The Weekend Team News

Allan McGregor is expected for the season with kidney damage. Tim Krul is ruled out for Newcastle’s trip to Southampton. Nathaniel Clyne is sidelined for the Saints. Palace have problems up front ahead of a home clash with Chelsea. David Silva is reportedly a doubt for City’s trip to Arsenal, whilst West Brom’s injury worries ease ahead of a home game against Cardiff:

Hull’s Allan McGregor is likely to be sidelined for the season with kidney damage sustained in Wednesday loss at West Ham. The keeper is currently suspended for two games after being dismissed in the 2-1 defeat but may have played his last match of the current campaign, with Steve Bruce admitting “he’s in a bad way”. The Scot will remain in a Hugh Dependency Unit for another couple of days and should leave hospital in a week’s time.

Arsene Wenger has revealed Aaron Ramsey is expected to return to first-team training next week. Jack Wilshere “needs more time”, though, while Nacho Monreal is expected back in training in the next few days as he steps up his recovery from an ankle injury.

Tim Krul is out “for the next two or three games” with a knee injury, according to Alan Pardew. Newcastle could welcome back Davide Santon, who has returned to training after recovering from illness, whilst Loic Remy is expected back in training on Monday and could be ready for the Gameweek 33 clash with Man United. Alan Pardew is considering handing a start to Hatem Ben Arfa, while Sammy Ameobi remains sidelined for the Magpies.

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed Nathaniel Clyne is ruled out of Southampton’s clash against Newcastle with the groin problem that forced him off at Spurs last Sunday. The Saints boss has doubts over Jay Rodriguez, Steven Davis, Morgan Schneiderlin and Victor Wanyama, whilst Kelvin Davis and Maya Yoshida are definitely out – the latter may not feature for the club until next season after sustaining knee ligament damage in training.

In his early Friday morning press conference, Roberto Martinez revealed Phil Jagielka “is now fully fit” ahead of the trip to Fulham.

Tony Pulis remains without Dwight Gayle and Marouane Chamakh for the visit of Chelsea, though the Moroccan is expected to return in time for next week’s crucial clash with Cardiff.

Reports in the Guardian suggest David Silva could be a doubt for City’s trip to Arsenal this weekend. The paper suggests the Spaniard picked up an ankle injury in Tuesday’s win over United and has been receiving treatment over the last couple of days – we’ll be eagerly awaiting Manuel Pellegrini’s lunchtime press conference for an update.

Villa boss Paul Lambert has revealed Andreas Weimann has recovered from the leg problem that forced him off during Villa’s home loss to Stoke last Sunday. Karim El Ahmadi remains doubtful with a thigh problem for the trip to Old Trafford.

Pepe Mel has been handed a boost at the back ahead of West Brom’s vital match with Cardiff. Gareth McAuley has been passed fit after limping out of last week’s loss to Hull and Diego Lugano has made a rapid recovery from a knee problem. Morgan Amalfitano is also available, though Victor Anichebe requires a fitness test on a hamstring problem and Chris Brunt, Claudio Yacob and Billy Jones all remain sidelined for the Baggies.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

Both Rodriguez and Adebayor are injured - 75% chance.

    Which move

    a) Rods to Dzeko
    b) Ads to Dzeko

I'm thinking b) as Rods has shown some sweet sweet form lately.

Going to captain Suarez, at home to Spurs who haven't been the most defensively solid.

Plus I think Palace may be out to frustrate Chelsea, then again I doubt anyone expected Chelsea to smash 6 past Arsenal, even at the Bridge.

Yeah I'm looking to close the gap in my league, so I'm looking for alternative ways to gain points and Hazard seemed like a good choice way to do that this week.

But as you say, Spurs aren't the best defensively, they've already beat them 5-0 this season and I could risk losing some good points from Suarez.

Palace will frustrate Chelsea more than Arsenal did, I wouldn't expect a hammering against a Pulis side at home in a relegation fight. 0-2 I'd say with Hazard getting a goal or an assist.

Liverpool could BATTER spurs at home.

    Hi Guys,

Would you do Evra->Azpi for a -4 this week ?

