Scout Notes – Gameweek 22 – Sunday

Samuel Eto’o hits a hat-trick as Chelsea ease past United at the Bridge. Nemanja Vidic is set for a three-match ban after a late red card adds to David Moyes’ woes. Emmanuel Adebayor is at the double as Spurs win at Swansea, with Wilfried Bony amongst the goals once again for the beaten Welsh side:

Eto’o Treble Sinks United
The Cameroon international was handed the lone striker role against the champions, with Fernando Torres dropping to the bench after back-to-back league starts. Eto’o more than justified Jose Mourinho’s decision by notching all the home side’s goals in the 3-1 win and, with the maximum bonus safely secured, registered a 17-point return in his manager’s 100th Premier League win as the Blues’ boss. After the game, Mourinho revealed Torres is “out for weeks” with knee ligament damage after being forced off as a late sub and subsequently talked up Demba Ba’s prospects – bearing in mind the latter has been named in the first XI just twice this season, though, Eto’o will feel he’s firmly in the driving seat for a regular run of starts now. With West Ham and Newcastle rolling up to the Bridge in the next three, the Cameroon international may well be worth a flutter – further analysis shows he has produced 51 points over his six home starts this season, drawing a blank only once in front of the Blues faithful when handed a chance from the kick-off.

Cole Back on the Blues Bench as Ivanovic Returns
Ashley Cole’s run of four straight starts came to an end as the Serbian recovered from injury to take his place in the XI. Whilst Javier Hernandez’ late consolation prevented the home side from registering a fifth clean sheet in six, the versatile Cesar Azpilicueta is likely to remain in many a wildcard plan after he shifted over to left-back at Cole’s expense – the Spaniard has now started all but one of the last 12 league matches and, at 5.3, is the cheapest on offer amongst Mourinho’s regulars. Gary Cahill also staked a claim for consideration with a 10-point haul yesterday. The former Bolton man supplied a pair of assists and has started 10 of the last 12, though the arrival of Nemanja Matic is likely to see David Luiz fielded less often in central midfield and, with the latter perhaps offering Cahill increased competition at centre-half, Azpilicueta looks a safer option right now.

Moyes’ Worries Increase At the Back
Devoid of front two Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie yet again for yesterday’s clash, the United boss also has concerns at the other end of the pitch to contend with. Moyes watched Patrice Evra limp out of proceedings early in the second period, whilst Nemanja Vidic is also set to miss the next three games in all competitions after his late dismissal for a foul on Eden Hazard. With Rio Ferdinand still doubtful with a knee problem, United’s options are stretched at the back – Moyes looks likely to partner Jonny Evans with Phil Jones or Chris Smalling for next weekend’s visit of Cardiff but, with the champions managing just two clean sheets in the last nine at Old Trafford, the Bluebirds will fancy their chances of finding the net.

Adebayor at the Double
The Togo international plundered the points once again as his Fantasy prospects go from strength to strength under Tim Sherwood. Handed the lone forward role as the new Spurs boss opted for a 4-4-1-1, with Roberto Soldado rested to the bench, Adebayor bagged a brace and maximum bonus for a 13-point return at the Liberty – since the departure of Andre Villas-Boas, Adebayor has racked up 49 points, or an average of 8.2 points per game over six appearances. Priced at just 7.8 in FPL, he’s making a persuasive case for the third forward slot alongside Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero – crucially, his consistency is also a factor, with returns in all but one of his starts under Sherwood. Home games with City and Everton and a trip to Hull in the next three are a little tricky and may deter some investors but, having played a part in eight of Spurs’ 14 goals under the new manager, he’s becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.

Eriksen Ticking Over
The Dane headed into yesterday’s match neck-and-neck on points with Adebayor since Sherwood’s installation and, whilst he was somewhat overshadowed, still managed to deliver for his growing band of owners. Eriksen’s assist for the frontman’s first took his tally to three goals and a pair of assists in the last five matches – similarly to Adebayor, the summer signing from Ajax has been consistent in his returns, producing in all but one of the previous five now. With a bonus point also received, he’s picked up 42 points over six under Sherwood – an average of seven points per game – and, favourably priced at just 7.3, certainly looks a contender for our five-man midfields and is likely to persuade plenty Fantasy managers who cannot accommodate Adebayor up top.

Bony’s Home Comforts
It’s six goals in six home appearances for the Ivorian after his late consolation scuppered the Spurs clean sheet. Whilst the likes of Adebayor and Daniel Sturridge offer a real consistency up front, Bony has yet to produce any attacking points over nine appearances on the road this season compared to seven goals and an assist across the same number of matches at the Liberty. With Fulham, Cardiff, Palace, West Brom and Norwich the next five visitors, the 7.3-priced forward’s chances of further returns look prosperous, then, but that woeful away form needs to be improved before we can view him as a reliable Fantasy prospect.

    Mannone
    Azpilicueta - Coleman - Ward
    Cabaye - Hazard (v) - Silva - Wilshere
    Aguero - Sturridge - Suarez (c)

    Boruc - Ki - Koscielny - Chester

    Bank = 0.9
    FT = 1

Save? Will do Cabaye > Eriksen if the Frenchman leaves for PSG. Then maybe Ki & Wilshere > Noone & Ramsey when Aaron returns.

