HomeCrowd Tweaks

Tonight we’ve introduced a few changes to the HomeCrowd comments system – the main tweak being the removal of the downvote mechanism to put more emphasis on upvoting in order to ensure comments remain useful, entertaining and friendly.

We’ve taken this decision after gathering feedback from the community and undertaking lengthy discussion behind the scenes. We want to ensure there remains a strong focus on positive interaction between community members and to reduce any misuse of the voting system. It appeared that there was clear confusion on how the downvote should be used and the mechanic had also become secondary as an aid to moderation.

Many of the major social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook only have positive feedback options, such as ‘like’ and ‘favourite’ and we’ve decided to follow their lead. As before, please be sure to upvote any comment that you find useful and that you feel benefits the community.

In order to allow users to flag up any comments that they feel warrant moderator attention, we’ve also made a slight change by renaming the “report” button to “flag”. Please use the flag button if you feel a comment post is disruptive or abusive and a moderator will take a look and act on it if required.

Finally, we have removed the publicly displayed reputation level badges. Again, these caused some confusion and while we’ve kept them and the hidden reputation system behind them, the badges can now only be seen within a poster’s profile.

Thank you to everyone for your feedback during the first few weeks of HomeCrowd, it has been invaluable to helping us evolve it. Once the season begins and traffic levels settle, we will hopefully have the opportunity to start adding new features.

of course, but the downvoting was just getting childish. There is still the 'flag' tab to report real abuse. Overall I think this change encourages positivity instead of negtivity

Nothing stops the clowns to now "abuse" the upvoting button. It could have an even bigger effect if the site gets busy and the mods can't keep up with keeping tabs on everything.

People popping in on Sat morning could get tied up in reading thu nonsense posts with a high +rep.

You can still sort by discussion rating (I must do that more!) but I agree it'd be nice to have some visual representation of people's rep. Maybe once you've had 100 up votes you get a little bronze thing, 500 a silver, 1000 gold. Something like that?

I think it did the opposite. Saw so much crap posted about down voting, they just became another way for trolls to entertain themselves.

Changes are good, although I would like to see some way of marking out people who consistently get up votes. Would allow the noobs to see who can be trusted more.

True, but a noob wouldn't necessarily spot that. It's not a huge deal, but would be nice to have something to aim for: people seem to be posting lots of well researched, thought out posts since the new system launched, and anything that encourages that can only be a good thing.

    Hello
Someone mentioned Snod. was good value considering his points last year.
This is a team I based on that principal.
Went with popular GK combo as none other than Schwarzer (game time).
Did not double up on Mignolet with Johnson.
Replaced Stoke players (poor draw) with Chelsea DGW players.
    Mig. - Boruc
    Mert. - Jag. - O'Brien - O'Shea - Luiz
    Snod. - Nolan - Johnson/Sess. - Morrison - Hazard (C)
    Lambert - Berbatov - Lukaku
    Cheers

Morning all. Just my two cents worth...

RVP is essential imo as there is no risk of rotation in the early games.

We don’t know who will start for Chelsea; Torres or Lukaka although many assume it will be the latter. The City forwards look to be a huge rotation risk despite what Pellegrini was saying about Dzeko. A club like City haven’t spent all that money to warm the bench. Giroud looks good in pre season but that in itself can flatter to deceive, 2331 minutes last season with only 121 points isn’t great for a top four striker.

Outside of the top four there are options (Bentake, Cisse, Bony, etc etc) but inside the top four I only see the likely chance of rotation and uncertainty at the moment, so RVP is a safe bet.

That is absolutely the question but my point is that RVP is the only real safe bet as far as top four strikers are concerned at this stage.

yes but you need to judge which combination will generate more points.
          e.g. Hazard & Walcott vs. RVP & 5m player

that said, i wouldn't have rvp for the first few GWs - che DGW is a bit too tempting plus mun fixtures not that appealing first up. Int'l break pre GW4 looks most obv.

to an extent yes, but some of the other openings are pretty hot to trot as well. and regardless of who you can squeeze in alongside rvp - the others will still be weaker with him.

