The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Tuesday

Sunderland seal a crucial win over Reading to drag themselves out of the drop zone. James McClean and Steven Fletcher grab the first-half goals, while Stephane Sessegnon leaves his Fantasy owners frantic before finally slotting home a late third.

On the Up

Stephane Sessegnon
Over 68,000 FPL managers drafted in the Benin international prior to the double Gameweek deadline – Steven Fletcher, Adam Johnson and James McClean had a combined tally of around 36,000. With seconds to go, we were cursing our luck as it seemed he was to disappoint but Sessegnon duly delivered to put a smile on plenty Fantasy managers’ faces. With United, City, Spurs and Liverpool in his next five, though, many will be already planning an exit.

Steven Fletcher
Martin O’Neill was particularly cagey over the forward’s chances of starting tonight after his recent ankle injury. Fletcher missed out against Chelsea at the weekend but managed to shrug off the problem to notch his seventh strike of the season. Now up to 74 points in FPL, he’s ahead of the likes of Wayne Rooney but the above-mentioned run of upcoming fixtures is likely to deter many more from investing.

Adam Johnson
The former City man benefitted from an “FPL” assist earlier this evening. A corner from Johnson was cleared by the visitors defence but only as far as James McClean – the winger’s converted attempt boosted his fellow wide man’s double Gameweek haul. Johnson has now produced attacking returns in five of his last seven appearances, though his owners were denied the chance of further points after he was subbed off at half-time with a leg problem.

James McClean
Prior to the double Gameweek, the winger had managed a single assist all season and had started just two of Sunderland’s previous six. Having provided an assist for Adam Johnson’s consolation against Chelsea at the weekend, he needed just one minute to open his account for the season and suggest he’s starting to come into form after a poor first half of the campaign.

Going Down

Kaspars Gorkss
As expected, Sean Morrison failed to recover from the ankle injury sustained against Southampton last weekend. Surprisingly, though, it was Alex Pearce who was given the nod to start alongside Adrian Mariappa, suggesting the Latvian has slipped even further down the pecking order for a spot at centre-half.

Phil Bardsley
Having started the previous six, his place at right-back seemed assured since recovering from a hamstring injury. It was something of a surprise, then, to see Bardsley dropped to the bench, with Craig Gardner preferred at right-back instead. He came on after the break to replace the injured Johnson but lasted just 31 minutes before limping off injured.

Sunderland Injuries
Martin O’Neill has plenty concerns ahead of the weekend trip to United. Danny Rose joined Johnson and Bardsley in limping off – in a defensive reshuffle, Carlos Cuellar finished the match at right-back as Titus Bramble entered the fray at centre-half. If the injuries are carried into the weekend, Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney owners will be even more confident of returns.

Don't see why you shouldn't. But then again, this is what I tell all my buddies who try and get both. You wouldnt know how to captain and probably end up captaining the wrong one each time.

Rooney's been the best pick for the last two weeks - but that's not to say he'll make it three in a row. RVP is the 'safer' option as that's who most people will captain - depends on whether you want to be safe or ballsy.

Good old Sess proper dug me out of a hole, up to 269th overall!
    Bego, Jussi
    Enrique, Caulker, Wisdom, Davies, Rafa
    Fellaini, Michu, Sess, Cazorla, Sterling
    RVP, Tevez, Fletch

so what do i do this week folks? have 1FT and 2.3 in bank. Should I wait and see if Bale is fit abd do Sess > Bale?
    or do fletch > Defoe?
or do Fletch to Berb allowing me to do Sess > Bale next week?

Ended up with 59 which, while a red arrow, isn't too shabby. Thank you Carlos Cuellar!

This week, thinking of just doing Gorkss > Bassong, leaving me with

    Begovic (Jaaskalainen)
    Enrique/Demel/Bassong (Davies/Cuellar)
    Nolan/Sterling/Michu/Fellaini (Mata)
    RVP (c)/Giroud/Suarez

Bit worried about not having any Spurs players, and Giroud and Enrique are both injury doubts. Any other suggestions?

I'm tossing my mind with what seems a really trivial decision...which is the better replacement for Gorkss?

    a) Gorkss > Nelsen (sun)
    or
    b) Gorkss > Davies (tot)

Either of which is likely to play next week since Bale will most prob still be injured

    Current setup:

    Begovic (Tremmel)
    Rafael Gibbs Enrique (Cuellar Gorkss)
    Sterling Michu Santi Bale (Mata)
    RVP Berba Tevez

Just to round off yesterday's Rooney+RVP front two as oppose to a combination of any other two...Currently Man U on 40 goals...10 higher than City...18 higher than Liverpool....11 higher than Suprs etc etc.....What that really means in stats is that Rooney and RVP have the opportunity to share points from a total of 80 assists and goals whereas a comination of say RVP and Defoe (for example)only have the opportunity to share in a lesser number of goals and assists...Surely the right way to decide is to work out which combination will be sharing the highes number of FPL opportunities...It matter's not a jot which team they play for...

