The Community Round Up

The community rallies round to help Mark begin one of the most dramatic comebacks Fantasy Premier League (FPL) has ever seen. Liverpool’s key assets come under the microscope and we also take a look at some potential ‘season keepers’. Meanwhile, there’s the community leagues to catch up on and we find out why a Russian-themed team have plenty to smile about…

Hottest Topics

After spending years giving out Fantasy Football advice the community decided to help Mark out with his ailing team in one of our busiest hot topics this week. Among those to offer advice were Fysh who would like to see him swap Hatem Ben Arfa and Christian Eriksen for an Arsenal and Chelsea midfield pairing. Jafalad highlights that Romelu Lukaku, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Özil and Luis Suarez could be the key men to see him climb up the rankings. While Alberto Tomba also gives Mark the ‘Full Jonty’ treatment assessing where it went wrong for his team. Mark also chips in with his current transfer plans and how his hopes are pinned firmly to a strong performance from Manchester City’s assets.

Another to think Suarez is key to FPL performance is Floydy Floyd who believes he is currently the best player in the Premier League. Among those to agree were Chu Young Ping Pong while Gooner of Oz was among those to back Özil for that accolade.

In a similar vein The Parmtree asked which players could be classed as ‘season keepers’. Pundit of Punts backs Artur Boruc, Suarez, John Terry and Ravel Morrison to stay in his team for the whole season, while  Alberto Tomba believes Olivier Giroud will be a season keeper, assuming Arsenal do not sign any more strikers.

Other players being considered this week include the now cut price Glen Johnson. The Liverpool defender looks an outstanding out of position prospect if Liverpool stick with their 3-5-2 formation, but Zepinho remains sceptical. His research found that in the last two years he has returned just two goals and only six assists, a record that compares poorly to the likes of Leighton Baines, Patrice Evra and Terry.

You Must Be Jokin Ere has been taking a stock check of the bonus point allocation so far in FPL. Turns out that after an initial dominance from defenders, the midfielders are at last fighting back and taking a bigger slice of the bonus cake.

Community Leagues

HeelsOverHead’s Worst To First  – 2 Million+ Club, for teams with an overall rank below  two million in the first five game weeks, sees BarboaII hang on to his lead with an overall score of 441 and rank of 207,63. Five teams are in the top 500,000 and of the 23 teams that entered 13 are now in the top one million.

In Thomas and Peppie&Felix’s Friends Life competition Daniel, Beric and and Al Pacino are the league leaders.

The leaders of In Tommy We Trust’s All Things leagues are La Roja, Chilin_Dude, Larn Dart, Crouch Potato and Binji, who is top of both the All Things Michu and the All Things Kolarov leagues.

The teams to emerge victorious from the pre-tournament friendlies in FFS UEFA’s  Beach Soccer World Cup tournament were Iran, Senegoal, Spain, Paraguay, Netherlands, Spurgentina, Russia and Solomon Islands. As part of Russia’s victory over Ukraine I was contractually obliged to post this hot topic. Listen out for further contractual obligations on this week’s podcast.

I'm fed up with my "good on paper but shit on the pitch" team so I'm probably WC-ing next GW to get me some CHE and MCI action.

-4 hit so far. Might even go -8 for fun. Soldado (C) and to hell with it!

With Europe’s B League on show tonight, I thought I’d take a look at some fixtures and players which are likely to produce returns. For those that are interested….
    UEL Matchday 3 Summary

Fiorentina vs.Pandurii- Rossi will look to continue his fine form, scoring a hatrick recently against Juventus. At the back Gonzalo Rodriguez is on pens. Joaquin also offers a good option in midfield, if receiving game time.

Bordeaux vs. APOEL- The Cyprus side APOEL have yet to trouble the scoresheet, so at the back Henrique with his goal threat is an option. If Bordeaux are to regain some attacking form Jussie may be in for a goal or two.

Shakhter Karangandy vs. AZ Alkmaar- Shakthar should be no match for a red hot Alkmaar, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw at the back is a good option (1 goal) and Johann Gudmundsson will look to add to his tally upfront.

Sheriff (Moldova) vs. Tottenham- Jermaine Defoe (3 Goals) will no doubt continue his incredible scoring form in the UEL and is a good option. With rotation occurring, look at Lamela and Chriches for other returns.

Zulte Waregem vs. Maribor- Maribor has conceded 8 goals in two matches so far. However Zulte have yet to score, expect a 1-0, 0-0 result, De Fauw is your main option at the back.

Lyon vs. Reijka- With Reijka conceding 4 goals in the opening away fixture, expect Lyon to run rampant with the main architects being Bafetimbi Gomis and Maxime Gonalons

Trabonzspor vs. Legia-The Poland side have yet to get on the score sheet. Look for two former Chelsea players in Bosingwa and Florent Malouda to get involved outwide, up front Paulo Henrique has been in good form.

    Top 6 Captaincy Options
    1. Giuseppe Rossi
    2. Jermaine Defoe
    3. Aleksandr Ryazantsev
    4. Gokdeniz Karadeniz
    5. Alan (Salzburg)
    6. Gonzalo Rodriguez

    Other players to consider-
Lewis Holtby- 2 Assists vs. Anzi
Andriy Yarmolenko(Dynamo Kiev)- 6 League goals this season
Miguel Vitor (PAOK)- Defender 4 league goals and home to Maccabi Haifa
Lacina Traore- If Anzji are to get on the board against Tromso it will be Traore who produces returns,
Marco Russ- Eintracht Frankfurt should keep a clean sheat and the German has produced 2 goals in the Bundesliga this season
Pablo Hernandez- possible return from injury against Rubin Kazan

I have Michu, Defoe and Gomis, if that gives you an idea. Kadlec is a great option scored in the czech qualifer vs malta and at home vs nurenburg on the weekend. Defoe will top score for the intial group stages his form is ridiculous in these compeitions. Michu will want to get on the scoresheet after missing out in his sides drubbing of sunderland.

