The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

De Gea/Hamer

Diego Costa, Rooney, Diouf

Demi says he is pretty set on having David De Gea and a non-playing keeper, and it’s one of the few positions that have remained constant in all his drafts. Juan Mata, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Christian Eriksen and Eden Hazard have all featured strongly in most of his thoughts too, but, apparently, he could be persuaded to start the season with Cesc Fabregas and use the extra cash to upgrade his defence. Speaking of which, John Terry is the one certainty in Demi’s rearguard: the others are more doubtful. Demi is currently undecided as to whether to keep an Arsenal defender in his side, with Debuchy his current preferred selection.

Up front, Wayne Rooney is locked in, but Demi has been really struggling for inspiration on the other two forward spots. Diego Costa seems as good as any option for the first three or four games; he’s not keen on Olivier Giroud or Edin Dzeko with their respective fixtures. Would he be better off downgrading Costa and instead focusing on solidifying his defence?

  Defense is a little light tbh. I'd consider downgrading somewhere in midfield to strengthen a little bit at the back and maybe your 2nd striker as well. I do like the Lamela punt though

        Ya I figured as much so go with Fabregas. Sounds like he's going to start the season playing behind the striker and we all know Fab has goals and assists in him. Use that 1M to upgrade Jovetic to Giroud/Dzeko/Bony/Lukaku/etc or maybe get in Ward/Dann at the back

    Had it as Eriksen all along but playing with a few more options. Ya Stoke and Swansea rotate beautifully for H/A. Its going to either be SIggy/Arnie or Siggy/Bojan. I might need to downgrade Nasri to Eriksen/Lamela anyways if Verm doesn't end up at United

    I think so. He'll be surrounded by so much talent and should get great service. Two starting games against newly promoted teams is a nice way to make an introduction to the EPL!

  Way too light in midfield tbh. Two 4.5s is a bit much, especially when two of your strikers are considered punts and not certain to start. Downgrade the defense

    I agree dump Long there are better options at 5.5 fwds, and use it to replace over priced Trippier w/ Lovren maybe Fonte or even Sagna at 5.5

  Nice keepers. Downgrade ivanovic he's expensive and isn't guaranteed/likely to start. City have a tough start so I would downgrade kompany. Silva I would change because of fixtures. Fabregas is likely to be holding midfielder with Oscar in the hole also matic is very defensive. Use the money saved ^^ to get another big hitter up top.

  I like it, if only because it's a bit different. The only player I'm really not keen on is Pelle who is unproven and doesn't look too skilful. But, Southampton have good early fixtures so he could be worth a punt.

    I like to gamble, last year I put Bony on my team, that didn't go as I planed but it's only a game right, i could downgrade ivanovic->Luis and Silva->Eriksen, and then I have 9.5 for a third striker, who should I get Lukaku?
    
    I like Matic, he will play almost every game so I have some points there and he is not so expensive just 5.5

  Two good starting goalkeepers. Not so sure about Rio, has good value though. Very strong attacking midfield with three massive players. Jovetic (going to Juventus?) has had very good pre-season like Rooney also. Bony is a little questionmark for me, is he happy? At the sametime Gomis is little bit cheaper and had shot already couple of goals also. Sorry that I dont give you that much alternatives to your squad, but have to say that it looks pretty good!

  I think you need Chelsea attacking cover. They have the nicest opening 2 fixtures of any team, 1 of Hazard or costa is a must in my opinion. Also I feel yaya and Ramsey are over priced. Downgrade yaya to Hazard ( city have tough fixture ) and possibly Ramsey to Eriksen as arsenal ain't got great opening fixtures. This will give you cash to upgrade 1 of you 4m defenders and also improve bony.

    Thanks for the comments and I have tweaked again. No doubt will do over and over then run out of time when season starts. However I am getting there, If Jovetic goes there are a couple things i could do to replace both Bojan and Jovetic.

    Thanks, I'm okay with one doubtful defender though, it's not the worst thing in the world if he doesn't start and if he does he's a steal. As for Lukaku I agree, although he does have a good track record against the big teams. Not sure who to bring in for him though, I'm not sold on Giroud, Bony, or Dzeko.

      Why not downgrade luk to a 5.5m/ 6m striker use some of the cash to get a big hitter in defend ie. Chelsea/united and use the rest of the cash to upgrade wanyama to a mid who rotates nicely with your cheap striker. Just a thought though mate, there's no right or wrong, go with your thoughts.

I've gone with a super aggressive front 7 for first 6 weeks and of course hope to rack up the points while defenders find their way and formation.

I don't see a huge amount of cleanies early on, so am wiling to go with 5 cheap D with good fixtures while my front 8 increase my bank balance ready for the likes of baines, debuchy goalie etc around week 6/7 (while reducing a top priced mid to a hendo or so to accommodate) That's my plan anyway ......

    Yeah cheers, I'm hedging my bets that they get at least first couple of games in - we'll see, guess I'm going risk/reward way for opening 6 weeks - rather an Alexis or costa hit a hat trick than a nailed on d get me 3 x 2 points in a row!

      I personally feel the midfield options are stronger then ever this season, hence most prem teams only play 1 up top now a days, that's why I don't think theirs great choice unless you spend pushing 30m on your front 3, i.e rooney aguero jelavic and end up with a weak midfield then.

Plan on keeping DDG till gameweek 8/9 before I will transfer him, although have been thinking going for begovic and banking 0.5m for a rainy day as man utd's back line is technically weaker this season until they buy.

  Not sure about Lukaku. 9m seems a bit too steep for him right now with tough fixtures. Lovren is good for GW1, but tough fixtures after that. Huth is still under an injury cloud, but he could be a cheap pickup. Solid team 🙂

Mate suggested I do fantasy EPL again this season, whipped this team up on the bus trip home from work:

Clyne/Coloccini/Hutton/Bartley/Wisdom

Rooney/Costa/Bojan

Nothing left in the kitty.

I know it's horribly standard, and that defence looks like a bomb site, but other than that it seems good. Running a 3-4-3 or a 3-5-2 with the Siggy/Bojan rotation. Was hoping cheaper defenders would be nailed on as I can see a lot of the expensive ones dropping early on. That being said, I still cringe when I see the defence. Any way to improve it while still keeping a solid squad would be greatly appreciated, but I also love constructive criticism.

  It's hard to argue with the front eight in isolation (although I personally have serious reservations about rotating attacking players, recipe for benched-points-tears if you ask me) but it is crippling your defence.
  
  I'd think seriously about Sanchez > Ramsey or Fabregas > Eriksen/Lamela/Tadic/De Jong and use the change to do something about your defence. Or drop Siggy for a 4.5 and play Bojan every week.

    You need a stronger keeper and forward structure. Downgrade Shaw to Wisdom or Mariappa, this will let you upgrade Green to De Gea. Possibly downgrade Barkley to Siggy which can let you upgrade Remy to Bony or Giroud. Lukaku is a decent punt, but 9m is pretty pricey.

5.0 in the bank. Yup a lot of money in the bank, but looking at early fixtures of the top teams I don't know how much value big hitters in midfield will bring. Will get easy to upgrade later once different midfield roles become. Would love to get the LWB/RWB of ManU. But not sure who if any is nailed on.

  Strong front 7, but the defense is pretty weak and not everyone is not nailed on. I would either downgrade a midfielder/forward or spend the 1 mil you have in the bank to upgrade the defense.

  Naismith isn't a great pick. Lots of rotation in that position and not even a certain starter. The rest is fine.
