Versus – Low to Mid-Price Midfielders

With the season now just a fortnight away, we turn our attentions to a number of kindly priced midfielders in our latest article for members. Picking the right combinations in the mid-price bracket looks crucial to a strong start and with Fantasy managers debating the merits of a number of targets, we scour the statistics to assess their previous form.

For the purpose of this article, we’ve selected seven midfielders, no more than 6.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, who have proven popular picks so far and/or are set for some favourable opening fixtures – potentially affording them the chance to hand us an early-season bandwagon. Comparing their respective statistics, we also dig deeper into seasons gone by in our attempt to ascertain the best options for our initial lineups.

  I read an article yesterday saying Vertonghen wont start as he is still not match fit. Cameron wont start as Bardsley will. I don't think you need Fab and Costa since Costa is a punt in my opinion. No pool cover?

  Looks decent, midfield and attack is bordering on what would be described as 'template' round here but that's basically a good thing as it means everyone likes those players.
  
  Defence has a couple of slightly less familiar faces (Vlaar, Ferdinand) and Debuchy has fallen slightly out of favour recently for some reason but basically all looks good with Vlaar being the one I'd look at and reconsider the most (unless he goes to a more defensively sound team than Villa)

      Well, I'm not going to tell you to get rid of him - if you like him, keep him - my advice is a little more vague than that as I'm not fantastic at this game so I dole it out in very watered down portions.
      
      If you do decide to change him though then Mariappa looks great value if he keeps his place in the Palace team. Hull defenders could be worth a shout although Europa might distract them a bit. Sunderland/Newcastle defenders are priced well but it's debatable if they're a step up from Villa.
      
      As I say, I'm not great at this though so hang around and see who's in everyone else's teams - you soon get a feel for the popular picks.

    I dont agree that it is irrelevant. One of each team offer more flexibility. If Arsenal starts the season with a bang I can easily get double Arsenal attack and vice versa. Many use the argument that you should pick the one you think get most points, but since I have no idea about that I like to spread the risk and have more flexibility

      But that argument in itself is counterintuitive. If u have one of each what if each of the other 2 score a hattrick and the 2 u choose do diddly squat. FPL is about individuals not teams (except in defence)

Hull and qpr rotate so caulker and Chester, and Austin and long have great fixtures.
