The Fantasy Flutter with Paddy Power – Gameweek 22

A run of victories for Paddy Power before the Christmas break finds us going into 2013 with a small deficit to chase. Having taken a flutter sabbatical over Christmas, we’re now back and invigorated, determined to claw back the few quid lost. Let’s see what Scout Pick inspired selection Paddy has dealt us for Gameweeek 22…

Chelsea’s double Gameweek crown jewels have been turning heads ever since their extra fixture with Southampton was announced and none shine so bright as Demba Ba. The new arrival at the Bridge was given a run-out at St Mary’s in the FA Cup and duly delivered a brace to spell it out – he’s not arrived to sit on the bench and watch Fernando Torres miss chances. Having been preserved for the midweek Capital One cup defeat to Swansea, there’s every chance that Ba will start at Stoke this weekend. Paddy are offering 11/4 on a Ba goal packaged with a Chelsea clean sheet and we’ll take that as our top bet, throwing down £4 to back Ba and Rafa Benitez’s boys.

Gareth Bale’s form is somewhat irresistible right now. De-railed only by the suspension which saw him miss the 3-1 win over Reading, the Bale express is back on the tracks with the QPR defence in his sights. Having seen Luis Suarez tear apart the R’s back four in the last Loftus Road outing, Bale owners will be fancying a haul from the Welshman, despite QPR’s stoic performance at Stamford Bridge last time out. Paddy have Bale to score with a Spurs clean sheet at 4/1 and we’ll take that for a couple of quid.

Our final single market bet involves another goalscoring midfielder back from suspension. Everton’s Marouane Fellaini has been a Fantasy all-star this term and looks set to earn his place in our team of the season. While there’s mounting speculation surrounding his future at Goodison, he’ll be in the Everton lineup to face Swansea and will carry a major threat to a side that is often troubled by an aerial ball and set-piece. A Fellaini goal looks good, although having conceded in each of their last 15, backing the clean sheet is a brave move. Nevertheless, we’ll put another £2 on Paddy’s odds of 10/3 on a Fellaini goal with an Everton shut-out against the Swans.

Our final two quid is reserved for the weekly treble, with Paddy offering 14/1 on a Robin Van Persie goal against Liverpool, a Juan Mata assist at Stoke and a Sunderland clean sheet at home to West Ham. It’s no guts, no glory, as we empty our stake money and hope for the stars to align on this one.

Register and Bet £10 And Get £20 Free

If you’re new to Paddy Power, then you can take up any of these odds and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register an account and bet a tenner.

Finally of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. Also, if you’re going to bet, always gamble responsibly.

Reasons I think I'm going for Mata (c) over Ba

    a) He has been on spectacular form this season...surely you should back him over 2 games.
    b) You'd think it'd be a no brainer to captain Ba in a DGW...but I think with the uncertainty I'm willing to take what I get from it.
    c) Mata does not have a direct rival (Ba vs Torres) that is competing for minutes. Hazard isn't seen as a readymade replacement for Mata nor is Oscar (Rafa doesn't really fancy him) and Marin is too young and inexperienced to be trusted...and Ramires is expected to play further back. I also don't see Lampard filling in for Mata. And with Moses away at the ACON you aren't left with much options.
To sum it up, I'd be simply baffled if Mata didn't play both games.

Anyway, sorry for the rant...just needed to clarify my thoughts.

It feels wrong not captaining him in a DGW...but it seems like such a leap of faith to captain him when he has yet to start a premier league game for them...right?

Although the team 'Rival' is correct in its usage anyone with eyes and a brain can see that Torres should never start games ahead of Ba. I'm gonna assume Rafa has both and will do whats right

I'm optimistic about Ba's playing time too...but it's whether I want the stress of a Torres start in one of the games...not sure if I do. Mata is so important to the side I'd feel a little less stressed.

yeah Mata should start both games as they seem pretty bad without him. I think Ba has slightly more upside if he doesn start both and I need any edge I can get right now.

Mata aill play, as will Ba. The question is, how many minutes? Best case scenario is they both start both games and get subbed at 60, IMO. Which makes Ba over Mata (C) a no-brainer really.

i dont have a clue who anderson is.....you plan to play ming untill end of the season?

i like gaston punt only if he will be replaced for likes of cole or nolan

other than that looks very good

dont worry for not having Afro cause he is overrated anyways (fpl wise) and with anichebe showing some form i can't see him having great 2nd half of the season

3.9M keeper. Mignolet has good fixtures until GW 31 and i have another wc safe in the backpocket.

Afro is a gamble, he's not overrated, i am just gambling on Anichebe showing some form.

Given a fair trial I think it is fair to say that the 5 man midfield most are going with will prove to be successful...

I am however, slightly concerned that it will not reap immediate benefits this week... slight doubts over Michu and Fellaini playing... Fellaini should get at least an assist if he plays... Walcott will do well to get anything higher that 2 pts... anything less that 10 from Mata will be disappointing... leaving Bale, I have no idea how this one will play out... he'll either score 13pts or he'll score 2pts...

20pts from this midfield would be a disaster this week...
