The Community Round Up

Christmas came early this year, as the community tampered with a rather smart online toy offering analysis of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points won and lost. We examine this, along with an array of the week’s other hot topics and glance at the latest developments in our community leagues, whilst revealing if anyone was close to guessing Mark’s predictably doomed Gameweek 13 transfers.

The Hottest Topics

It may sound like the Transformers’ latest recruit but Gargamel’s “Gargatron” is in fact a nifty FPL analysis tool which has sent the Fantasy Football Scout community into a frenzy. It’s easy to operate but works best using Google Chrome and provides a handy summary of just how good or bad your captaincy and bench decisions have been to this point – it can, however, make grizzly reading.

As competition for our three striking berths intensifies, D1sable took over the Fantasy Football Scout Daily Hot Topic on Wednesday to ask whether an ailing Christian Benteke is enduring second season syndrome or just needs more assistance from his team-mates to shine. There was mixed reaction from the thread – Ansinthe Minded was amongst those optimistic that the Belgian will return to his 2012/13 form, while King Nil Miss felt that a lack of sharpness was in evidence following Benteke’s recent groin injury.

Among the best anaylsis of Benteke’s form came from Agbonloahorse. His research shows just how relient Benteke is on Gabby Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann. Of the 28 games in which all three have started, Benteke has racked up 27 goals. In the 25 games in which one of them has failed to start, he has scored just seven goals. Eye-opening stuff.

Mr Smith has been taking a look at two other options, Wayne Rooney and Romelu Lukaku. His excellent post shows that the far cheaper Everton man is keeping pace with the United striker and, in the eight matches to Gameweek 12, had in fact notched more goals.

Just how much of a premium are Fantasy managers willing to pay for a few extra bonus points? This was the key issue covered in Dogba’s discussion on the merits of Everton’s two centre backs, Phil Jagielka and Sylvan Distin. With the pair fairly even in terms of starts and underlying attacking stats it appears that the key difference is Jagielka’s ability to hoover up bonus points on a more regular basis. But, Dogba asks, is that really worth the 0.7m premium Jagielka suitors face over his defensive partner?

Portsmouth Bubblejet has been looking ahead to the festive fixtures and concludes that Gameweeks 13 to 20 present plenty of opportunity to explore rotating options. If you fancy some cheap or mid-priced defensive and midfield candidates to rotate over Christmas, his analysis will prove invaluable.

Meanwhile, since Granville failed to correctly guess Mark’s three transfers during this week’s Scoutcast, we thought we’d give the community a chance to try their luck. Sarjeant was closest with his guess that Sturridge, Rooney and Nasri would make way for Aguero, Suarez and Ravel Morrison. If he had suggested Fulham midfielder Pajtim Kasami instead of the West Ham makeweight, he would have been spot on. Typically, all three of Mark’s signings earned just a couple of points each – while the ousted Wayne Rooney helped himself to a brace at the Lane. Painful.

Community Leagues

The leaders in In Tommy We Trust’s All Things leagues are La Roja, Chilin_Dude, Athletico Timbo, Crouch Potato, Chazza and Koneheads who, going into Gameweek 13, was ranked 532 in the world.

The last 32 in his cup also took  place this weekend. We’ll have the results of the ties between the likes of Greenwindmill and Copenhagen Allstars and La Roja against BlueHazard next week.

In HeelsOverHead’s Worst To First – 2 Million+ Club, for teams with an overall rank below 2,000,000 in the first five game weeks, seven teams have climbed into the top 500,000 and 14 are in the top 1,000,000. Going into Gameweek 13 YOLO Toure was in pole position after climbing to the lofty heights of 187,428th.

Of those taking part in  TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing league, 36 managers got the chop ahead of Gameweek 13 after failing to reach the safety score of 52.

The FFS Paddy Power Cup Second Round also took place this weekend. Look out for the results and third round draw in the next 24 hours.

I see Kagawa and Welbeck occupied the same space a lot in behind Rooney. Which one was supposed to be the LW?

Typical of Welbeck to hog central areas reducing Kawaga's effectiveness. For Kagawa's sake, he'd be better off with A Young on the LW and Valencia on the RW.

I found myself wondering that from the 1st minute to 90th minute.

But it seems like Kagawa was mostly in the middle behind Rooney for build-up play, Welbeck left. When defending, Kagawa dropped back slightly deeper leaving Welbeck up top for counters.

