The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Tuesday

Sunderland seal a crucial win over Reading to drag themselves out of the drop zone. James McClean and Steven Fletcher grab the first-half goals, while Stephane Sessegnon leaves his Fantasy owners frantic before finally slotting home a late third.

On the Up

Stephane Sessegnon
Over 68,000 FPL managers drafted in the Benin international prior to the double Gameweek deadline – Steven Fletcher, Adam Johnson and James McClean had a combined tally of around 36,000. With seconds to go, we were cursing our luck as it seemed he was to disappoint but Sessegnon duly delivered to put a smile on plenty Fantasy managers’ faces. With United, City, Spurs and Liverpool in his next five, though, many will be already planning an exit.

Steven Fletcher
Martin O’Neill was particularly cagey over the forward’s chances of starting tonight after his recent ankle injury. Fletcher missed out against Chelsea at the weekend but managed to shrug off the problem to notch his seventh strike of the season. Now up to 74 points in FPL, he’s ahead of the likes of Wayne Rooney but the above-mentioned run of upcoming fixtures is likely to deter many more from investing.

Adam Johnson
The former City man benefitted from an “FPL” assist earlier this evening. A corner from Johnson was cleared by the visitors defence but only as far as James McClean – the winger’s converted attempt boosted his fellow wide man’s double Gameweek haul. Johnson has now produced attacking returns in five of his last seven appearances, though his owners were denied the chance of further points after he was subbed off at half-time with a leg problem.

James McClean
Prior to the double Gameweek, the winger had managed a single assist all season and had started just two of Sunderland’s previous six. Having provided an assist for Adam Johnson’s consolation against Chelsea at the weekend, he needed just one minute to open his account for the season and suggest he’s starting to come into form after a poor first half of the campaign.

Going Down

Kaspars Gorkss
As expected, Sean Morrison failed to recover from the ankle injury sustained against Southampton last weekend. Surprisingly, though, it was Alex Pearce who was given the nod to start alongside Adrian Mariappa, suggesting the Latvian has slipped even further down the pecking order for a spot at centre-half.

Phil Bardsley
Having started the previous six, his place at right-back seemed assured since recovering from a hamstring injury. It was something of a surprise, then, to see Bardsley dropped to the bench, with Craig Gardner preferred at right-back instead. He came on after the break to replace the injured Johnson but lasted just 31 minutes before limping off injured.

Sunderland Injuries
Martin O’Neill has plenty concerns ahead of the weekend trip to United. Danny Rose joined Johnson and Bardsley in limping off – in a defensive reshuffle, Carlos Cuellar finished the match at right-back as Titus Bramble entered the fray at centre-half. If the injuries are carried into the weekend, Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney owners will be even more confident of returns.

Oh feck. I've just noticed Liverpool have had the most shots and shots from inside the box over the last 4 games out of the whole premier league. Thats more than Fulham and Newcastle combined. Looks like I might have to sell Ba or Berbatov 😕

What you said earlier made sense...it's worth not owning Suarez against Villa because if he fails you can then buy him at a cheaper price when everyone gets angry and sells.

But if he succeeds I'll look like a fool especially with keeping Ba for the Citeh game. Its better to think about the next 5 or so games of fixtures

I have both ba & berba also... I think in the long run they're better value than suarez. But suarez could easily notch 20 points morre than them over the next 2 games. Thinkits oingto be a caase of not getting suarez & clenching the butt cheeks for 2 games hoping his finishing is erratic!

Yeah thats it. I fear Suarez could do very well in the next few weeks. He might be worth having between now and the january WC. I could probably get away with not needing Berbatov or Ba for the next 5 or so games.

And in one they scored 0 goals, and in two others they scored 1. I'd be wary with Liverpool. They're a team that love to raise expectations and then disappoint FPL managers...

Giggsy, the Rafa hysteria was mad. Last week he's worth a 4 point hit to a Reading defender. This week he's the best/most nailed-on Man Utd defender and a ASSISTS GOD

DGW madness. Rafa has some of the best attacking potential across all defenders. I keep him in the hope that United will start getting CSs; but even so, with the amount of goals United score, he seems to be getting attacking points every game.

Isn't it annoying that it looks like pretty much everyone's midfield will consist of fellaini, michu, puncheon and/or sterling... I wish there was a bigger pool of consistent players.

Seems like there are more options this season than last imo. Maybe I'm crazy. I'm keeping an eye on Pilkington, P. Hernandez and Snodgrass. The three you mentioned are solid, and I have them. Near impossible to ignore. Might do Sterling > Puncheon in January.

