Frisking the Fixtures – Gameweek 35 – The Weak

Having cast an eye over those sides with Strong schedules yesterday afternoon, we now assess those with less favourable fixtures over the final four Gameweeks. The Toffees’ chase for fourth has the potential to come unstuck, whilst the Canaries’ hopes of survival are starting to look slim at best:

Norwich

friskingnorwich35

Four defeats in the last five and with a caretaker manager left in charge for the remainder of the season, the Canaries look in desperate trouble. Sitting just two points above the drop zone, the remaining four fixtures pit them against Liverpool, United, Chelsea and Arsenal – games which suggest Norwich may be staring relegation in the face before long.

Without a goal in the last three and with a single clean sheet in seven matches, Neil Adams’ side are toiling at both ends of the pitch. Those still holding the likes of Robert Snodgrass and Martin Olsson will surely be looking for a way out as their prospects go from bad to worse for the run-in.

Everton

friskingeverton35

Roberto Martinez’ men have the form but the remaining fixtures look testing as the Toffees attempt to pip Arsenal in the chase for fourth spot. United and City are the final two visitors to Goodison, whilst trips to Southampton and Hull will be far from straightforward, given their respective home records.

Kevin Mirallas’ owners will already be eying up an exit route after the Belgian was benched against Sunderland last weekend, whilst those who opted to double up on Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines may be prepared to let one of the full-backs go at this point. Romelu Lukaku remains capable of delivering the points and blanking unexpectedly in equal measure, but with both United and City set for doubles in Gameweek 37, some will be making plans to part company with the big Belgian as the schedule tightens for the Merseysiders.

Crystal Palace

friskingpalace35

A testing trip to West Ham this weekend is followed by back-to-back home games against United and Liverpool before a visit to struggling Fulham on the final day of the season in what may be a must-win match for the Cottagers. Tony Pulis’ side have surpassed themselves in recent matches, serving up four clean sheets in the last five, whilst Jason Puncheon has come to the fore as a budget midfield option, netting three times over the previous couple of matches.

Whilst Puncheon’s current form may be enough to earn him further starts in our Fantasy teams, owners of the likes of Joel Ward may be happy to bench for those two home games in particular – a recent 12-point haul against Chelsea at Selhurst Park suggests he’s more than capable of upsetting our expectations, though.

Be Wary Of…

Newcastle
Alan Pardew’s side are stumbling towards the finishing line after a series of dire displays. Four straight defeats in a run which has also seen them fail to find the net highlights just how lacklustre the Magpies are without Loic Remy on board – changes to their formation have had little effect and with rumours of in-fighting intensifying, few will back them to take anything from trips to Arsenal and Liverpool. Home games against Swansea and Cardiff perhaps offer optimism – if fit, Remy has shown he could run riot but with a host of injuries still hampering his squad, Pardew’s main men are likely to be given a wide berth.

West Ham
A defeat against Arsenal last night ensures the Hammers are still three points short of the 40-point mark, meaning their survival is not yet assured. Sam Allardyce’s side now square up to a Palace outfit with four clean sheets in five before travelling to The Hawthorns where West Brom have notched three times in each of their last two at home. With games against Spurs and City seeing out the season, our faith in the Hammers is set to dwindle – Kevin Nolan’s owners are likely to move him on after he missed out with a hamstring problem last night, whilst Andy Carroll owners could hold for the next two before cashing in.

Southampton
Three defeats in the last four and with their top scorer sidelined for six months, the Saints are starting to falter as the season comes to a close. Last week’s home loss to struggling Cardiff will have dented confidence in Mauricio Pochettino’s charges – Everton and United are the final two visitors to St Mary’s, whilst trips to Villa and Swansea are afforded an extra edge, with both home sides still looking to clinch survival. Given their consistency over the season, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert cannot be written off, but with a single clean sheet in five and Artur Boruc still struggling with injury, few will be looking to invest in the Saints backline from this point onwards.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

He is certainly worth a punt, and it can't go too wrong with only 4 weeks to go. I certainly want Eriksen for the remainder though, but I am inclined to a power(ish) 5 with Sterling or Salah as my 5th mid, and SAL up front for the time being, getting Rooney for the DGW if he is good to go.

Gonna repost this one lads , thanks for all the previous replies.

Has scout ruined Fantasy Football ?

Long long time ago (at least 10 years) I started playing Fantasy Football (not FPL) when use of the internet wasn't so prevalent - it was done ironically through a radio station (today FM) and scores posted on ' the Cork Examiner ' on Tuesdays , no dgws / no bonus , simplistic in reality ,
My mates and I made a ' pot ' and away we went , I would research fixtures / listening to sports news for injuries / bans etc , Motd was ' essential ' for visual analysis as sky / SSN wasn't as indept as it is now .
As internet became more accessable we moved on as did the whole world ! And discovered the sky game - the graphics were brilliant / the interface smooth / we were buzzing with the whole new system , in fact it was infectious ! The ' pot ' grew , more joined , ranks increased , strategy became more important , fixtures / Form were the ' buzz ' words , you hid your team from rivals , you never discussed proposed transfers / upcoming Dgw / (c) choices - it was like we weren't in the same mini - leagues at all ! All you spoke about was past success / failures !
I / we then discovered FPL 4/5 years ago but the lads were slow to change - Na they said - " if it ain't broke " , but the ' Addict ' couldn't stay away from the ' official ' game for long !
Initially I was playing the two games at this point and a few dead teams as 'yardsticks' , I found Fantasy scout a few years ago via a google search and inititially I lurked just extracting information to my advantage - my interest / ranks soared even higher , so eventually I decided to ' share ' and contribute on site.
Everything has been going swimmingly probably till this season when I've struggled with rank , so as the season nears it's end I've been doing a rv of why ?
Yea Ramsey / Yaya / RVP / def baps are to blame , But had the advent of social Media blown this game wide open ?
Information is so easily shared now and so quickly has it undermined the use of skills / tactics / planning etc ? Guys don't even have to use a search engine for scout anymore - they have a link direct from FPL now , ( hats off to Mark and co ) this link is for me the origin of " The Casual " - he/she pops on Friday has a lurk around , makes his transfer and he's off , no research / planning - nothing ,
Is this too easy ? Or is this evolution ?
Fantasy Football Scout has created the Beast , can it now tame it ?
Or are we destined for template teams as the norm with Punts / differentials the extreme ?

