Watchlist

The Watchlist – Jonny Evans

It’s not been the most straightforward of seasons for United’s Jonny Evans. Four times the centre-half has been sidelined now, with ankle, leg, groin and hamstring problems curtailing his game time over the course of the campaign – as a result, the most he’s managed is six consecutive league starts thus far.

Nevertheless, Evans’ presence in the United back-four has been significant. The league leaders have managed one clean sheet in the 10 games without the Northern Ireland international in their first XI – with Evans in the starting line-up, they have registered five clean sheets in 16 games by comparison.

Factor in three goals, a pair of assists and nine Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points and Evans has racked up 81 points – an average of 4.8 points per game, which is exactly the same as Patrice Evra and superior to Rafael’s 4.1. Indeed, this is joint-top for regular defenders overall, equalling Jose Enrique, with the likes of Leighton Baines and Branislav Ivanovic just behind on 4.6 and 4.4 respectively.

Providing he can now remain injury-free, Evans looks set to be key to Sir Alex Ferguson’s side over the remainder of the season. Over the last few days, the United boss has lavished praise upon the centre-half and suggested Evans’ game will continue to develop with the aid of regular appearances. Ferguson hinted that a fully-fit Evans is likely to afford him the chance to alternate Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand at centre-half as United also juggle FA Cup and Champions League commitments.

“Jonny is only 25 but he’s emerged in the last year as a real top defender. His form has been fantastic. If you can get consistency off young players you are on the right track and Jonny has shown great consistency in the last year. Last season it wasn’t until Ferdinand and Evans played regularly that we got a run going.”

Considering United’s midfield have failed to step up as Fantasy options this season, investment in defence could well appeal ahead of a run of games which affords the chance to consolidate their 12 point lead at the summit. Norwich and Reading roll up to Old Trafford over the next five and with trips to QPR, West Ham and Sunderland also on their agenda, faith in their Fantasy assets could extend beyond their free-scoring frontmen.

Coming in at 5.6 in FPL and 7.5 in the Sky Sports game, Evans is significantly cheaper than Evra’s 7.3 in FPL and also sets you back less than Rafael, at 6.0. An ownership of 1% offers a real differential route into a backline that has now registered four back-to-back clean sheets with the centre-half in their ranks – an indication of just why Ferguson sees Evans’ contribution as crucial to his side’s chances of wrestling back the title from City.

Ah I now see what you mean - yep I like Utd's fixtures, I just meant that with Azpi and Zab having tough fixtures this week they recede slightly in the reckoning whereas if I were making the transfer next week I'd need to look at Azpi a bit more closely as I think the fix are pretty comparable.

If you take a hit for Sissoko then he'll have to get an assist just for you to get the pts back. Its not essential having 11 players if the 10 you have score well.

This is a very important point. Too many people when assessing hits only consider the GW of the trfr. In reality, if the player you get is a long term option he can easily earn back those 4 points in just a few weeks.

It's precisely this logic i'm using to justify spending 4pts to ditch Demel.

So you think it's a good idea to take the hit to bring a defender in? Even if I do take the hit, I have to assume Demel will play otherwise it is impossible for me to field even 10 without an 8 point hit.

Yep. Demel->Jevans will earn you back that 4 points within 3 weeks. Over the whole season it will earn you a lot more.

Yea Wilson will be great value once he's back playing but I never take a hit for a def unless its a DGW def. I need to clear out two or three of my def also but mids and fwds take priority.

If your worried about not having Sissoko then take the hit to get him in but don't take a hit for Wilson. Stoke have fulham away and they could concede.

You miss my point, but then I did hide it behind an allusion. Let me put it this way (as I did on the other page).

Every year there are people on this board with good ranks and a lot to say, those people tend to be much quieter the following season. Why do you think that is? Other people have a good rank and speak with humility and moderation, they tend to do the same thing the following season. Why do you think that is?

Then you have a lot to learn. There is no such thing as 'the best' (example - theres probably a guy in the jungle somewhere who might be potentially faster than Usain Bolt, but he'll never get the chance).

There are currently 7 Billion people on the planet, the chances of you or indeed anyone being 'the best' at anything are vanishingly small. You will be a lot happier in life if you accept this.

Also people will like you a lot more and life will be less of a fight. 🙂

Sturridge outstanding valute and season keeper

as soon as he moved in liverpool i predicted that he will be brillinat untill end of the season

and dont try to prove me wrong cause i get rid of my favorite player suarez just to get sturridge in

aslo i get him in even if 97% people sugest me that i should get ,,fletcher in form'' and that sturridge has some hard fixures (but he did deliver in all of those fixures 🙂 )

    Surfer Rosa :

    Federici
    B. Jones, Debuchy, Martin, Dawson
    Gerrard, Walcott, Mata, Sisokko
    Van Persie, P. Cisse

    Begovic, Michu, Sturridge, Davies

0.9 m in bank. Keeping Walcott for expected blank and probable blank in GW 29.Planning on using my FT on Jones to Cuellar, going with just 10. Stevie G to Bale is tempting as an extra transfer but Bale tends to go on 5 or 6 great games then drops off for a similar number. Including EL he’ll be on his 6th against a previously miserly home Hammers defence, Defoe probably be back so Bale will not be as attack-minded. His fixtures after that aren’t as kind either whereas Gerrard doesn’t get the huge points but gets decent points more consistently.

Please advise and stop me wasting another 4 points stupidly.

So I’ve got Sczeszny, Baines, Walcott, Bale, RVP & Fellaini as the only players I expect will get something next week. If I’m really, really lucky I could end up with around 40 pts. Probably captaining RVP.

In addition, I’m stuck with Martin, Demel, Shaw & Guthrie. Don’t expect more than 2-3 pts in total.

I’m definitely keeping Michu. Also, it doesn’t seem right to transfer out either of Suarez & Sturridge, as I think they are in for a massive run in the coming weeks. That leaves me with Rangel out for some defender with CS potential, but that is just such a waste of FT.

I really have no idea what to do this week. Any input?

    Is it worth doing:

    Demel > Evans
    Guthrie > sissoko
    Suarez > cisse

for an 8 point hit so I can field 10 next week?

Or you could take a 4-pt hit to field 11?

Erm...how exactly? Given that guthrie and demel don't play and I have 5 Liv/Swan players (which was probably an error in truth even though I got 104 this week...)

Demel might play. Mark seems hopeful. I guess you have a point with Guthrie.

hummm...yeah could be worth a gamble. Even if he doesn't probably not going to get me more than a point.

I see you're following the rule of only taking hits for players with an S in their name.

That's the no.2 rule of fantasy league right?

          Yeah, multiple hits = multiple S's Evans = FT, Cisse = 4pts Sissoko = 8pts.

Double newcastle is too much. Just get a Mid and Striker for -4 , there will be a lot of 10 man teams this week.

    Well that's just convinced me
    GJ > Jevans
    Bertrand > Wilson

Decide what to do about Davies and Mignolet next week. Mig > Cesar would let me do Davies > Enrique (0.1m short at the mo)

My dilemma completely. I think for me the issue is that I can't really do anything meaningful with demel or guthrie if I get aguero + I think there's every chance of a blank at chelsea. So I'm tempted by Cisse. Then again, Aguero is Aguero

I let go of RVP last week for Suarez so I have no issues with funds.
