Scouting The Doubles

Scouting the Doubles – Swansea

With their top-flight safety long-assured and the Capital One Cup also in the bag, Swansea continue to limp over the finishing line after a superb first few months under the guidance of Michael Laudrup. Double Gameweek 36 hands the Welsh outfit a tricky home clash against City this Saturday but with a trip to struggling Wigan the following Tuesday, Fantasy managers will be optimistic over the Swans potential:

The Prospects

Since their 5-0 Wembley win over Bradford in last February, Swansea have toiled in the league. While the game directly after their Capital One cup triumph harvested a narrow home victory over Newcastle, they have since embarked on a run of form which has produced just four goals in the last six matches. At the back, they’ve been equally unimpressive – with two goals conceded in five of those fixtures, they’ve hardly made a persuasive case for inclusion in our double Gameweek plans. Indeed, factor in a Gameweek 37 trip to Old Trafford and some will be thinking twice over their acquisition.

Although the home game against City is the least appealing of the two fixtures, Roberto Mancini’s side have, perhaps surprisingly, scored more than a single goal just once in their last six away matches – ironically against United in Gameweek 32. City have just one clean sheet in their last five away trips, offering hope for the Swans attacking assets. A visit to Wigan, with Roberto Martinez’s side fighting for their survival, could pose problems, though – the Latics have dropped just two points from their last three at the DW, courtesy of Emmerson Boyce’s last-minute own goal against Spurs on Saturday.

The Likely Lads

Given the Swans’ lack of resilience at the back in recent matches, confidence in their ability to produce clean sheets is likely to be limited. With a couple of goals to his name so far, Angel Rangel has found the net more often than any defensive team mate and has also provided an assist this term. Coming in at 4.7 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), he’s a little more expensive than fellow full-back Ben Davies (4.4) but the latter’s game time could be under threat from Neil Taylor, who returned to action as a second-half sub last weekend after a long-term ankle injury.

With five goals and seven assists racked up already, Jonathan de Guzman comes into consideration for the double. The Dutchman has a fair share of set-pieces and was also confirmed as the club’s first-choice spot-kick taker by Laudrup after Nathan Dyer’s Wembley strop – typically fielded in “the hole” behind Michu when the Spaniard leads the line, de Guzman comes in at just 5.7 in FPL and could appeal as a differential, with an ownership under the 5% mark.

Sitting in over 45% of FPL teams, Michu remains the most popular player in the game. Having scored in just three of his 13 appearances since the turn of the year, there’s no question he has lacked in consistency over the last few months – with 17 goals so far, though, he has scored more than three times any other Swansea player (de Guzman and Wayne Routledge are next best with five apiece) and is the man most likely to produce for Laudrup’s side over the double.

Cheeky Punt

While Wayne Routledge and Nathan Dyer alternate for starts, Pablo Hernandez offers a security of game time under Laudrup. The Spaniard has been fielded in the first XI in all but one of the last 15 league matches and, like Michu, has already found the net against Wigan earlier in the season. Hernandez has notched three times this term and with six assists also accrued, his creativity has been key to the Welsh club’s output.

Can I just say, for the record, in my honest opinion with John Terry as my witness:

SAF is a sadistic old man who loves nothing more than rubbing other people’s noses in it. He’s as vindictive as they come and takes great pleasure in other people’s pain and will inflict extra damage just for fun.

In short, RvP will start every game until the end of the season.

Even this is true, I have rationalised my desicion to sell him right after his hattrick. I believe there is no such FPL player where you must keep all season. If you are fortunate, you sell on “big” players at the right time. Selling RVP has allowed me to have the 5 mids im very satisfied with for the DGW, along with Vertonghen, Baines and Kompany in sight for the final couple of games.

I believe this will amass more points then keeping RVP and be contented with sub-par choices from this point onwards.

Well historically he never has in those situations, also said himself that Chicha and Welbeck will play as much as possible. He mentioned putting out a strong team to be fair to the other teams(that dont apply against the 2 last sides with nothing to play for). Also plans to play Scholes and Nani. I guarantee he will miss at least 1 game.

here we go, i've put all the team mates together so they dont feel lonely. as lukaku is alone i've moved demel off the bench to keep him company, everybody likes demel. to keep the arsenal boys occupied on the bench i've given them a lava lamp to stare at. joe hart would be with nasri and aguero but i've put him in the naighty corner after his error last game.

Hey, could do with some input, both on thransfers and starting 11:)

    Beg
    Demel Davies Enrique
    Michu Bale Sissoko Fellaini
    RvP Tevez Weimann

    Sagna, Hill Punch

Im thinking of taking out Rvp and take -8
    Mata>Siss
    RvP> Lukaku
    Weimann> Benteke

    Any suggestions on that?

Help me pick a GK and forward (or 5th midfielder) for this GW:

    A. Hart & Coutinho
    B. Bego & Defoe
    C. Bego & Lukaku
    D. Hart & Lukaku - 4 point hit

    Rest of team:
    Dawson, Sagna, Riether (or Martin)
    Michu, Walcott, Maloney, Bale
    RVP, Tevez

I'm playing 2nd place in my h2h league, he's 3 points behind me (and has Lukaku).

The only way I'd see RVP starting all Utd's final games is if he's still chasing the golden boot. He's 6 ahead of Bale, surely that's wrapped up! Plenty of rest coming RVP's way.

Why do people think RVP will get rested because he's "secured the golden boot".
1 - He'll want to improve last year's tally. Surely he's not satisfied with 26.
2 - Why would SAF 'rest' him. They're only playing 1 game per week now. Fatigue not a factor.
3 - "Squad rotation" doesn't mean "RVP will be rotated" (Ferdinand? Rooney? Carrick?)
4 - Why would you swap out a top class striker who's just go a hat trick last MNF + a goal this weekend?

Pure madness if you ask me.

I reckon Spurs should go for Hernandez for next season if Man United are willing to sell.

If we keep Bale (big if), Hernandez could be the perfect man for him to play behind. Hernandez is a great finisher but little else. Right place at the right time kind of guy. With Bale out on the left, he'll get on the end of his crosses and with Bale in the middle he'll make the runs for Bale to assist or pick up the pieces when keepers spill Bales swirling long shots. Yup.

Hernandez is an excellent header of the ball as well

Wouldn't mind him at Spurs to be honest, but unsure whether he is the kind of player to be most effective in the lone forward role?

Someone like Dzeko would be better suited I think.

I'm not a fan of Dzeko tbh. The way i see it, with all the apparant goalscoring midfielders we've got, all we need is a player who's gonna make good runs onto the passes of our more creative players. Dzekos not quick enough and often comes too deep. We're often congested enough outside of the box already.

If we're hoping to play 4-3-3, he should be the kind of forward we go for. If we go back to 4-4-2 though, Dzeko could be useful.

Someone like Dzeko, might as well read, someone who can hold up the ball, head crosses, and serve as target man.

Ideally Adebayor would do this, or Berbatov would come back.

          4-4-2 = death

I'd love to have Berbatov back, or even an in-form Adebayor (lawl).

I used to think we needed someone to hold the ball up to allow our attacking mids to get forward but now i think different.

If there's one thing Adebayor has done well this season, it's holding the ball up. The problem has been him not being in the box when he's needed to be there.

With the pace we have in Lennon, Bale, Dembele and Walker... and the amount of times there's been no one to cross too, i don't think it's a hold up player we need anymore.