      Repost of my reply, fwiw:

Interesting post -- the future is in single ownership games, imo, as the knowledge a diehard has accrued would be rewarded.

Right now you get no competitive advantage from knowing the intricacies of the Norwich back line, for example (not sure any reward should be given for that), but if the available player pool had more scarcity than it does now, your knowledge would pay off with being able to find the best replacement whereas the less knowledgable player would not be able to play it as well.

I don't like the Fantrax interface and would love for single ownership leagues to emerge on FPL, but UFPL might be the best we've got for now. I just need to move from America by August, or purchase an offshore home so I can play.

The deeper the squads and the more challenging the choices, the harder/more rewarding the game will be.

Good post , I agree knowledge is no longer rewarded and that's a pity for us ,
        But Commercially FPL won't agree,
I've played Fantrax this year and it seems like 1930 on there , the concept is good but it takes forever to get playing - too slow - needs to be faster !

Ouch , don't confuse my rank with my post , I'm not complaining and I ain't looking for sympathy I'm merely making a point as to how the internet / Scout has changed the game ,
The internet itself had changed the way we live today - flights / online shopping / banking etc and we as a modern generation need to embrace it and use it responsibily to show the way for future generations ,
Yes I / we must evolve as FPL players to combat ' casuals ' persay and I say this lightly ,
Maybe FPL too needs to evolve to make sure the game doesn't go too Template ,
I accept that the rules are the same for all.

do you not think reliance on the internet has led to people over thinking it? (look at bib theory on here for instance) . there is so little patience on here, so many rash decisions made even when we know there are midweek champions league games and the pressers are on friday yet to save 0.1m people get trigger happy. I reckon a lot of players keep their head out of the noise and still do very well

The internet doesn't give us all the answers but sites like these do light the way a little ,
And I've no doubt if a guy is in a rush on Friday and needs to shift an injured player the ' Watchlist ' is a handy tool , you too must accept this point ?

Bottom line is that the advantage of using this site for information / sharing ideas has gone now that everyone knows about it.
Good for mark etc but this now means that to gain a competative advantage you need to make your choices before they become mainstream on here.
it's a bit like playing the stock market by using the share tips in the FT. Once it's printed in the FT it is too late..... what it does mean is that there is less of a gap between the pro's and the casuals so it is much much harder to consistantly outperform.

I can see where you are coming from mate, but I personally think the game is richer for it.

Basically, sites like FFS balance the information for players. It leads to more players having a) the knowledge to make good decisions and b) more players of a higher caliber.

By evening out the knowledge of the game, we have a better competition. We also have more opportunities to learn from other good players (and other bad players' mistakes) so the learning curve is on steroids. Last year I finished 400,000k+, but with your (the FFS community) help, I am now battling with the top 5k.

There is no merit in being top of a pile of shit, so having more players with access to information makes my good decisions all the more rewarding.

Now the game relies more on the assessment of info, rather than just having the info in the first place. Before, you just had to spend more time digging for info. Now, your decisions are made on an even playing field and I think that is a good thing.

        Thanks for replying ,
You'd be lucky to get a week or two advantage with Eriksen say ?
The cats well and truly out of the bag , a blind man would see now that the focus will shift to Mata / Ramsey soon - we haven't much time !

If you were in my place, would you...
    A. Swap Nasri & Yaya for Silva & Eriksen (-4) or
    B. Just swap Yaya for Eriksen and hope Nasri out scores Silva?

True, just panicking as with season closing in, my rival has Silva....it bothers me, I suppose having Nasri/Silva/Aguero wouldn't be too shabby, that would mean I have to lose Lallana for Eriksen.

Any chance of a Mirallas no-show again? Got Ivanovic's 8 points waiting to come on...

I think I know the answer already but wondering if anyone had heard of any injury concern? I was surprised he didn't feature at all at the weekend.

Judging him by his sound bites, Gerrard is going to be THE most committed player over the next 4 game weeks. This may result in a yellow card or two, but it could be very costly not having him in your team.

(Plus Suarez looks up to his old tricks).

I agree--that was my thinking. Set pieces are key. I don't want to take hits, but tempted by a Sterling one, if not for Chelsea up after Norwich. Thanks for reminding me of my reasons. Cheers.

For those more familiar with FPL (My first season). What sort of price changes could I expect IF I wait until after today's match? Yaya & Sturridge > Aguero & Gerrard. I have a .4m cushion at the moment, any reason to make the transfer now?

    Thanks!

Hmmm. I've really talked him up on here the last few weeks - he's been an awesome source of points since I chose to use his fixtures as cover for not having Hazard. Worked a treat.

Maybe just an off (away) game. He's looked great in the other games I've seen...

But my concern was his lack of involvement in the part I saw (with spurs chasing the game).
