The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk – Double-barrelled

Benoit Assou-Ekotto’s left-foot ensured that the double gameweek had the impact we’d anticipated, but there can be no doubt the he was an unexpected source of satisfaction.

A 30-yard screamer, deflecting off Tim Cahill’s posterior, marked the closest Everton’s Aussie has got to getting his name on the scoresheet this season. Assou-Ekotto has gone one better than the Socceroo, rightly claiming a stunning strike, although his application for goal of the season will surely be turned down thanks to Cahill’s intervention.

With 10% ownership in the Fantasy Premier League game, after over 40,000 transfers in for Gameweek 20, Assou-Ekotto has clearly provided a major boost to a fair slice of Fantasy managers. Those who missed out on tonight’s goal, assist and clean sheet bonanza can at least take some comfort from the fact that such returns were far from signposted. The Cameroon international had scored just one league goal in his previous five seasons – he had mustered just a single shot on target this term before this evening.

It was surely Assou-Ekotto’s price tag, rather than his proven attacking prowess, behind his selection for Tottenham’s double Gameweek. His investors could hardly have expected a profit of 21 point (24 with the inevitable bonus) for their punt.

All the expectation was instead laid at the door of Gareth Bale, Rafael Van der Vaart and Emmanuel Adebayor. While the two of that trio managed to scratch together an assist of Tottenham’s two matches, Adebayor was a major let down; just two goal attempts, both off target, saw the Togo striker do little to justify the FPL armband.

For many, the first double gameweek passed as a non-event – a reminder that the hype and over investment so often involved, can slap us in the face. And yet, ironically, the unlikely profit from Assou-Ekotto demonstrates just how that extra transfer, perhaps even a 4-point hit, can pay off spectacularly when the doubles come around.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Jeez this place is so predictable, how many WC's now containing BAE? Do people not look at the fixture list? Spuds have got pretty stinky fixtures coming up, have I missed something?

I guess it might be a money-raising exercise together with a 3 week punt (for the 2 good home fixtures). One could then do BAE -> Komp afterwards (if one holds a little money back for the purpose). I'm tempted by the idea myself, although I still think I prefer Enrique's short-term fixtures.

True, but they also have 2 very nice home fixtures in the next 3, and BAE is at a price where you can easily make a sideways move/downgrade when the fixtures turn more poo.

Hardly the dumbest punt in the world.

This is sort of true, but do you really expect them all to know he has 2/3 very good games? You're giving the usual FPL player a little too much credit there.

        My plan is:
        Vorm Krul
Shotton Kelly Senderos Simpson BAE/Enrique/Richards (ultimately Komp goes here)
        Bale Dempsey Walters Nani VDV
        RVP Aguero Yak

But not sure about keeping VDV + Bale. Was going to squeeze Silva in with Nani (with Walters downgraded), but now just think I'll swap Nani -> Silva after Bolton if Silva is ok.

I considered him for a split second for Silva as a knee-jerk when I heard he could be out for a while, but I think I'd like to see some consistent games before actually getting him in.
Could be an inspired punt with Stoke, Bolton and Wolves as his next 3.

    My team for this gw

    Vorm
    Jones, Enrique, Simpson(?)
    Silva(?), Vdv, Bale, Nani
    Rvp, Ade, Sturridge (?)

    Benching Allen, Wilko and Hibbert

Too many doubts, but will I survive this gw - would like to save a tranny and do
Nani + Allen to Dempsey + Sess next week.

I'm trying to save my wc until after gw23, but this Silva thing is making my plan
difficult. Also is it true that Ade won't play against city?
I was thinking to keep spurs trio for home game against wigan and hope they
will give me something to smile about (chose vdv instead of BAE for double 🙁 ).

Not this week. Regardless of Ramires good couple of games, Mata is a way better player and a better fantasy player. Much has been made of Ade misses but Aguero looked short of form as well plus Ade at home.

Im hearing all this talk about dumping spurs players because of fixtures/

Im not buying it , they have a few decent home fixtures coming up Wolves wigan and Newcastle.
Yes they also have man u , but so what? they still capable of scoring points in that game

They away to man c , again so what , man c a few players missing , no reason why they cant get something in that game too. As for liverpool , they will still be without Suarez and are not finding goals too easy.

Im keeping BAE only paid 5.1 so reluctant to sell a player who is always going to be a threat for assists , playing for one of the best three or four teams in the league

talk of dumping spurs now is insane, save for maybe adebayor with his upcoming ineligibility. but after the wigan fixture, especially if you are WCing after that fixture, it really is a nightmare schedule for about 7 gws. so seems wise to stay away, especially defense during that run.

after that though, the final run in of 8 games is delicious!!! load up on spurs!!!!

        ars away
        man u home
        ever away
        stoke home
        chels away
        Swansea home

dosent look that bad to me , can always bench the defender for the tough away ones , i can see those being high scoring , should be able to put a few past man u for example

first off, home to swansea begins the Good run, if i got my total weeks wrong, my fault.

          liv away-bad
          arsenal away-bad
          man u home-bad
          chelsea away-bad

thats 4 bad ones out of 8. so you are benching a 5+mil defender half the time for two months?

not to say points cant be gained in any fixture, but i defy you to come up with a tougher 8 game run for spurs this year.

Your logis is sound. But the question is if you had Bale and Adebayor, would you hold on to both of them though?

Regarding BAE, after WOL,mcy,WIG, Spurs' following fixtures do not scream for cleansheets, imo.

Newcastle is a tricky fixture for Spurs. Chance of cleansheet is not high as you may think.

Quick question.. I'm new so take it easy..

I refer to the total fpl site for price raises and falls.. I find it very good with the raises section but the falls section doesn't update/ or players have been there for ages..

Why is that? And where do I find the falls section as its bitten me a few times.. It's more important now due to me waiting to play me WC..

    Thanks..

The falls section has a lot of players there that are due a drop but for some reason there price has been frozen. They take up all of the top positions and you can't see the other players that are about to drop. If you expand the section you will be able to see all more of the players that are nearing drops.
