained Bale and not Ade. He's gone now for the Roon, and good riddance!

What's everyone doing with Vorm? I'm on my wildcard and currently have Krul/Vorm as my keeper combo.
Considering shipping Vorm out, i can't see this run of clean sheets at home going on forever and Swansea's fixtures look tough-ish.

    Silva, Nani, Bale (Sess, Ferg)

one of my main reasons for wildcarding after this week was due to having 2 liverpool defenders away at bolton then wolves

to be fair tho the rest of my team is a mess n would require a hit to sort it out

My reasons for Rooney over Aguero this week:

        - I'm going to OT.
        - He has a great record against Bolton.
        - Aguero isn't great away and Wigan can surprise (eg.Chelsea, Liverpool).
        - It makes my bank exactly 0.0 having him.
        - He's scored 4 in his last 4 starts.

    Vorm
    Simpson, Walker, Enrique
    Dempsey, Nani, Bale, Valencia
    Van Persie, Sturridge, Adebeyor

Think im gonna wildcard next week, probably get rid of at least 1 spurs player then.

Looks good, lots of home players! I'm pondering a hit to get Dempsey for Sinclair, instead my transfer so far was Sturridge to Yak. Identical otherwise (apart from BAE). I've been avoiding hits and got a good run going so I think I'll wait on Dempsey.

Activated my wildcard, this is the team atm. Opinions?

    Krul (Vorm)
    BAE Williamson Enrique (Williams) (Senderos)
    Sessegnon Ramires Bale Nani (Walters)
    Aguero Rooney Sturridge

    Cheers.
Btw I don't need to have differentials, just a solid team to see my lead out.

RMWCT, after shifting trading and selling i came up with this

    -------------------Vorm(Krul)----------------
    -----Richards---BAE----Williamson--- (Naylor, Raylor)
    -----Nani----VDV----Silva----Bale-----(HBA)
    ------Aguero---Rooney----RVP---------

Well that's definitely a 'fantasy' fantasy football team because there's no way anyone could afford all those players.

    My team for this gw

    Vorm
    Jones, Enrique, Simpson(?)
    Silva(?), Vdv, Bale, Nani
    Rvp, Ade, Sturridge (?)

    Benching Allen, Wilko and Hibbert

Too many doubts, but will I survive this gw - would like to save a tranny and do
Nani + Allen to Dempsey + Sess next week.

I'm trying to save my wc until after gw23, but this Silva thing is making my plan
difficult. Also is it true that Ade won't play against city?
I was thinking to keep spurs trio for home game against wigan and hope they
will give me something to smile about (chose vdv instead of BAE for double 🙁 ).

I don't want to make a time too similar to what most post on here as my main rival follows the site. He is like 40 points ahead of me in the league.

    Vorm / Sorenson
    Simpson / Skrtel / BAE / Clark / Richards
    Milner / Nani / Bale / Dempsey / Sess
    Yak / RVP / Sturridge

Can't decide if to have Sorensen / Simpson or Krul / Shotton.

Milner is a bit of a punt, could go Silva / Valencia or Milner / Nani

Thinking of BAE to Riise too but he just appeared on the watch list!!

Milner is very tricky I cant decide because I have to trade many players if I wanna get him.

Riise? "Easy fixtures coming but do you trust Fulham's backline?

I saw on another website that BAE will have the highest game week score ever, surely this can't be true?
Thought Berba had 25+ for his four goals last Christmas

Ashley Young and Rooney both scored more in the 8-2 thrashing of Arsenal earlier this season. Could be one of the top defender scores ever.

I need to sell one of Jagielka and Kompany. I have 1.8 in the bank and my defence is Freidel, Vorm, Jones, Enrique and Simpson. The simplest option would be to sell Kompany for Richards but I would prefer to sell Jagielka. But who to get in for this GW? Samba and MacAuley are injury doubts, Stoke and Sunderland have difficult matches. Double up on Newcastle?

He was at the ACN in Jan 2010 when the Togolese bus was shot up by terrorists in Angola, wounding several of his teammates and killing the driver. He then said he would never play tor Togo again.

Would you not rather have Nani instead of Gerrard because they're the same price? Nani is due a monster week soon and home against Bolton could be it. I have the same forwards this week with Rooney captain.

    RMT

Had a *horrendous* week last week and have dropped from 12,485 to 48,981 in the space of three weeks. I got the deadline wrong in GW20 and captained bloody RVP rather than Bale. I would have brought in either BAE or Kyle Walker as well.

What do you reckon? Anything particularly crap jump out at you?

I did the same thing with missing deadline and had RVP(C) instead of Bale. I also would have changed out Krul for Vorm and Simpson for Naylor, but that fortunately got me 4 extra points when I should have been crucified on that. I had Walker in defense fortunately, though, so that brought me big points. Even with the captain screw-up, I went from 148k to 108k, so I can't feel too bad about this week.

My only issue is whether you think Rooney will start coming around. You could seriously upgrade two defenders for a better shot at some CS's, but on the other hand he's due to take off again.

Terry N.Taylor BAE(had him for awhile) Gab De Laet
Dempsey Silva Sesse Bale Ferg(wont play and cheap)
      RVP Rooney Yak

Dont know if i should put in Terry or not...maybe Taylor R?

Last game Taylor didn't come on until the second half, he has the advantage of his set pieces and occasional goal but if he is missing half a game each time i just dont know. plus Pardew must be looking for some reinforcements for his injured centre backs.