I wish they would have the recovered balls points like in UCL. That would add another dimension to the game, and would give a bigger variety since you could pick up CDMs

This is as big as the pool of players get......I don't think I have seen a more diverse collection in a long time.

You have around 10 midfields which I reckon can come good any week - Fellaini, Michu, Puncheon, Sterling, Snodgrass, Bale, Mata, Cazorla, Nolan, Silva

i had to go and teach a lesson so only just got back to see these replies.

Yes that list of ten are all option but i don't see a reason to take out fellaini and michu, ever. I guess with the other guys a number of them are sub-7mil and hence benchable so it is always possible to have a rotating pair of bench possibilities.

It has been puncheon-sterling for me recently, but I may find someone else to rotate with puncheon after the wildcard.

Well a lot have those 3/4 because they're relatively cheap and have been producing well...Nolan is another great option in that price bracket, while Snodgrass has been doing well too.

There's a great selection in the big hitters category as well--Mata, Bale, Silva, Cazorla...

Seems like a lot of great options to me!

Actually you're right, the pool of potential picks is big - I worded it all wrong.

What I meant is there are a few 'must haves' - we must have michu and fellaini right now, or we risk getting cast adrift by their consistent returns and high ownership.

We also 'must have' a bench player (in my case i like to have two who rotate, otherwise it seems a waste to have someone like puncheon on the bench every week)

so this leaves 1 or at most 2 spaces left. Right now I have cazorla because i believe the combination of undoubted quality and great fixtures has to come good. This means while there is a big pool of other possibilities, it's not really possible to get them into the team.

not a member just looking for opinions. feels like a wasted transfer to do RVP to Rooney, but those extra funds and the fact Rooney is on Pens and in just as good of form as RVP make it almost a no brainer. Only thing stopping me is RVP further forward but not sure that is even going to matter at this point...

Well I haven't owned RVP since GW 6 and have had Rooney for the last 4-5 GWs, so it's easy for me to say Rooney. But I would definitely be thinking about downgrading RVP for Rooney. His returns have diminished of late and at that price, he is not worth keeping, imo.

Too expensive for his inconsistent performance. You can also count Tevez. Im sure after the derby game Mancini will use tevez constantly because He almost changed the game.

    Bego, Tremmel
    Gallas, Cuellar, Hughes, Demel, Gorkss(!)

I want to potentially remove 1-2 players marked with (!) this week.

Thinking Sess+Gorkss. 3.2 banked so that leaves 14.6 for the 2 slots.

I’m in urgent need of help. My rank has dropped from 8,999 in GW 11 to 177,068 in GW 16.

I currently have the following team for GW 17:
    Begovic
    Caulker – Enrique – McAuley – Reid
    Sterling – Fellaini – Silva
    Suarez – Berbatov – RvP
    Subs: Foster, Shorey, Bale, Puncheon

1 FT and 1,5 mil in the bank.

I’m really tempted to bring in Michu, don’t really know why I have waited this long. But who should I ditch? Silva has really good fixtures coming up, as has Bale.

Or should I focus on losing some of my Liverpool coverage?

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

This site went mental last night after sess goal:D...ppl wetting their pants...that goal changed my entire fantasy season...went from a 350k rank before the game to 150k.

Now that i am feeling enthusiastic about fantasy again, need some help.

    Begovic (mannone)
    rafael enrique demel (davies cueller)
    michu fellaini cazorla sterling (sess)
    rvp berba fletch

have 1FT and 4m. So my defense is horrid as rafael, enrique and demel may not feature due to injury and rotation...AND i need to get rid of fletch and sess....how should i proceed?

A: Do fletch >> suarez/tevez...as my 4 mids are fine

B: Do sess >> bale...will then 3-5-2 with fletch on the bench

C: Do fletch + sess >> suarez + nolan/lennon...or bale + giroud..this would be for a hit and not to keen on this as then i will have the tough decision who to bench from my front 8

D: just do cueller >> any def and start him ahead of demel...will keep fletch in the playing 11 then

E: do fletch + cueller for a hit...to any combo

    Thoughts?

Agree, keeping Fletcher, he won't fall much more now and I am not convinced to spend a transfer and go for any of the other possible 3rd strikers like Ba, Giroud, Defoe, Long, Berba or Holt.

Feel the chance for playing every match and having a goal no and then is the same for Fletcher as for the mentioned, and Fletcher is a bps magnet, on top with 18 together with RvP and Ba.
