The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Tuesday

Sunderland seal a crucial win over Reading to drag themselves out of the drop zone. James McClean and Steven Fletcher grab the first-half goals, while Stephane Sessegnon leaves his Fantasy owners frantic before finally slotting home a late third.

On the Up

Stephane Sessegnon
Over 68,000 FPL managers drafted in the Benin international prior to the double Gameweek deadline – Steven Fletcher, Adam Johnson and James McClean had a combined tally of around 36,000. With seconds to go, we were cursing our luck as it seemed he was to disappoint but Sessegnon duly delivered to put a smile on plenty Fantasy managers’ faces. With United, City, Spurs and Liverpool in his next five, though, many will be already planning an exit.

Steven Fletcher
Martin O’Neill was particularly cagey over the forward’s chances of starting tonight after his recent ankle injury. Fletcher missed out against Chelsea at the weekend but managed to shrug off the problem to notch his seventh strike of the season. Now up to 74 points in FPL, he’s ahead of the likes of Wayne Rooney but the above-mentioned run of upcoming fixtures is likely to deter many more from investing.

Adam Johnson
The former City man benefitted from an “FPL” assist earlier this evening. A corner from Johnson was cleared by the visitors defence but only as far as James McClean – the winger’s converted attempt boosted his fellow wide man’s double Gameweek haul. Johnson has now produced attacking returns in five of his last seven appearances, though his owners were denied the chance of further points after he was subbed off at half-time with a leg problem.

James McClean
Prior to the double Gameweek, the winger had managed a single assist all season and had started just two of Sunderland’s previous six. Having provided an assist for Adam Johnson’s consolation against Chelsea at the weekend, he needed just one minute to open his account for the season and suggest he’s starting to come into form after a poor first half of the campaign.

Going Down

Kaspars Gorkss
As expected, Sean Morrison failed to recover from the ankle injury sustained against Southampton last weekend. Surprisingly, though, it was Alex Pearce who was given the nod to start alongside Adrian Mariappa, suggesting the Latvian has slipped even further down the pecking order for a spot at centre-half.

Phil Bardsley
Having started the previous six, his place at right-back seemed assured since recovering from a hamstring injury. It was something of a surprise, then, to see Bardsley dropped to the bench, with Craig Gardner preferred at right-back instead. He came on after the break to replace the injured Johnson but lasted just 31 minutes before limping off injured.

Sunderland Injuries
Martin O’Neill has plenty concerns ahead of the weekend trip to United. Danny Rose joined Johnson and Bardsley in limping off – in a defensive reshuffle, Carlos Cuellar finished the match at right-back as Titus Bramble entered the fray at centre-half. If the injuries are carried into the weekend, Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney owners will be even more confident of returns.

Shorey/Nelson/Davies. Take your pick. Shorey is second to Baines in chances/crosses for a defender. He is surrounded by trash though, much like the other options. QPR will start doing well soon, Harry's effect will come off. Davies because he has an abundance of options to cross to and choose to score through him.

        Shorey seems a good pick.....so does Davies....and Nelson....arrrggghhh.

Nelsen appeals to me because I feel QPR are going to get a few surprise CS...but that's just a silly hunch I have really. Maybe a West Ham defender?

        Nice one Cuellar!

I have Jussi and I'm getting rid of Reid, so I not looking for another WHM defender.

        Hmmm, QPR.

I've been trying to get Davies back on my team for a while now but other business comes up every week

Wham without diame might suffer a bit but one of their defenders should be good for a few cleanies once in a while just annoying not having em nailed apart from o'brian

shorey has great stats but don't like relying on a defender for attacking points

davies/clyne/nailed wham defender/jose/shorey would be what id go for with cheapies

Opinions on my team for the coming few GW’s please.

    Bego
    Rafa Enrique Shorey
    Bale Caz Fell Taarabt
    Ba RVP Fletch

    Rudd, Sterling, Nelsen, Cuellar

Transferring out Fletch to Berba this week. Just waiting for any future price changes as neither are at risk of rising/falling at the moment.
Next week looking to move either Taarabt > Michu unless Michu picks up his yellow. In which case I save the transfer and do Ba > Torres with the Michu transfer the 2FT after.

I don’t really care for overall rank but I have seem to be doing well. I would just like to win my ML.

In this case it's a joke, the joke being that Foster is injured so I've played Bego every week and never missed his cleanies while Foster has been out!

Rotation is choosing players with fixtures that match, such that if you pick 1 of them each week, you get good fixtures most of the time.

Seems silly that a guy owned by 40% of teams can be a differential but all the ghost teams have him still and all the teams i compete with dont.

OK how does -4pt A. Williams -> Davies and then Fletcher -> Defoe look/sound/feel?

I understand a -4 for a lateral defender move is borderline nutso, even if I'm doing it fund a move up front, however, it should be known that I play in a monthly H2H for high end beers. I'm 23pts up on the month.

    Thoughts please.

Baines & Giroud to Rooney & £4.4m def for -4?

No United coverage and I think Rooney will see the most game out of the United strikers over Christmas as before their last CL game Fergie said he was playing him as he wasn't long back from injury and he needs plenty of games to get fully fit.

I also noticed Baines didn't try as many runs forward v Spurs and from reading some ITK Everton fan thoughts, he has a couple of niggles and playing within himself a touch at present to protect himself.

    Dear Suarez

Feck you! I'm not going to buy you in because I can't possibly sell Berbatov or Ba when both are due and when Berbatov has good fixtures and Ba has scored more points and offers more value. Villa have the most improved defenses of late and I can't see you getting as much as you think you'll get.

Honestly tell me, what forwards would you rather have for this GW other than

          RVP/Rooney - Suarez - Defoe/Berbatov

There are only a limited number of strikers on some sort of form, Suarez has the best fixtures and just recently was on an incredible scoring run. All the other in form options either have a blank, tough fixtures, or off form.

Thing is, in the last 4 matches they've had some of the least testing opponents. Their three cs all came at home (they play away to Pool) against Stoke, Reading and Arsenal, and as a Gooner I need not justify our attack being in that league. Good attacks have still steamrollered them, 5 goals, 4, 3...

Evening DZers. Was sick to the stomach about having Clyne and Rafa on my bench, but a last gasp Sess goal from a Cuellar assist reignited my FPL fires.

Is it worth bringing in someone for Sess this weekend, or just roll with:

    Fell, Sterling, Michu, Silva
    RVP, Berbs, Suarez

Thinking of saving my FT or replacing Cuellar with it.

I'm puzzled by this line from the guardian match report tonight...

'At least O'Neill had Danny Rose on his side. Controversially selected at left-back rather than in central midfield, the versatile, highly talented Tottenham loanee surged forward before crossing towards Steven Fletcher's feet.'

He's been playing LB all season, not once has he been CM 😐
