Watchlist

The Watchlist – Nikica Jelavic

Prior to his arrival at Goodison last January, there were plenty who questioned whether Nikica Jelavic could produce the goods in the Premier League. The Croatian’s superb scoring record for Glasgow Rangers was dismissed by cynics, who deemed the level of Scottish top-flight competition far too lightweight to judge a player’s real potential. Fast forward four months and Jelavic’s Everton record of nine goals from 13 appearances was proof enough that David Moyes, finally, had found a first-class finisher to lead the line for the Merseysiders:

Steven Pienaar’s loan return for the second half of last season also proved critical. With the South African’s left flank understanding with Leighton Baines producing a potent source of creativity which Jelavic was all too happy to feed upon, the Toffees customary climb up the table earned them a seventh place finish. As the lone frontman in Moyes’ favoured 4-5-1, Jelavic, from just 10 starts, had returned 11 bonus points in addition to those nine goals in the Fantasy Premier League games and accrued 69 points; a clear indication of his Fantasy potential.

With Pienaar back on a permanent basis and Marouane Fellaini terrorising defences in support of Jelavic up top, Everton have already beaten United and eased past Villa before succumbing to West Brom at the Hawthorns last weekend. While the midfielders have picked up plenty of suitors thanks to their eye-catching performances, Jelavic has crept under the radar somewhat, despite getting off the mark in the Gameweek 2 win at Villa Park.

In part, it’s down to Robin Van Persie and Carlos Tevez. With FPL managers desperate to install both in their frontlines, the need for a cut-price forward to balance the budget means 8.5 priced Jelavic currently has just 10% ownership. In the Sky Sports game, it’s another matter entirely, though – with just 30 transfers to make over the season, the Croatian is fourth most popular forward thus far – a real show of faith in his consistency.

Moyes will be keen to bounce back from the Baggies loss and, looking at the fixture ticker, Everton have a superb run of fixtures on their agenda over the next couple of months to profit from. Between now and Gameweek 13, Jelavic will welcome (NEW, SOT, LIV, SUN, NOR) to Goodison and with Baines’ creativity, in particular, a real stand out feature of the Toffees play right now, the Croatian could well be in line to rack up the goals and offer a viable value alternative to those brave enough to overlook the services of the free-scoring Manchester duo.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Feel free to rate my team out of 10 folks!

    DDG (Green)

    Gallas A.Williams Jenks (Saylor Cuellar)

    Hazardous Bale Nolan Michu (Guthrie)

    Graham RVP (c) Tevez (vc)

Have already done McClean to Nolan!
Any may lose patience with Bale to bring in HBA or Cazorla for a 4 pint hit!!

Not loving the defence, and Nolan will miss not having big Andy nodding the ball down to him.

Like the faith in Bale, though. Class is permanent and all dat.

Nolan didn't have Big Andy for the first game either, Yet he got a goal and an assist. I don't get why not having Carrol would make a huge difference to West Ham when they only played him for one game.

Just my opinion - he's a better shout with Carroll in the team. Let's face it, Nolan is a fairly ordinary footballer.

Yeah i know my defense is a bit lightweight but with CS at a premium i think DDG Gallas and Jenks have as good a chance as anyone...providing they all play!!

I might lose faith in Bale yet but surely he is due a big game so i'm probably gonna stick with him!!

He is Andy Carroll after all and they will probably be better off without him 🙂

I remember couple of seasons ago Carroll was the best budget striker to have. Is he really that bad or have Liverpool utilized him badly. I for one thought he was above average for West Ham in his first game...

I think you are approaching it in the wrong way.

      "Coverage" a myth imo
"Not doubling up" a myth imo, unless we are talking defenders, then you should be a bit carefull

You should ask, how does your team look, which of your top5 (or so) transfer targets would fill which whole the best, is there anyone of them I MUST have now?

Just to clarify the Ben Davies left-back situation at Swansea - Swansea submitted a squad with three spaces left to sign free agents, and free agents can be signed at any time, so they can sign another left back to compete with Davies.

Used my FT to do Bale to Haz, what would you do to my team over the coming weeks, currently 23,000th..

    Friedel Federici

    Hangeland Lescott Rangel Demel Barnett

    Kagawa Hazard Michu Noble Yaya

    RVP Pog Tevez

Need to prioritise but not sure atm. First thoughts are get out Lescott and Friedel if they don't start picking up CS's. Would use money to upgrade Barnett, don't know what I was thinking with that one, seemed tight at the back in pre-season.

Do I need some Everton or Newcastle coverage??

Keep Pog as he is cheap?

He was never the first choice for Chelsea. He came in for Ramires when he was injured and did play another game because Ramires wasn't impressive. Now with Oscar, Ramires and Moses hanging around, he isn't likely to continue in the midfield..

If you are considering an A or B type question, bear in mind that if one option has more FFS darlings in it than the other then that one will get picked. This week's FFS darlings are...

    Baines
    Ridgewell
    Cazorla
    Hazard
    Lambert
    Fletcher
    RVP
    Tevez

Please note that the darlings are subject to change on a gameweekly basis

Madness. Brad will very likely start at RDG, Bale will defo (bar injuries) and has big points potential. Torres finally found form and you want to ditch. Unbelievable.

Frivolous with point hits will get your ranking shooting higher in no time, in a bad way. Just my t'penny worth.

That is reasonable. I'm in the same boat, he looks good for RDG, maybe QPR but Lloris must surely come in sooner or later. Forster, Howard, Vorm all close on fixs, so Foster's cheaper price would poss swing me.

Personally, I'm seriously looking at maintaining my Brad/Feddy duo for another 3 GWs, then get Chesney for Brad.

          All the best.

I'm ready to upgrade a midfielder (possibly noble or guthrie) with that .5. I've waited long enough on Torres and Bale so the way I see it I'm in for some big points in the future.

            Any decently priced midfielder options?

Not really, unless you want Maloney. All the mids we discussed last night are great for mid price.

Take a look at my team, I'm extremely happy with what I have. More than any of these WC teams. Just have to get rid of Zabaleta and Marveaux.

I'm fairly happy with my team too considering the fact I didn't have to use a wildcard to get it. Wearing my shoes for a moment, what would you do to my team if you were in charge?

Could you link your team please? Go to the FAQ

If you've made the changes we discussed last night

                  Bale + Torres > RVP + Morrison.

                  That's all I would do.

Yeah, everyone let's get the same keepers. Jussi is good though. I just don't think he needs to use his transfer on defense when Friedel is going to start for sure. Norwich can score goals too...

If everyone here would have been on WC on the same time, assuming there are thousand in this forum and most have "wife, "brother", "dog" teams too, we could make lots of money.
this is a simple plan that requires 68,000 teams (....yes i know...but listen)
Step 1 - 50% of the teams buy the same 15 players - to generate 0.1 raise.
step 2 - the other 50% teams buy the same players the next week.
step 3 - day 3 - everyone sells those players and buy 15 very popular other players.

on day 4 we repeat the process but changing teh order of groups.
this way, every 6 days, everyone makes 0.1*15. on a international break you can make 3M per player 🙂

    ok probably silly plan...

now, if you have 34,000 real teams, and 34,000 "brother" teams - each real team can make 6m 🙂