    Thoughts?

    Repost from yesterday.

I quite like the frisking the fixtures article, but I would really like to see something along the lines of a "3 week punter" or something. I love using the season ticker to help me with my decisions and looking at it over the next 3 weeks, or several sets of 3 week fixtures in the future, there are some great little pockets of love.
There looks like some great teams to get involved with for the next 3.

    Swansea: FUL-whm-CAR
    Man U: CAR-sto-FUL
    Sunderland: STO-new-HUL
    A Villa: WBA-eve-WHM
    Chelsea: WHM-mci-NEW
    Cpl: HUL-ars-WBA

Obviously there are some out of those 6 that aren't perfect but the top 3 especially are quite handy and with certain players finding a bit of real form (Bony, AJ and Welbeck) at the right time, there could be a plethora of points on offer. In addition, many of these buys are real bargains at the moment. Going through those 6 teams, considering injures to team mates, there are a lot of nice punts, especially up front and at the back.
Man U have Evans and maybe Rio at the back with Welbeck up front, depending on the fitness of the you know who's.
Swansea have Bony as the stand out, although they are not famed for their home performances, this could be where that all changes.
Sunderland have a few scouts worried about their current lack of shut outs but AJ looks like he may just have some consistency in his locker. I still like Brown at 4.3m.
Villa have a resurgent Benteke re-arriving on the scene with magnificent timing. If he can use the last couple of outings to boost his confidence, he has some handy opposition to use it on. Like Swansea however, their home form is something of a concern.
Chelsea are really tying things together these days and look like they can turn up the heat on their opposition, and turn the dial up on the goal front. A certain Mr Eto'o has come on to our radars with a hat trick and a significant lay off for Mr T. At 8.2m he'd be both a bargain and a differential.
Crystal Palace are mainly a great option at the back, with a bundle of bargains in a pretty tight defence, I personally have has Gabbi for a while, but for those looking to invest, Mariappa and Parr are superb value at 4m.

Of course there are lots more, but these are mainly differentials. Of course there is the Spot the Differential article, but I would love to see something for midterm buy options where the main idea would be to get some explosive results and then get rid as soon as the fixtures turn sour.

    Thoughts?

It's a nice idea but I think there's quite a lot of overlap with the the Frisking articles. The focus of the Frisking article is the next four fixtures, with the next six being a sort of tie-breaker.

The next one will probably highlight your top four there, although Chelsea and Palace wouldn't make it. I guess a lot of managers will feel that punting on just 3 fixtures would require a lot of explosive potential. I wouldn't bring a defender in for just three fixtures, for example.

Don't really need an article to see a 3-week punt. The ticker is pretty easy to work out for just 3 GWs.

A little ray of hope for the Cabaye bedwetters (like me):

    http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/yohan-cabaye-gives-fresh-assurances-6528101

Cabaye has given United his word that he will stay until at least the end of the season.

Apparently they are deliberately mixing things up. In that interview he apparently indeed only talks about Newcastle's chances to play a great season. But, the part about "assurances" is actually "has given United his word..." which probably refers to the interview that took place weeks ago. here, all he answers to question is that he tries to do his best for the team and be ready for the world cup. Not that he would stay in Newcastle till the end of the season.

I had him last week and ditched on wildcard. A decent 1 week punt but would avoid if you've used your wildcard - Swansea's midfield is in tatters. When a few players return, I may get Bony back

Looking for some advice on the potential best use of my FT this week?

    Boruc Davis
    Azpi Chiriches Kolarov Chester Hudson
    Ozil Navas Hazard Sterling Pozuelo
    Sturridge Aguero Suarez

    0 in the bank.

I do want to get rid of Sterling but there aren't many good options in his price bracket imo.

I was thinking Ozil > Ramsey (if declared fit in time) and Sterling > Cabaye.

Would that be worth a hit?

    Boruc

    Coleman Koscielny Gabbidon

    Hazard Silva Yaya Januzaj/Wilshere

Wildcarded last week, but considering the following transfers: will try and save FT this week and maybe take a hit next GW to do all three:

Kolorov > Azpi (think Chelsea will firm up defensively as season closes)
Lallana > Yaya - need to get him in finally
Giroud > Adebayor - if he keeps performing like this it's going to cost me.

Taking a hit two weeks after a WC? Ade and especially Yaya have been performing for a while - you should've been feeling them last week if you're feeling them now.

Advice from all on here , last week, was dont' triple up on MC attack and MC defence looks great....hence wait anotehr week and save FT, Giroud could get a hatrick and Kolorov could score and Lallana has only blanked this week.

And if it goes wrong, I have Sturridge to hopefully limit the damage.

And if my other picks can't keep me in the running, and Suarez goes on to score another 346 goals this season, then I guess I got it wrong!

But after all the game is about fun, isn't it?

Although winning, in turn, does being happiness 😉 (oh the decisions)
