The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Next up is Demi who is looking for feedback on this team:

De Gea/Hamer

Mariappa, Wisdom, Davies, Debuchy, Terry

Mata, Sigurdsson, Eriksen, Hazard, Albrighton

Diego Costa, Rooney, Diouf

Demi says he is pretty set on having David De Gea and a non-playing keeper, and it’s one of the few positions that have remained constant in all his drafts. Juan Mata, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Christian Eriksen and Eden Hazard have all featured strongly in most of his thoughts too, but, apparently, he could be persuaded to start the season with Cesc Fabregas and use the extra cash to upgrade his defence. Speaking of which, John Terry is the one certainty in Demi’s rearguard: the others are more doubtful. Demi is currently undecided as to whether to keep an Arsenal defender in his side, with Debuchy his current preferred selection.

Up front, Wayne Rooney is locked in, but Demi has been really struggling for inspiration on the other two forward spots. Diego Costa seems as good as any option for the first three or four games; he’s not keen on Olivier Giroud or Edin Dzeko with their respective fixtures. Would he be better off downgrading Costa and instead focusing on solidifying his defence?

Feel free to get stuck in with your feedback. We look forward to scanning your RMTs throughout the day on this article.

    how is this looking?

    Begovic - Krul
Cahill - Debuchy - van Aanholt - MARIAPPA - DUFF
    Mata - Eriksen - Hazard - Sigurdsson - DAVIS
    Rooney - Dzeko - BONY

Caps = players im unsure about
    - Not 100% on my rotating keepers yet but i like Begovic
    - Struggling to decide the best 4.0mil defenders and also 5th midfielder
    - Bony or Dzeko of downgrade and use the funds elsewhere?

not really any nailed on 4.0 def...wisdom is best bet as he started most of pre season and i don't think Liverpool would loan him out unless he was going to get game time

i think go for Dzeko for first few game weeks then switch to Bony...you could get Giroud to have some Arsenal?

All looks good, do your defenders rotate well for the first 6?
Do you think Luis is nailed on?
Lukaku has some tricky fixtures coming up.
Do you think Sterling will out-score Ramsey over the first 4 games?

interesting team, different from most on here. You will probably be told you're spending too big at the back but those 4 defenders will all score very well in my opinion. Only thing I'd say is to hold off from Baines until GW8 when his fixtures improve and use the money to upgrade your strikers.

my problem with it is even with the top defenders if you are playing 4-5-1 every week you will never outscore the big hitters up front..it will be a consistent team....i think its too bottom heavy personally

I'd hold off on Baines and get Huth or Ward to start with.
Maybe downgrade Shaw to Jones or Evans.
Upgrade a striker, you probably want a more even spread of money so that you can react more easily if a striker gets a hat trick in the first couple of weeks.

go with lowest ownership 4m gk to avoid price drops

7/10 - good gk...good defense but risky as luis, cameron, mariappa and rio are not 100%ers

very good midfield and forward...think Jov will be good for 2/3 game weeks but he is only a short term option and risky

overall good team on paper but a lot of risks...if they all pay off you will score big but you could have too many non starters and have to WC early or take hits to fix

Slightly. Looking more long term though, and city/arsenal's opening fixtures just don't appeal in general. That's why i'm not too keen on Debuchy from the start, but he's there right now.

I think Hazard will be the highest scoring player in the game, so want him from the start. Could downgrade Costa to afford one of Sanchez/Ramsey if need be though.

loving the henderson pick! i would have him too but i went with sterling instead...managed to stretch the funds for him as i think he is going to have a massive season...i can always d/g to hendo if he flops!

I guess you think midfield is where all the points are going to come from this season. Overall, i like it. But would still be worried about how often you'll get clean sheets with that back 7.

So here's my team setup for GW1:

    ---------------------------Foster(SUN)---------------------------

    -------Evans(SWA)---Huth(AVL)---Caulker(HUL)-------

    Hazard(bur)---Mata(SWA)---Tadic(liv)---de Jong(mci)

    --------Rooney(SWA)---Giroud(CPL)---Pelle(liv)--------

    Bench: Krul(mci)---Sigurdsson(mun)---Chester(qpr)---Clyne(liv)

I'm happy with my defence rotation - I've looked at long term (10 GWs), but if needs be, it carries me with a strong team through to a possible WC during the international break.

I've been battling with the following changes...
    Evans > Cahill
    Mata > Sanchez
    Pelle > Bojan
    Sigurdsson > Young
...but I can't bring myself to do it.

or...downgrade Mata > Young and upgrade Pelle > pretty much anyone!

I wouldn't just be worried about Cameron and Bartley, Cahill is under slight threat of rotation and Wisdom is under threat from Gamboa who recently signed. Thats 4 risky defenders which is too much imo.

