The Community Round Up

Tottenham’s new recruits and the start of the Champions League group stages were among the hottest topics being discussed by the community over the international break. We also find out how FFS UEFA’s transfer window simulation game concluded and welcome aboard a new moderator to the Fantasy Football Scout team.

Hottest Topics

Tottenham have so many new arrivals following the close of the transfer window that it is hard to keep up with their likely starting XI. Luckily our resident video expert Brutus619 had his finger on the pause button to analyse attacking midfielder Erik Lamela’s displays and assess whether he is the real deal as a Fantasy prospect.

Robin Van Persie continues to divide the community, with one group of players set for glory, while the other bracing themselves for  disappointment. BigFatFrank has decided to give those wildcarders looking to shoehorn the Dutch striker into their team a step by step guide to creating the perfect RVP team. Meanwhile, 7 Shades of Smoke has ben debunking the popular “keep calm and captain RVP” mantra and wondering if it is nothing but a myth.

Elsewhere,Iain_90 ponders whether there’s any weight to the theory of “attacking coverage” across the most offensive teams or if it’s best just targeting certain individuals.

Bonus points and their sudden shine to defenders continues to dominate discussion. King Nemanja is so convinced that the recent glut of bonus points for defenders is no mere fluke that he is prepared to commit himself to a four at the back formation to ensure his team cashes in. For those wanting to follow his lead he’s come up with some great defensive line ups here.

The Champions League is almost here and in our discussion on the best options out there HeyDudes13 has some great budget options to consider  and Konig Luther’s lengthy list in this thread is also well worth looking at.

Worryingly for the community, international injuries have been mounting up this last week, with Liverpool right back Glen Johnson among those possibly destined for a lengthy stay in the physio room. Archie has been running the rule over the candidates who are likely to replace Johnson while he recovers.

Finally, Maxi’s top ten tips for mini-league success provided some useful, albeit sneaky and underhand, advice for winning a mini-league.

Community Leagues

FFS UEFA’s Transfer Window Simulation (TWS) game came to a finale during the international break with Norwich led by The Shadow being crowned TWS Champions. The rest of the top 5 was rounded off by PeppieandFelix‘s Fulham, Liverpool owned by 4vets, Arsenal guided by Zep and HVT‘s Aston Villa. FFS UEFA also tell us that places are still up for grabs in their FA Cup style game. If you are interested sign up here  by the deadline of 11:59pm BST, September 22. Those already involved in the FFS UEFA leagues and those who applied unsuccessfully to be a part of that competition have all been given an automatic space so do not need to apply.

Bentekke IMO is as close as we've seen to a season keeper so far and with Gnasher chomping at the bit I would monitor pool situation.

Punty as f**k, but this WC team is still intriguing:

    Mignolet . Daniels
    Nastasic . Coleman . Whittaker . Chester . Brayford
    Eriksen . Lamela . Özil . Lampard . JWP
    RVP . Soldado . Chamakh

I know the defense stinks and that there is WAY too many unproven talent, but still 🙂

What do people think of my possible team:

    Gk: Mignolet
Def: Chambers - Collins - Nastasic - Dawson - Baines
Mid: Whittingham - Michu - Delph - Redmond - Walcott
For: Van Persie - Welbeck - Giroud

Next gameweek transfer will be to get rid of welbeck (depending on how he plays). Any comments would be useful!!!!!!

I would downgrade Baines to say Coleman. And then upgrade Delph or Redmond. Wouldn't like to have all 3 of this cheepies in my midfield and i really don't believe the age of 3-4-3 is dead.

problem is who could i upgrade to in midfield as i dont really see many points coming from 7.0 unders atm. My team has a lot of prediction ie. baines in the long run will outscore coleman because he takes pens, corners and freekicks, its just a matter of time. Similarly after all of Swanseas hard fixtures i think Michu will start banging them in.

Okay tough one. I think Tot will do well in the next few games, Walker and Vertog is nailed on, Tot are solid defensively and CB are racking in bonus points so its a BUY. Ivanovic is a goal threat but i doubt they will get CS with the tricky upcoming fixtures + Jose''s lineup is impossible to guess so its Walker for me.

Who to captain this week out of Giroud and Walcott?

Walcott is very consistent in FPL whether home or away but has had 2 pretty poor games for England and picked up a minor knock in the 2nd one. Giroud's started the season on fire for Arsenal but has played 2 90 minute qualifiers for France and has still ultimately only ever scored 2 away goals in the Premier League..

I'm picking Wally, but I'd be happy with Giroud too if I had him.

It will be interesting to see which Arsenal team and which Sunderland team turn up, but I'm expecting goals, probably all assisted by Özil with both Wally and Giroud benifiting.

Question is, over the next 2 weeks which is a better option

    Rvp vs crystal p (H) and man c (A) + a -4 hit

    Or

Soldado vs Norwich (H) and Cardiff (A) no hit

Have tekkers and sturidge in other 2 attacking slots - tough decision!!!!!!!

    For me: 3 transfer

    Dzeko -> Lukaku
    Turner -> Koscienly
Silva -> Lamela (Luxury Trade: pending bad Silva from and the arrival of the Lamela Bandwagon)

Also leaves me 1.6m in the bank I have no use for..

      Migs (Davis)

Hate to do it, but here it is...WC, minus RvP:

    Mig/Boruc

Didn't have him to start with. Mucking around with much less cred defenders + RvP...doing my head in. Had RvP right through last season, incl his piss-poor run-in (compared with his price)

    After a 4 pt hit I'll have:

    Boruc (szczesny)
    Toure Koscielny Coleman Chester (O'Brien)
Lampard Walcott Ward Prowse (Whitingham Barkley)
    RVP(C) Soldado Sturridge

    1.1m in bank

I realise toure might not start so first sub is whittingham for the 3-4-3

    Good to go?

I know this is essentially mostly speculation, but it is true that Liverpool really do seem to rely on Sturridge.

I see him starting at the weekend regardless.

I didn't see the United game, but was he really that unfit? If so, it was a huge risk for Rodgers to play him.

I know from my own personal experience that hip/thigh injuries can only get worse unless you allow them to properly recover.

He was clearly not 100% - but you have to say that Rogers' risk paid off. Depends how his 2 week break has treated him, really.

Am I the only person underwhelmed by Brady? I was going to buy but other than penalties I don't see him doing much, especially having analysed stats in the members zone as well a his championship stats. Hull are defensive too... i don't expect tons of penalties.

With him we know what we'll probably get, and it isn't much. Riskier options like Barkley, ward prowse, puncheon, the stoke dude, Redmond may not be guaranteed starts but do have the potential to do really well.

I'd rather have someone I might need to sell because he's dropped than someone I'll have no confidence in scoring well.

Absolutely. Before the prices came out I assumed he would be 13m because he scored basically the same number of points as the previous season that resulted in him being 13m. In my naivete, I thought that was the only real factor. But actually, popularity is a factor too and FPL have done the game a real favour by making owning him a genuine decision. At 13m there's almost no decision to make.