Thats interesting. Welbeck would probably be the better option for the counter attack and Kagawa for the building up. Although even in periods of build up play Welbeck seemed to be very central and really just getting in the way of Kagawa. Evra pushing up all the time probably doesn't help matters either. It wouldn't surprise me to see Young get a start on the left this week, at least he will stay out there.

Yea was watching with my mates and Welbeck was really frustrating. He kept drifting in centrally but little fault on his part though, United kept getting the ball to Valencia time and time again, forcing Welbeck to have to get central to be involved.

Tough physical game for Kagawa it was. A little off pace compared to midweek. But then again, he was playing for years against teams of Leverkusen's pace.

I don't think the lopsided play suits Kagawa, he'd be better off with a more centrally focused attack driving up the middle. Its a shame United chose not to play that way against Spurs. Its not as if Vertonghen is a useless defender worth taking on.

Is Davis 2nd choice to Boruc and the only reason he didn't play because he had a knock (any idea how long Davis is out for?)

If so, then not such a disaster for us Boruc/Davis owners right?

Walker was up for it last night. There was a 50/50 ball where he raced halfway across the pitch and got into a tackle with Evra (i think) at full speed.

Sickening thud and flipped 360. Worried for a second for him but he got up and chased another ball down 😆

Alright what do you's reckon? I've got

    Mignolet
    Shaw Evra Terry
    Ozil Ramsey Oscar Morrison
    Suarez (c) Aguero Remy

Brady, Coleman, Chester 1FT 0.1 ITB

Obviously the plan has to be to get Rooney in for Remy.
My initial thoughts are to roll over the trade and use 2 or even 3 next week to move the cash around and get Rooney if he's not banned.
    Another option is do Oscar & Remy > Hernandez/Shelvey(5.9) & Rooney (-4)
Leaning towards the first option unless Mou suggests Oscar won't start. Will we get pressers mid week?
What do you think? Any other ideas?

After this week fixtures get tough... and I have a funny feeling he may get rested mid-week. Important games coming up incl. CL league.

If you're 100% certain on keeping though, I'd probably look at Whittingham. Decent fixtures.

How to handle Boruc situation? Other goalie is Myhill who's got City on Wednesday and Foster is training again so could be back any day. I foolishly made my FT prior to the Boruc news to move Januzaj out before his price went down.

Do you EVER take a hit on a goalie when the reality is unless the keeper gets a clean sheet or saves a PK they aren't going to cover the cost of the hit, so even if Myhill didn't play and therefore I scored 0 with my keepers it would still be better than a -2 or worse if I took the hit and the keeper I brought in did not get a clean sheet.

Right thing has to be to take chances with Myhill on Wednesday and move Boruc out for GW 15 right?

      Unlucky mate...

      GW11: 6, 8, 1, 1, 5
      GW12: 4, 1, 6, 0
      GW13: 1, 6, 1, 11, 1

I ended up with a back 4 twice though... but 52 in the same spell... not great but not bad either...

Is the crazy Fer wagon finally derailed. A proper DM performance from him at the weekend.

Redmond might be worth looking at though, some good attacking stats from the youngster.

Was it actually a thing? He has a mean shot and a few goals in him. Decent for the price but not "bandwagon" material.

Is Rat back? Shaw worth buying now Boruc out? Could be a big price to pay for Rooney.

      Rooney and two others probably.

c..though distin n lukaku is a little bit early..will be great for gw16 onwards..alternatively can consider walker for evra..then haf a bit more to upgrade distin->coleman.

      HAzzy! What's up?
I saw your thoughts yesterday sorry if i didn't replied..
I think you should do Rooney and stick with it..
Find a rat & Janujaz replacement as well..
get ravel imo, yes he's on 4 but do you think at the end of december janujaz would get a lot of starts compared to ravel? also it free up some cash on the rat replacement..

Anyone have any tight calls in their PP cup draws? I just about scrapped through on 58 points vs my opponents 58.

Funny thing was I only need 2 points from Brady and Oscar going into the last couple of games so was a bit shocked when I woke this morning to see they got exactly 2 points.

Kind of feel for the guy I'm knocking out but more so for my poor returns from Haz, Oscar, Aguero, Suarez and Brady!

I don't choose/buy Suarez or Aguero because I want to know how to make a competitive FPL team without them. 🙂