Not really a fan of Wanyama either but if you like the concept of pure bench fodder then I guess he will do. He isn't much use as an FPL prospect.

Rest of the team looks solid, just try and get more nailed on defenders really.

I fancy a chelsea defender and Cahill is surely the most nailed on? But your right on the others - will have to watch pre-season closely!

Wanyama is pure fodder but if you look at his history at Celtic he actually popped up with a few goals (5 I think)

Yeah he did do well at Celtic however I would bet his position was slightly different there. He is played mainly as a DM player at Southampton, picks up a few yellow cards as well.

For me I'm not convinced any Chelsea defender is nailed on, you could make an argument for any of the 5 contenders. It probably is worth risking it but so long as you don't have any other risks in your defence.

Just checked 10 goals in 61 appearances. Played a mixture of CB, DM & CM.

            Good point on defence though!

I think it's too risky having both Bartley and Cameron, one if not both won't start and you'll end up wasting transfers on your defence very early in the season. I'd use the 0.5 to improve that personally.

Demi I'm surprised you want to invest more in defence. With DDG, Terry and Debuchy you looked stacked in that department. I'd be more worried about having both Diouf and Albrighton.

In tough fixtures I wouldn't play him though, unless the plan is to rotate with Albrighton. It seems like a team geared towards a 442 formation which is certainly different.

Stoke have an excellent set of starting fixtures though, he can be played pretty much every game with the exception of GW3 (and even then I think Stoke did well against the big teams last season).

Yeah they're good, but just worried about the other three. Can stretch to having one def who might be victim to rotation, but not three.

Nothing really I guess considering they have strong early fixtures. But for a striker spot it seems like a bit of a gamble, especially as you have Albrighton as well. Whats Diouf's pedigree like in the premier league?

Its a shame there is such a lack of viable 4.5's. Zep might be right about exploiting the 5m defender market.

Confident on Davies starting every game though? Poch used to rotate Clyne/Chambers so why not do the same with Rose/Davies, neither of them are a stand-out player.

Thanks for all the advice yesterday and my latest team based on the top 6 plan is:

    De Gea
    Terry, Lovren, Koscielny, Debuchy
    Eriksen, Mata, Fabregas
    Rooney, Giroud, Jovetic

    Gilks, Wisdom, Noble, Tiote

This is the core still 4,3,3 which I know is not but I cannot find a 4th midfielder that fits the plan I can afford

Anyone have any thoughts on this lot:

    DDG (Gilks)

Terry Cameron Chester (Ward / Bartley)

    Fabregas Sigurdsson Mata Sanchez (Albrighton)

    Rooney Costa Jelavic

Pretty confident with it now, hasnt changed for at least 24 hours now!

    > Dont think Terry will be rotated initially
    > Jelavic nailed on at 6m and great fixtures
    > Cameron will play (friends a Stoke fan)

I don't think Cameron will play from the start unfortunately. He's returned late from the WC, and so not had much of a preseason. Somebody also made the point that Bardsley is a natural full-back, whereas Cameron isn't. He could start in midfield and CB, but there seems a bit more competition there. Reports of him being sold too.

Agree on Terry. Jelavic is a decent 3rd striker with their fixtures. Have both Costa and Rooney myself now so like those picks too.

Looks good to me, can't really fault it. Nothing wrong with starting with a heavier midfield and then if you need to switch you can always downgrade 1 of those depending on how they do.

i think the balance is good..a lot more value in midfield this year....i have a similar strategy myself. liking the defense but cahill is a risk and wont start every game and i don't know if its worth the extra .5 for caulker over simpson or rio....maybe just swap him to ward?

I did have Simpson but read that they'd signed somebody that puts his place at risk.. Thought I'd go with Caulker for a while due to their fixtures and then possibly get rid for somebody like Debuchy.

I thought Cahill would be the least risky in the Chelsea defence? Maybe it's worth me going with Terry for a while and then seeing who looks nailed on?

RMT Please. Have not done this before so take it apart

    Begovic / Green

    Shaw, Davies, Dann/Coloccini/Wisdom Rotating

    Sanchez, Lamela, Siggy, Cabella (Albrighton)

    Rooney, Deigo Costa, Jovetic

Have .5m in bank to upgrade Jovetic to Giroud or Dzeko depending on form

Like the team Demi, similarities to mine although I can't go with Hazard from the start. Love him as a fantasy option but I just feel like he'll need a few weeks to get back into things after the wc

Rooney & Costa are great options as it gives you obvious choices for captains week 1 & 2

(one for the mods- could you set up a ultimate thread so the few of us playing it could have somewhere to discuss ideas without it getting lost in page after page of rmt's?)