Thanks a lot, I tried to build a decent team but got burned on some players
namely Bruma and Hiljemaark so your article gives a great overview on the possible options instead of them.

One of the best picks in the UCL is Gonzalo Rodriguez, incredible scores for a defender, so thats a recommendation I definitely agree with, did me a lot of good.

              Some other Stats

Predicted Lineup: Lloris; Naughton, Chiriches, Stewart, Fryers; Dembélé, Lamela, Lennon, Chadli; Adebayor, Defoe

              (4-1-3-2)

Predicted Score: FC Sheriff 0-4 Tottenham

Nacer Chadli has scored twice in his last 3 appearances for Spurs, including last time in Europe against Anji

Swansea City defender Ashley Williams has been ruled out of their UEFA Europa League clash

              Freiburg v Estoril
Freiburg have scored in every home game this season (6).
Estoril’s last nine games have featured both teams scoring.
Estoril have scored in 100 per cent (6) of their away games this season.

                Just to add some thoughts

As far as I know Ludogorets are something like a Bulgarian Man City, so although the odds are mostly against them I'd agree they can easily win this.
They definitely have the players for that.

I'd also point out Salzburg who have a record streak in the Austrian league and can easily score high against Genk.

Also Betis seem to underestimate the competition a bit, saw their match against Lyon and they wanted to get through with a second string eleven, so I'd stay clear fantasy wise.

If you can afford Lallana for Cowie that might be an option. Ramsey's gametime could be in question and Barkley's fixtures turn sour soon so you'll need a stronger midfield.

1 FT 1.9M in the bank.

    Mignolet
    Clyne MTurner Mertesacker
    Mirallas Özil Michu Moses
    Sturridge (vc) Giroud (c) Lukaku

    Subs: Marshall Kim Terry Brayford

My thoughts exactly. Looking at Mert and Moses, but next GW is better than this GW. WBA at home and Palace away are very good fixtures, Moses is still nailed on since Coutinho isn't back.

So that's why I'm thinking save this GW, have 2FTs next GW.

Luiz and Cahill are less nailed on

No goal threat though and I highly doubt he's going to rack up the save points with the defensive style of Mourinho. I still think Terry looks like the best bet, but if they reach the same price I'd pick Ivan.

I've come to accept that Rio Ferdinand will not play this weekend, so.....

    A) Transfer to Clyne (then HBA & Sturridge to Hazard & Benteke next week, -4 points)
    B) Save, probably play Brady (then sort out mess next week)
    C) Any other ideas?! Thanks

I think I'd transfer him to Clyne for a free unless he's declared 100% fit by Moyes (doubt that will happen even if he IS fit). Not sure about your plan for next week, but this GW Clyne seems a good choice. Strong homefixtures upcoming as well.

That usually happens because you have bigger priorities, but yeah at some point you gotta let go. Frees up some money as well.

I still wouldn't do it IF he's declared fit, I mean it's United versus Stoke! Whatever the form has been, if you can have a United defender in that fixture you'd want one.

Need help planning my transfers over the next few weeks. My current team is:

    Migs - Lewis
    Lovren - Vidic - Coleman - Rosenoir - Chico
    Ozil - Amilfitano - Paulinho - Michu - Barkley
    Rooney - Lukaku - Suarez

I want to bring in Terry and Hazard if possible but only have 0.1 in the bank. My thoughts are:

    Coleman > Clyne = 0.9 bank
    Vidic > Terry = 0.5 bank
    Michu > Hazard = 0.4 bank

or do the first two transfers then:

    Michu > Hernandez = 3.5 bank
    Paulinho > Hazard = 1.5 bank

    Any help is appreciated.

I wouldn't lose Michu yet, some great fixtures coming up and is still central to the Swans attack, albeit no points last weekend 🙁

I like Coleman, Vidic, Paulinho --> Clyne, Terry, Hazard though!

Cheers Brains, i'm 1.5 shy of that transfer so would need to swap a big midfielder or downgrade a striker to Hazard in. Getting Hernandez would give me Swans cover at 3.0 less.

Need some help here please. Front 8 is:

    Ozil Ravel Ramsey Michy Brady

    Giroud Suarez Rooney

For GW 10 and 11 with no hits

    A) Aguero and 7.8 mid (Mirallas/Open to suggestions) for Rooney and Ramsey
    B) Aguero for Rooney and keep Ramsey
    C) Benteke and Silva/Oscar/Hazard for Rooney and Ramsey

Rooney has to go after stoke game regardless of fixtures. Utd aren't scoring enough and 10.7 is too much in a player who delivers 5 and 6 pts and can't be a reliable (c).

Aguero is very explosive at the moment and can't be ignored and a good (c) choice. The key question is whether Benteke can match him points wise. (and as a (c) choice)

    Any suggestions?

Giroud trollers: the Mail quote is clear. If he's rested it will be for the Capital One. No way Wenger can afford to rest his lead striker in a PL game. I can envisage a scenario where he might come off after 60 if it's been put to bed but he's nailed on to start...

    Aguero vs Rooney

Looking at the fixtures until week 19 (wildcard) Rooney, who says he now feels happy, (on free kicks and corners) and utd only have 2 tricky fixtures vs arsenal (home) and spurs (away).

Aguero (on penalties) and City have chelsea and southampton away and home matches vs liverpool, arsenal, and spurs so clearly man utd have better fixtures coming up

    So Aguero or Rooney?
