The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Next up is Demi who is looking for feedback on this team:

De Gea/Hamer

Mariappa, Wisdom, Davies, Debuchy, Terry

Mata, Sigurdsson, Eriksen, Hazard, Albrighton

Diego Costa, Rooney, Diouf

Demi says he is pretty set on having David De Gea and a non-playing keeper, and it’s one of the few positions that have remained constant in all his drafts. Juan Mata, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Christian Eriksen and Eden Hazard have all featured strongly in most of his thoughts too, but, apparently, he could be persuaded to start the season with Cesc Fabregas and use the extra cash to upgrade his defence. Speaking of which, John Terry is the one certainty in Demi’s rearguard: the others are more doubtful. Demi is currently undecided as to whether to keep an Arsenal defender in his side, with Debuchy his current preferred selection.

Up front, Wayne Rooney is locked in, but Demi has been really struggling for inspiration on the other two forward spots. Diego Costa seems as good as any option for the first three or four games; he’s not keen on Olivier Giroud or Edin Dzeko with their respective fixtures. Would he be better off downgrading Costa and instead focusing on solidifying his defence?

Feel free to get stuck in with your feedback. We look forward to scanning your RMTs throughout the day on this article.

Nice team: take jovetic out bcoz he may not start.I recommend dzeko/bony if you can free up some cash.

Also maybe take out Bojan because no prem experience, Naismith is a good option and he also saves you .5 mil

        Thanks for the feedback.

Jovetic is on fire though preseason...surely to at least start the season?

Agree on Bojan although that third striker will be resigned to the bench most weeks.

All thoughts good & bad welcome

    Foster, Guzan
    Coloccini, Duff, Chester, Ward, Caulker
    Mata, Hazard, Yaya, Ramesy, Sterling
    Lukaku, Austin, Bojan

    * I can do Austin - 4.5m & Lukaku - Rooney but nah
    * I know my DEF is light and may need some changes if some don't play, but Rotation is the plan
    * I expect my world class MID to pick up the DEF slack, Austin/Bojan to rotate in first few GW's

      Mannone--> to another 4.5.

fowards look abit punty you might want to try and fit rooney in because of Uniteds fixtures and also its abit risky playing that many defenders if thats your chosen formation choice i would down grade skirtle to a 4.5 zabaleta to a 4.0,shelvey to a 4.5 mid and howard to a 5.0 keeper and upgrade lukaku to rooney and bring in Austin if you can as he is on pens for qpr is on good form and qpr have easy fixtures.

Solid team here. I love the forwards. Midfield is great too but you may want to consider a replacement to Silva since he does tend to get hurt a lot. Dropping him down to an 8.0 midfielder like Eriksen or even an 8.5 such as Raheem Sterling would give you .5 to upgrade to a more nailed-on bench defender instead of Wisdom.

    De Gea
    make the
    Vertonghen Vlaar Cameron

    Young Lamela Ramsey Hazard

    Bojan Sturridge Rooney

I keep looking at the defence......and keep coming up with nothing original. Also in debate about Lamella, but I am a fan of differentials. Although saying that, at the start of the season is it not easier to just run with the heard? It makes sure you make the money for future moves. All thoughts appreciated!

Cheers both. The defence and keepers are probably the areas most likely to change. I see Arse scoring and he (Ox) could be in the thick of it. He's had some bad luck and looks to be fit this season, so he could be a decent differential (I've not seen many mention him).

if he starts yes, could be a great option, my concern would be that Arsenal have so many options in midfield that he is a "big" risk for gametime. I suppose your other mids more than compensate if he doesn't start. Personally Ive gone for Ashley Young, similar risk but possibly less competition than ox has.

    Rate my team:
    Pantilimon, Krul
Vertonghen, Clyne, Cameron (Stoke), Taylor (Swansea), Wisdom
    Hazard, Mata, Ramsey, Tadic, Albrighton
    Rooney, Lukaku, Bojan
    2m in the bank.

Pantilimon and Krul alternate home/away over the entire season. A couple of questions:
    1. Will Pantilimon start? He started the last 3 preseason games.
    2. WIll Cameron start?
    3. Will Taylor start?

I'm pondering using my 2m to transfer Bojan out in favor of Pellé after the fist gameweek given Southampton's strong fixtures. Good idea?

Can someone tell me if this is madness or not as I'm starting to think I'm going a bit insane with all the tinkering!

    Below is my team:

    Begovic

    Evans Debuchy Cahill

    Lamela Fabregas Sanchez Mata Sterling

    Bojan Rooney (c)

    Subs: Gilks, Mcileny, Wisdom, Hutton

The team I've picked does look light up front but none of the strikers are jumping out of me other than Diego Costa but he's too much imo. The 8-9 valued strikers don't inspire me too much other than Lukaku but his fixtures are awful. I thought about downgrading lamela to siggy to get jovetic but I don't know if his run in the team will last long and i think this year spending a bit more on defence will pay off as I only think a couple of teams will be notching regular clean sheets which will make their defenders well worth paying a bit more for..

The midfielders all look like potential 180s by the end of the season given their positions in their teams. A few of which seem to be playing pretty much in the front line.

p.s I'm normally in the top 10,000, so usually know roughly what I'm doing...

I thought the same last season about going stronger in defence. Like you, typically in the top 100,000, till last year! The points in the main remain in the attack.

