The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

De Gea/Hamer

Mariappa, Wisdom, Davies, Debuchy, Terry

Mata, Sigurdsson, Eriksen, Hazard, Albrighton

Diego Costa, Rooney, Diouf

Demi says he is pretty set on having David De Gea and a non-playing keeper, and it’s one of the few positions that have remained constant in all his drafts. Juan Mata, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Christian Eriksen and Eden Hazard have all featured strongly in most of his thoughts too, but, apparently, he could be persuaded to start the season with Cesc Fabregas and use the extra cash to upgrade his defence. Speaking of which, John Terry is the one certainty in Demi’s rearguard: the others are more doubtful. Demi is currently undecided as to whether to keep an Arsenal defender in his side, with Debuchy his current preferred selection.

Up front, Wayne Rooney is locked in, but Demi has been really struggling for inspiration on the other two forward spots. Diego Costa seems as good as any option for the first three or four games; he’s not keen on Olivier Giroud or Edin Dzeko with their respective fixtures. Would he be better off downgrading Costa and instead focusing on solidifying his defence?

    I'm reasonably happy with my defense, allows me to get a United defender for the fixtures, Speroni and a Stoke defender as well.
    
    The rotations (Stoke/Swansea and NewC/WBA work well too!)

        Want to say yes but I rate Haz over Cesc.
        
        Your defense rotation is a bold punt. But a punt nonetheless. I say stick with it if you comfortable.
        
        Speroni to a 4.5M GK? Mannone perhaps? To upgrade one of the 4.5M DEF to a 5.0M defender. Tha'll be my suggestion cos I'd hate to mess with that front 7.

    In some weeks yes but I seem to remember not too many and am hopeful of plenty of stoke cleanos whereas swansea's fixtures have to be v good for me to be doubling which they are the necessary weeks (H to wbrom, burnley and leicester)

Is Shaw likely to start as LWB every game for united. Are they definitley going to play 3-5-2 from the start? Surprised to not see him in more eams if this is the case surely he will really rack up attacking points as wing back, especially with uniteds fixtures.

Not sure about the Debuchy pick from the outset. Caulker, Clyne & CDavies have good fixtures at a bit cheaper price. Might give you more flexibility.

Midfield solid.

I had Diouf for a while in my team. Like his record in Germany. Like that Stoke pursued him for a year. Like how Hughes has talked about other team members needing to get used to his style of playing off the shoulder of defenders. Not sold on if he'll make it work in the Prem and in the end couldn't go there after punting on Altidore last season. Will be monitoring,

Regarding Costa. At 10 and up I feel like we should expect goals and assists. We get that with Haz, Sanchez, Yaya, Rooney, Sturridge, Aguero & RVP. Costa only had 3 assists last year & 7 yellows. Even if he meets expectations, I'm dubious that his goal involvement is enough for the price. If you're looking for money to strengthen defense, I'd take it here. On the other hand, if he's a place holder to raise funds for Sturridge after the 1st int'l break, go for it,

  One of his friendlies he got 3 assists in one game, I think there is a lot of upside to costa, he rarely scores hattricks which could be an anamoly. Shows he is always in the goals

Could get Ramsey instead of Fabregas (as Arsenal cover) but keen on double Chelsea attack for their first 2 games.

  Zabaleta is not gonna play for at least the first couple of GW's especially given the presence of Sagna, likewise with Ozil. Would go with B, but downgrade zaba and ozil for cheaper options and upgradde Goalie and naismith as you already have good options in mid and defense.

  Strong defensively. Question mark over Cameron game time with bardsley there.the problem with nugent is horrific fixtures. Really like mata and henderson could be a real differential. Good team overall

  Rooney over Giroud edges it for me. Especially as Roo is leading United's attack whiles RVP works on his fitness. Eriksen is no Mata but he should be in among the point IMO.
  
  -----Just a thought---
  I do prefer Ward over Marriapa though. Downgrade Gibbs to Chambers [4.5M] if you absolutely must have an Arsenal DEF [Chambers should deputize for Mertz as Wenger is giving his WC squad some rest time] for the first couple of games. Otherwise, there are plenty of 5M DEF to choose from. Gibbs becomes Ward and that extra 0.5M is used to upgrade Marriappa to Caulker/Huth/Clyne.

      Go for Debuchy then. Gibbs is more injury prone and Wenger could give Monreal the odd game when the games start coming in thick & fast.
