Scout Scribbles- Henry a Doubt for Gunners

Newcastle splash the cash to snap up Papiss Demba Cisse. Thierry Henry is an early doubt for Arsenal with a calf problem. Jonas Olsson could return for West Brom this weekend, while Mick McCarthy has a few injury worries ahead of tonight’s FA Cup replay with rivals Birmingham.

Newcastle have made the first significant move in the winter transfer window with the capture of Papiss Demba Cisse from SC Freiburg on a five and a half year deal. The Senegal international, currently unavailable due to African Cup of Nations commitments, has been handed the number nine shirt and is set to link up with compatriot Demba Ba, in what looks like a lethal front pairing for Alan Pardew’s side. Cisse has an outstanding scoring record in the Bundesliga, netting 31 goals in 49 appearances in the last two seasons, and Pardew explained the reasoning behind the move:

Ever since Andy Carroll left, Papiss was my first choice in the specific role he has had at the end of the play. He’s a player who plays off the shoulder and wants to go in behind, but he’s got a little bit more to his game than that.

Thierry Henry may miss out on the chance to feature against Man United this weekend after reports suggest he has picked up a calf problem in training. The Frenchman has since undergone scans, with Arsene Wenger anxiously awaiting the results.

Norwich have announced they have agreed a deal with Leeds for the transfer of Jonathan Howson. The Leeds skipper has six months left on his existing contract and the move will go ahead subject to a medical and agreement of personal terms. It would bring yet another midfielder to the Canaries ranks, further swelling the options available to Fantasy managers- Paul Lambert has already used eight players in the middle this season and with little sign of consistency of selection, Howson’s appeal, in spite of his undoubted talents, may be resultantly lessened.

The Canaries have also revealed Ritchie De Laet’s loan deal has been cancelled. The Belgian has struggled with a back problem all season and has appeared just twice since the end of gameweek 4; he returns to parent club Man United with immediate effect.

Sunderland’s highly-rated forward Ryan Noble has joined up at Derby on a one-month loan deal. Noble has been banging in the goal for the Black Cats reserves but has struggled to make the step up to the first-team, with just a couple of sub appearance all season. Noble is the third Sunderland player to leave on loan this week; Jordan Cook and Louis Laing joined Carlisle United and Wycombe Wanderers respectively.

Chris Herd looks likely to remain on the sidelines for another month for Aston Villa. The Australian has failed to feature since gameweek 15 after picking up an ankle injury and was initially expected to return this month but Alex McLeish admitted yesterday that the player needs further recovery time. McLeish also revealed the club will be cautious with Emile Heskey’s Achilles problem, while Eric Lichaj managed forty-five minutes for the reserves yesterday, having been out since August with a hip problem.

West Brom injury woes appear to be lessening ahead of their weekend trip to Stoke. Speaking yesterday, Roy Hodgson admitted he is hopeful of a first-team for both Jonas Olsson and Shane Long, while Nicky Shorey and Gareth McAuley are making good progress from “slight strains”. On the downside, the Baggies boss revealed that Paul Scharner is a doubt with an Achilles injury and Billy Jones is struggling to overcome a hamstring problem.

Mick McCarthy revealed he has a few injury concerns ahead of this evening’s FA Cup replay with Birmingham. Roger Johnson, Matt Jarvis and Kevin Foley are all likely to be sidelined, with the Wolves boss hopeful the trio will be ready for the weekend home clash against Aston Villa. McCarthy also admitted Dave Edwards was subbed off at Spurs due to a lack of match fitness, while in-form Steven Fletcher will be rested this evening to ensure his availability for the Villa showdown.

Ryan Shotton has today revealed he is on course for a comeback this weekend against West Brom. Shotton missed out last time round at Anfield after failing a fitness test on his ankle but is making steady progress and expects to be available to face Roy Hodgson’s men at the Britannia.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Do you count Silva? Silva is there but 2 City defenders or Kun. The difference in cash is so tempting and they will probably score same points.

