Spot the Differential – Gameweek 29

As the minutes tick down on another deadline, we look for inspiration amongst the lesser-owned Fantasy assets once again. Whilst 10 Premier League teams sit on the sidelines, all three of our overlooked alternatives have a home game on their agenda to earn themselves a place in the Gameweek 29 headlines this afternoon.

Craig Bellamy

Back after serving a three-match suspension last weekend, the veteran was immediately re-installed to the Cardiff starting XI by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. With Craig Noone still a slight doubt for this afternoon’s vital home game against Fulham and Wilfried Zaha handed just 45 minutes in th last two league matches, Bellamy’s experience and know-how look essential to his side’s chances of earning the points.

Crucially, in an ever-changing Bluebirds’ line-up, Bellamy seems to have his manager’s backing. The Welshman has started each of the last four league games he has been available for and grabbed a goal and maximum bonus points in his previous home appearance in a 2-1 win over Norwich.

Available for just 4.6 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), 7.3 in the Sky Sports game and 2.0 in the Sun Dream Team, he also has proverbial six-pointers against West Brom and Palace in the next five Gameweeks to help fire his side out of the drop zone.

Andre Schurrle

A three-goal haul against Fulham last weekend highlighted the German’s goal-getting capabilities. Whilst the likes of Oscar and Willian struggle to find the net, with a single goal apiece since Gameweek 12 and Gameweek 7 respectively, Schurrle grasped his opportunity with both hands against Felix Magath’s side to take his tally to six goals in his last four starts for the league leaders.

The problem is that Schurrle has only started four of his side’s last 20 league matches. Despite scoring against City in Gameweek 9, he was dropped the following week and played 30 minutes over the subsequent five fixtures. After notching twice on his next start and earning 15 points in a 3-2 defeat at Stoke in Gameweek 15, he was once again demoted to the bench before returning to the first-team for the Gameweek 20 win at Southampton. Schurrle then played 31 minutes over the next seven league matches prior to last weekend’s win at the Cottage – a clear indication of his erratic game time under Jose Mourinho.

Nonetheless, for those perhaps looking for a short-term punt, the German’s display will be hard for his manager to overlook against Tottenham later this evening as Chelsea seek the win that would take them seven points clear at the summit. Schurrle is vailable for 6.9 in FPL, 8.0 in the Sky Sports game and 2.0 in the Sun Dream Team if you fancy rolling the dice on Jose’s team selection.

Victor Anichebe

The Baggies forward was fit enough only for the bench last time around but still found time to maintain his impressive recent showings. Replacing the injured Billy Jones just before the break against Fulham, Anichebe presence up top allowed Pepe Mel’s side to grab a late leveller after he supplied the assist for Matej Vydra’s 86th-minute strike.

Having mustered just a single goal and assist in the opening 23 Gameweeks, the Nigerian has now found the net twice and also supplied a pair of assists in the last four league outings – essentially playing a part in all four of his side’s goals from Gameweek 24 onwards, including crucial equalisers at home to Liverpool and Chelsea.

Indeed, the Baggies have also drawn against Everton in front of their fans since Mel’s installation and will be quietly confident of picking up the points against under-fire United tomorrow as they look to complete a rare double over the Old Trafford outfit. Price at 5.1 in FPL, 7.5 in the Sky Sports game and 2.0 in the Sun Dream Team, Anichebe also has Swansea, Hull, Cardiff and Norwich in the subsequent four Gameweeks to boost his prospects of picking up the points and helping his side to safety.

Mannone has 3 DGWs to come, don't lose him.
Noone to Ince would give you a 5.5m 5th mid which is a bit too much IMO. Keeping Noone will give you an extra 1m+ to spend on a DGW player for example.
And Suarez is a season keeper for me, you'd probably lose a lot of value on him too, so yeah I'd still save 🙂

      A. I predict a boring 0-0 draw. Sure Mourinho will not play Schurrle, and Torres will miss the easiest of chances.
      C. Torres playing up, difficult for Hazard
      B. Palace needs to win this type of matches, they have to open up.

I don't think Palace seem Sot as the teams around them they need to beat but I take your point. I don't think I've seen them open up much since TP took over but the mindset can change if they feel they need to go for this one. Thanks for the views.

Bit of a paradox: many plans for week 31 are based on waiting to see what happens in the cup (and Europe to a lesser extent) than in the league matches today. What's the general feeling - are these league matches going ahead anyway if there are cup replays?

FA Cup rules, thanks to the police, mean the replays can't be in the same week.
The following week are UCL games, and UEFA won't let the FA play important games up against them.
Meaning the FA Cup replays would end up replacing the doubles.

      So it seems...

    Hey team

Quick question, I'm thinking of bringing in Ridgewell to cover some injury (Snoddy, Bennett, Noone) so should I replace Ryan Bennett or McCartney, already got Adrian and will likely hold him.

    Adrian/Mannone
    Ivan/Shaw/Vertonghen (ryan bennett/mccartney)
    Bellamy/Noone/Ramires/Snoddy (Gerrard)
    Rooney/RVP/Sturridge

    Thanks, Danka, Grazie

I was all set to hand the armband to Roonpig, but having second thoughts with the kick off times.

On the back of internationals & travel...

Man Utd are away in an early kick off.
Chelsea at home in a late kick off.

Those extra hours and the relaxed pre-match routine for Chelsea vs the away day one for Man Utd, make me think going with Hazard is the best move.

Most people (inc me) seem to be plumping for Hazard by default. I don't have a great deal of conviction that he's going to run riot, but then who is - with the possible exception of RVP? Hazard for me is a lovely player to watch, but more of a FF flat track bully.

Nobody's team looking particularly pretty. You've got the big boys in there. With the exception of a Utd striker. Thats really the only place where one can make ground.

    Gw29 v GW 31

    Team for this week.

    Chambers - Terry
    Mata - Hazard - Lallana
    Adebayor

Do I write off this week and bank the transfer? Or do I trade out one or 2 DGW players?

    Adrian
    Flanagan - Demechellis - Kosc
    Delph - Mata - Nolan
    Suarez - Sturridge

7.3 for Lambert and 6.6 for Rodriguez

I can't take them unfortunately as I have Boruc, Davis and Lallana, whoops.

Thanks all - I have Ward and 3 Soton, so Chambers is ruled out unfortunately. Wilson is £4.3, so good suggestion Demel, though I wonder if Huth's return will limit his game time. From what I've read, Olsson injury is a shoulder problem that will require surgery, but only in the summer so appears he can play on no problem.

    2.7 in the bank

Hazard. Mainly because there are no other obvious options (unless you have RVP), he's as good as anyone, and everyone else will be too - risk versus reward = Hazard (c).