Getting both is no bad thing (was shit when I did it, but if I'd held on it would've been pretty darn good), but, also, the difference between Rooney & Defoe is £3.5m. It's not just a comparison between two individual players, it's what the extra cash available could do for the rest of your team too.

      I wouldn't say "it matter's not a jot".

To get both ties up a lot of cash and puts a lot of risk in the fact Man U will share the goals evenly up front.

Defo comes down to whether you want Arsenal coverage....

      Begovic / Federici
Jose Enrique / Demel / Cuellar / Clyne / Shorey
      Fellaini / Mata / Sessegnon / Michu / Sterling
Van Persie / Fletcher / Suarez

1 FT, £3.7m in the bank.

I can afford Sess + Fletcher > Bale + Defoe, but leaves me with no Arsenal. It's a tough one, but personally I think Bale is more important than Santi / Walcott, and Defoe currently a fair better pick than Giroud.

And most importnant issue is to shed yourself of the Sunderland contingeny (or at least 2 of 'em) and probably Rangel aswell; Jones also not looking too nailed on, so that too.

Balanced. But I now vary between high and medium effort, as I have got the average stamina over 70.

You need to make three subs with high, to minimise injuries.

I prefer to save my WC for the big DGW, ideally with several big teams involved.

At the end of last season where there was a big DGW due to FA Cup semi-finals, lots of folks here scored 150-200 with WC...

Feels awesome when all of your starting XI play two games in one GW

    Me: Jussi
    Garrido Cameron Enrique
    Dempsey Michu Fellaini Silva
    RVP (C) Berba Suarez
    2.0 in the bank

    Him: Mignolet/Krul
Shawcross Sagna Cuellar (Ridgewell and McCartney out)
Bale Fellaini Michu Walcott (Punchy out)
    Tevez Fletcher Ba

My guess is one of his forwards will become RVP or Suarez this week. How do I get back in front? 29 points he got in last night's game. Madness.

He could very well go for Rooney (alot of the cool kids seem to be doing it) so yoiur RVP(c) could become the differential you need. That said if he's a protective leader then he'll more than likely do the RVP or Suarez route

I got 135 last season one week which by far the best score I've had in all the years of playing. Probably only a couple of times I've ever broken the 100 mark to be fair.

Thoughts on Tevez people? He is the third highest scorer on the game and 30pts ahead of anyone else on his team even though he is a 'rotation risk'. He played 30 minutes against Man Utd and gets 2 assists. He's also only 9.4 million. He's maybe not a captain choice just yet, but surely there's no one else even worth consideration from Man City at the moment.

I think Mancini has lost the plot and it's putting people off...He should be the highest FPL player of all...even higher than RVP but i bet he must have played about three games less than RVP in minutes..It's stupid...!!

I really really need to sort my defence out as my only two guaranteed defenders this week are Cuellar (mun) and Simpson (MCI). I also have Enrique, Gorkss and Clyne.

I'm going to take out Gorkss and Cuellar but not sure who for. I have 4.9m in the bank.

I'm thinking of putting in Vertonghen or Caulker as Tottenham have a good run but really don't know who else. I'm thinking of a cheap defender around 4.5m?

Any help would be great. thanks.

Not getting the Tot Defenders love - I know Caulker is cheap, but how many C/S have they had? And not only that, they are so frustrating coz they seem to keep it clean til late in the game but always seem to conceed.

Nastasic looks like a good mid priced, play him every week player at minute. I'd also get a Stokey in there, even if you do have Bego

Plenty of cash in the bank ... Rafael would tempt me ... I'd probably just do Gorkss --> Caulker though, then start Caulker / Enrique / Simpson and hope that they all play ... should be ok I reckon. Failing that, West Brom have a couple of OK fixtures - would be tempted by McAuley/Olsson despite recent leaky defence.

      Certainly wouldn't take a hit.

No offence to Arsenal, but they are the kind of team where his pleas for playing in the middle have credibility. Man Utd are vying for the title, are a far bigger club and actually win things. To play under Fergie and along side RVP and Rooney will more than make up for not playing in his favoured position. Also the Man Utd front players are often very fluid and their interplay is far better.

    Begovic
    Vermaelen-Nastasic-Nelsen

Thank you fletcher, thanks so much ! But i need to change you for suarez, which leaves me with this:

    Begovic
    Rafael, Nastasic, Enrique
    Sterling, Santi Cazorla, Michu, Fellaini
Suarez (C), Van Persie (VC), Tevez

    Sub: Cerny, Nelsen, Cuellar, Guthrie
Fletcher > Suarez (C) will be my -4 hit, which leaves me 3.4 in the bank