Most people reckon baines could be on his way to City. So Baines + Richards + Kun + Silva.

Jeez, that's one third of a team value.

Baines? Erhhh??? What the end of Kolarov has come? Can't be. If that is the case than Baines, Kompany and Silva for me. In the City team there are players that could actually can score and convert the chances. But it is a gossip, I don't believe it honestly,

Also he could be rotated too

    Richards: Price 6.3
    Minutes Played: 1344
    Games Missed: 4

    Clichy: Price 5.6
    Minutes played: 1317
    Games Missed: 6

Mancini has decided to go all Italian on our asses, and is now focussing on keeping CS rather than scoring a bunch, this means our main gains from City players in the next few GW's(also looking at the fixtures) will be CS's.

Richards will always be injury prone and pick up little niggles. Except for that, at times he will be rested. So no, he will not play every game even when available.
Kolorav is not the blue eyed boy to Mancini that he used to be - looking at past games as indication Kolarov is more likely to be implemented as super sub in midfield, rather than start as fullback.

For the difference in price, and considering there are good budget options to come in when Clichy doesn't play, taking into account the main benefit from City's defence in the coming weeks will be CS's and not attacking gains, means I'll be getting in Clichy this WC.

Good analysis, it makes a lot of sense if you have the backup when he doesnt play. I was considering the same thing, but i will do this next week instead.

This week im thinking of taking Nani off for Sess which will give me points to get Aguero in over Sturridge... What you think? am i being too hast getting rid of sturridge?

I'd seriously consider keeping Studge for this week still. Norwich let the goals pour in - and he looks very likely to start this GW. You just know when Chelsea score goals Sturridge will most likely be involved.

    A
    VORM KENNY
    Kompany Caulker Simpson Kelly SHOTTON
    Valencia Walters Bale Silva McClean
    Rvp Aguero FLETCHER

    B
    SORENSON LINDEGAARD
    Kompany Caulker Simpson Kelly ENRIQUE
    Valencia Walters Bale Silva McClean
    Rvp Aguero GRAHAM

B seems to weaken the team for the dubious purpose of fitting in Enrique but then it does give a better balance to the backline.

Also McClean or Dyer for that last midfield slot?

Arsenal Vs Man U - normally a fixture of relatively low score but I reckon this season it will be explosive..

I can see a win for Arsenal - 3-1 or 3-2... VP the main man

have made rule to self to never bench Bale ever, so I'd bench Morison out of that choice (or Sess outside of it)

WCers, talk to me. What keepers you going with? I have Krul and Vorm right now, but thinking of Vorm -> Mignolet.

sun CHE NOR MCTY EVE NEW BLA WOL LIV

    vs

SWA NOR ARS LIV QPR TOT WOL BOL MNUTD

It's a close call. Mignolet saves 0.3 if you had bought Vorm at 4. Thoughts?

I'm not doing my WC until GW24 and was going to go for Krul - Mignolet as my GK's, thing is the weeks you'd actually play Mignolet they have Arsenal and Spurs.

I'm now considering Hennessey to rotate with Krul (i do have a second WC though for G29ish when Spurs/Man U's fixtures improve). Maybe an option?

Personally I wouldn't go for Vorm but then I haven't had him all season. Caulker is much cheaper for defensive coverage. Lots on here are keeping him..

Wolves don't appeal to me defensively this season. They haven't been solid enough.

I'm actually thinking Mignolet would get a lot of save points and MON builds from the back. Something to ponder about. Cheers for the reply.

in the four game window between gw24 and 27 stoke have 3 home games against sunderland, swansea and norwich. walters is the obvious one, etherington however could be a nice little differential with or without walters

He'll play 80% of the remaining fixtures.

The problem is the ones he could be dropped for will be the home bankers e.g. Bolton and Blackburn

    Mignolet and Vorm

with defence of: Shotton Senderos Richards Enrique Simpson.

My preferred choice would be Sorensen and Schwarzer but I don't want to do 2 double ups

    Thoughts?