I agree that Aspas might be a bit of a reach. You can certainly funnel some of the GK money into another FWD.

I would also suggest that you get somebody else from Chelsea in for the first week. I know that it is the trendy move, I would get Lukaku in. You can always ship him out in Week 1 or 2 for one of the other good mid-priced FWDs out there--RVW, Carroll, Pappis Cisse (or Gouffran), or even back to Aspas if he looks more nailed on.

After seeing so many claiming to know CFC´s back 4 i decided it´s time to drop a quote from Mourinho.

"The potential is incredible, amazing, He always has to play. For me he is a central defender"

      Watch the "always".

I'm well aware if this quote but beware of things lost in translation, always 'has' to play could easily always 'wants' to play. Do you really think any manager would ever come out and say that any player will always play?

    Hey guys,
I'm pretty happy with my team but have 2 problems remaining.
I need a 5.5 def (allready have Mert, want to avoid NOR and West ham. Right now I have Jagielka but am not convinced.)
Second prob: I need a mid 5.0. (My mid atm is snoddy, bale, walcott, hazard, wanyama but i would like to replace the latter to open a SOU spot in my team, any tips?)

A couple of suggestions with backup would be greatly appreciated!,

    FYI my team:
    Mig (boruc)
    Mert,turner,jagielka,clyne,collins
    Snoddy, bale, walcott,hazard,wanyama
    Lukaku,lambert,berbatov

Thank you so much for your help, cheers

You can go for Brady for Wanyama. I think that Marveaux could be good gamble as a 5.0 (especially after week 1).

I would really, though, try to get a Chelsea defender in. Two home games against totally poo teams could lead to two clean sheets plus goals/assists/bonus as icing on the cake.

They don't rotate perfectly, but well enough. They have matching aways, but Sunderland place Crystal Palace. You can do worse.

I have that combo, so I may be delusional. Southhampton's defense could end up being second rate.

    Migs, Harper

    Toure, Terry, Collins (Murner, Chester)

    Silva, Hazard, Walcott, Sessegnon (Thomas)

    Dzeko Lukaku Anelka

Lukaku for the DGW and then RVP, no doubts over him. Can always transfer Dzeko to Berb, even as a sub in some games he should score enough points early on when you look at City's fixtures. As for Anelka, he is a punt but cheap. Forwards are the hard one.

haha you're only saying that as you answered on on Triggerlips previous post 🙂

Assume this is a DGW focused team that will require an early WC or points hit to remodel? I would swap a Chelse mid with a chelse defender and add bentekkers.

PS - I plan to do WC early so no harshness inteneded.

Widespread belief that Mata won't play the first game vs Hull due to being away with Spain until shortly before the season starts so if he's only in for the DGW I'd take a second look.

Not sure I'm a fan personally of relying on the Cardiff defence every week but I admire the puntiness 🙂 I'd be tempted to swap Marshall for Szczesny (sp?) and Mertesacker for a Cardiff defender to keep your options open.

If I was rating someone elses team, id probably tell them Dawson and Toure ain't nailed down, Thomas is muck and Dzeko is an educated punt (after recent comments).

Cheers lad!, much appreciated, considering going long haul with Tekkers and Hazard (and Lukaku if he holds his spot).

Reckon these belgian lads know how to play footy and will only push on this season. But then, I find longterm planing and FPL don't mix well, so ill keep my options open.

Lampard is the doubler i'm currently looking at for the chopping bench, down to Barfa or Sess for GW2 and then spend the funds wherever I need them.

First bit of advice. Try posting in the following format as this format will get ignored by most.

      G (G)
      D D D
      M M M M
      F F F

      Bench etc.

A few risky players in that lot. Baker, McNaughton, Garrido & Colback who is playing as a defender are players I'd look at. Rooney needs to be playing up front to be worth the effort perhaps.

Apparently the head of the Romanian league confirmed yesterday that Spurs have signed Vlad Chiriches from Steauna Bucharest.

The guy is a defender and would be competing with Vertonghen for gametime most likely.

On YouTube the guy looks class, but then again those videos can make anyone look amazing.
