The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

De Gea/Hamer

Mariappa, Wisdom, Davies, Debuchy, Terry

Mata, Sigurdsson, Eriksen, Hazard, Albrighton

Diego Costa, Rooney, Diouf

Demi says he is pretty set on having David De Gea and a non-playing keeper, and it’s one of the few positions that have remained constant in all his drafts. Juan Mata, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Christian Eriksen and Eden Hazard have all featured strongly in most of his thoughts too, but, apparently, he could be persuaded to start the season with Cesc Fabregas and use the extra cash to upgrade his defence. Speaking of which, John Terry is the one certainty in Demi’s rearguard: the others are more doubtful. Demi is currently undecided as to whether to keep an Arsenal defender in his side, with Debuchy his current preferred selection.

Up front, Wayne Rooney is locked in, but Demi has been really struggling for inspiration on the other two forward spots. Diego Costa seems as good as any option for the first three or four games; he’s not keen on Olivier Giroud or Edin Dzeko with their respective fixtures. Would he be better off downgrading Costa and instead focusing on solidifying his defence?

  I wouldn't personally want to be playing Krul every week.. Newcastle's defence are shocking..
  
  Defence terrible.. Too many risks.. Cameron, Wisdom, Davies, Bruce all possible risks..
  
  Midfield and strikers are fine but think the rest of your team suffers badly.. Downgrade a mid..

  Need to keep an eye on your defence in case they are not 1st choice.
  Mids and strikers should be solid, otherwise a lot of FF players are going to be disappointed.

Absolutely love the Diouf pick! Finally someone else who's brought him into their team! People laughed at me 🙁 Have Jovetic as my 3rd forward, might revert back to Diouf to upgrade my mids/def though. Not having a Stoke attacker ATM is killing me 😕

I'm assuming that's Ben Davies? Don't fancy Curtis, Huth or ....Caulker? 😉

Think your defence is strong enough with Debuchy, Terry and Benny, no need to downgrade Costa.

Any thoughts? Nervous about Dzeko as anyone would be. The defensive rotation works well although not perfectly at the very start.
Don't want to downgrade Terry to Luis.

  Solid team.
  Dzeko can be dropped when and if he no longer starts, you just need a decent 1st sub as cover just in case.

    I like the idea of Bony given Swansea's fixtures from week 2 but uncertainty over his future is an issue. I was on Giroud for a while too but fixtures plus competition for places makes me nervous.

      A lot of fixtures change around GWs 5-8 so a bit of time to plan. An early WC if all else fails, though mine has never helped me at all.

    Cheers buddy - just replied to yours below. I think given what City do to teams (even the top teams) at the Etihad Dzeko is a risk worth taking and easily swapped as you say.

  Great front 8 - presume the idea is to rotate Siggy and Bojan but that will probably be tough at times as Siggi particularly with set pieces will probably mean you leave points on the bench.

    yeah thats the plan but I will be mostly leaning towards Siggy...gonna see how Bojan is at home/away and against small and big teams to know when to play him but when i am in doubt ill go siggy

  Like that you are going for a punt with the keepers. I personally dont like the rotation of bojan and siggy- not because they aren't going to get points but because im sure the one id put on the bench would get more and that would annoy me so prefer a more expensive mid/forward

    its impossible to have a 10/10 team..even with unlimited funds...no one knows who is better between hazard/fab sanchez/ramsey etc....with no games played there is no perfect team...

Demi, how about JWP or S.Davis instead of Albrighton? Do you really fancy Albrighton to make an impact?

Also, what do you think about QPR defence? they seem to offer good rotation with a few teams and Caulker has goals to his name last year...

  Would avoid Everton early on, tough fixtures, would swap Howard for DDG.
  
  I'd feel nervous with a non-playing 3rd forward too, even if he is just on the bench. Lots of £ in defence so could be a trad-off to make there for a decent cheap striker like Austin/Ings/Murray?

Here it is, an RMT, slightly transformed, just a bit of a break from the norm:

This is my current team with 1.5 ITB.... any suggestions as to how I should spend it gratefully received;

DDG / Hamer
Cahill / Ward / Cameron / Chester / Duff
Ramsey / Hazard / Mata / Siggy / Wanyama
Rooney / Jovetic / Pelle

I'm aware I'm light up top, but for some reason I've utterly convinced myself that Pelle is a sound punt... and don't fancy dismantling my mids to fit Costa.

  Lukaku, Dzeko, Joetic are the only good options in that bracket imo..... and impossible to say yet which of the the two Man City strikers will start, (though it could be both). Lukaku the safest for starts, but lacks the explosive potential of the other two.

Rate my Team someone who is good at this game:

Krul, Guzan (Rotation every week)

Jones, Colocinni, Debuchy, F. Luis, Caulker

Mata, Eriksen, Ramsey, Sigurdsson, Snodgrass (like David Silva at 9mil but i'll get him later)

Rooney, Dzeko, Pelle

Obviously no Hazard but can see him getting subbed a lot if he doesn'r perform in 1st 60 minutes each game.

I'd appreciate any comments on my initial team:

Krul - Mannone

van Aanholt - Cresswell - Simpson - Davies - Vermaelen

Ramsey - Cabella - Sánchez - Sigurdsson - Mata

Rooney - Ings - Pellè

* I have put Vermaelen in at the moment on the basis that he may move to Man U, if he doesn't I'll swap him out.

* I think my front line is a little on the light side however I'm banking on Sánchez playing further forward for Arsenal so will contribute points there

I have £0.5 left in the bank!

  Don't know about Bojan. Even though he's scored a couple pre season his goalscoring record is woeful. tadic unproven in a decent league though his stats are awesome. Young may not get the starts even though he's had a good pre-seaon.
  
  reckon siggy will have a good season though, particularly if Swansea keep hold of Bony. And he'll have the free kick duties and possibly corners for assists

  My suggestion is to replace:
  
  - Mannone (Not guaranteed to start, Krul/Begovic/Speroni)
  - Toure (Too expensive, get Mata/Sterling instead and invest in your defence
  - F Campbell (Good pre-season but competing with 3 other strikers for 1 spot. Bojan is a better option

  I'd go bego (VIL) instead of Speroni (ars). Ward for Evans gets you a palace defender and saves you 0.5 and play wisdom first game. Like the lamela punt I've gone safe with Erikson myself

    Cheers for the advice mate! Really don't want to let go of Evans, good fixtures + the LVG effect. How about if I replace Caulker with Ward?
    
    Chose Eriksen over Lamela since apparently Pochettino's moved Eriksen to a deeper role with Lamela in the hole.