I feel I need to get rid of Evra sometime before gw 34 anyway .
I like the double up on chelsea def for the run in till end of season.
But are ManU's chances higher or as high to keep the cs this w-e as chelsea's chance vs Crystal Palace? CP still have something to play for...

    Team is :

    Manone/Adrian
    Evra-Terry-Fonte-Coleman-(Ryan Bennett)
    Gerrard-Mirallas-Yaya-Jonson-(Jedinak)
    Suarez-Lukaku-Sturridge

I am using my free transfer for Gerrard->Hazard.

P.S. I am leading my minileague and not looking to be to punty.

I don't know what to do with my team this week.

    Mannone, McGregor
    Koscielny, Azpilicueta, Coleman, Collins, Fabio
    Hazard, Nolan, Yaya, Sterling, Noone
    Suarez, Sturridge, Lukaku

    I have several issues:

    McGregor - Suspended and injured
    Koscielny - Injured
Collins - Doubtful, most likely benched
    Noone - Doubtful
    Fabio - Crap
Sterling - Probably will be benched

Yes. I'm sick of Noone and Sterling! I'm trying to decide whether it's better to plan for the next double gameweek, or just take each week as it comes. The next double doesn't have amazing fixtures.

If it's any consolidation I think Sterling has a good chance of starting this weekend.
You have two good defenders, 3-4 good midfielders and 3 very good strikers.

Swap Koscielny with a cheap good nailed-on defender, then upgrade Nolan or Noone next week

Sissoko will not play neither gw's but the later i buy less probability of injuries.

        Shaw - last 10 gw - 3 cs - 1 assist (New - socred 9 goals in last 10)

I don't think Nolan's going to do well this week.
He prefers playing at home, he's out of form, and he's a bit of a donkey tbf.
BUT, he's an old newcastle boy and he's up against sunderland so he'll be up for it.

Evra is at home against Villa, United SUCK at home, and Villa are much better away from home too, so form indicates United might struggle (Villa drew 2-2 in Anfield).
BUT United are a better side than Villa so they might manage a CS if they manage to put in a decent performance.

Shaw is at home against a toothless Newcastle without Remy, I'd expect Southampton to keep a CS and Shaw might even get forward or get bonus, BUT Southampton have nothing to play for.

That's why I went B, but its up to you 😀

Azpili allows you to upgrade Silva to Yaya for example.

How does this team look? No transfers made. No point losing Koscielny for a similar defender because I'll have to bench them..

    Boruc

    Coleman Baines Cahill (Turner, Koscielny)

    Hazard Yaya Gerrard Snodgrass

    Suarez Sturridge Carroll

    Here are my options:

    A. Carroll -> Bony

    B. Koscielny & Carroll -> Ward & Lukaku, 4 point hit. Gwk 34 in mind.

    C. Save transfer, decide next week.

I'd keep Kos -> Arsenal fixtures get much better after the next two GWs, and your defence is strong enuff to bench him till then... If you do want to get rid of him in GW34, make the transfer then, you dont really need Ward in the short term...

McGregor injury has rocked my plans. Will have to do some proper planning later, but what do you think?

    A. Get Mannone for his extra games, even though they're not very good fixtures
    B. Don't waste a transfer and play Boruc for the rest of the season
    C. Use a transfer and get Harper* in.

*this could change if can see a better rotation

    Thank you!

Looking at Nasri/Lallana for Nolan or
    Baines/Terry for Evra

Both feel a bit knee jerky, mostly because last week I got rid of Lallana for Nolan for a -4 instead of Evra to Baines for the same -4 which were my 2 big options last week. A mistake that stopped me rising to the top of my mini league. What do you guys think?

Seems to be no correlation really, you can do well whilst taking lots of hits so long as they're for good players, you can also do well being conservative and not taking hits.

...TBH I was hoping this would show something a bit more concrete 😛

I think it would be more interesting with Team Value in addition, suspect people with more hits have better team value which might make them catch up in the end of season.

Most of those nearer the top will have made less transfers. This does NOT mean that making hardly any transfers is a good tactic. You need the right players. If you can get the right players with fewer transfers then you will be ahead of someone who used more to get the same players for example.