Debuchy is a great full back, but not sure about attacking returns.(watched him all last season) Evans I've always liked, he tends to hit a sweet patch where he picks up the odd goal, and with Man Utds opening fixtures, he could pay off.

Same boat with Lamela. Looking good in pre-season is no guarantee of Premier League returns. Siggy would be a more proven option. But I've got both in my team! What would I know!!

I'd look at strengthening the front 3. Bojan is looking good, but for me he's a gamble. Worth having but a gamble all the same.

See above RMT for my insanity, which is not too far from your own!

I do want to strengthen my attack but I'm just not too sure who to bring in. Costa and Lukaku seem like the only viable options but I don't think Chelsea'sstyle of play suits their striker in the Mourinho system. On top of that I do not know who to sacrifice in the midfield. I've become so attached to them 🙁

I feel your pain! I had thought my mid was ok till I asked for comments! 🙂

I had Fab in for a while, but I'm thinking that he'll be played a little further back in the Chelsea team, and he won't be on spot kicks, hence why I tilted to Hazard. I've convinced myself that Yaya won't be close to as prolific as he was last year so not worth the money.

Really like big Rom. The only thing holding me back are the fixtures.

The likes of Bony/Dzeko are form players for me and good to have in patches. Pelle, I need to see play in the PL before I join his bandwagon.

          Decisions decisions!

First time FPL player this year. I've been going back and forth for days, so I can see why this is addicting. This is what I've settled on for now.

    GK: Howard (Gilks)
    DEF: Terry/Debuchy/Caulker (Dummett, Bruce)
MID: Silva, Mata, Eriksen, Sigurdsson (Albrighton)
    ATT: Rooney, Diego Costa, Jovetic

Long notes incoming! Sorry in advance.

--So I'm really unsure if I've spent too much on GK and DEF for now. I'd like to have one bankable stud back there, for now that's Terry but idk if a 6m option like Shaw or Luis would do just as well.

--My hunch is to play two defenders from the top-flight teams and rack up the clean sheets, but I don't have the experience to know if that's worth it. I've also been going back and forth on whether to take Caulker or Davies at that 3rd spot.

--I figure Howard is someone I'll never have to worry about, but his opening 7-8 GWs are tough and I could always save a .5m on someone like Begovic. Or just swap him with De Gea, not really sure.

--I recently swapped Hazard and Nasri for Mata and Silva. My thinking is that Hazard is going to have a (relatively) down year compared to his going price, while Silva is consistent and Mata will be on the upswing after their opening stretch. Siggy and Eriksen are obvious values.

--Up front Rooney and Costa are no brainers, while Jovetic is obviously a gamble. As an EFC supporter I'd like Lukaku, but 9m with his opening fixtures is asking for trouble. Jovetic could really come out of the gate strong and boost his value. If he doesn't work out, I'm thinking of cutting him, swapping Howard for Begovic, and picking up Bony or Giroud instead. We shall see.

    Thoughts?

nice team, should be fairly safe. i don't think howard is good value when you can have begovic for less... also dummett and bruce probably won't start, i would upgrade one of them to a 4.5 like cameron or chester for when caulker has bad fixtures.

Yeah this was floating through my head but it's the kind of thing I don't know too much about as a first timer.

Caulker's an odd one as a lot of his value seems to come from goals, so I might follow Zidane's Floor up there and drop Howard for Begovic, then pick up a 4.5 defender to sub in. Or swap Howard for a Krul/Mannone (or Pantilimon) rotation.

I do believe in Siggy, I like Swansea this year, but you're right that it is something of a gamble. Maybe I should shave a half mil or so of the defense, or drop Jovetic for a safer but less prolific striker, or...

Sensible thinking; I would drop Jovetic to a cheap striker (u already have City covered with Silva) and use to upgrade either Albrighton (Arnie rotates well with Siggs) or Dummet (to someone who rotates well with Caulker), or do both!

Maybe look at striker options that allow 3 way rotation with Siggs/Arnie between 3-4-3/3-5-2? Maybe Pelle (bit more £ & unsure of saints but could be strong)

Please RMT and any suggestions for that 5.5 FWD spot would be gratefully received. I know the consensus is Bojan, but I can't say I'm struck. I've been looking at: Fletcher, Campbell (CRY) and Weimann.

    Cheers

Huth is competing with Cameron for Stoke centre-back berth so isn't nailed on. I would just Pieters at some price for a Stoke defender.

Please help and rate my team. Thank you in advance.

I am not liking having Costa and Sanchez, but I fear not having them. Easier to downgrade from than upgrade to if I am wrong.

    Begovic (Krul)
B Davies, N Taylor, Ward, Cameron, Rosenior
    Sanchez, Mata, Sigurdsson, Snodgrass, Arnautovic
    Rooney, Remy, Costa

i would get rid of neil taylor and downgrade Remy to Austin as Austins on pens and had a good pre season form to try and get Luis in for taylor personally rest is fine!!

Thank you. I like Luis and have been keeping him in mind if he looks nailed on enough. Interesting idea on Austin being on pens. I'll have to study him.

You also have to consider the likely price drops if the new boys flop. I'd rather be a week late on a bandwagon.

Thank you. Oh yes, I prefer a week late to six weeks early. But, could I get them in, without hits or struggle if they do go well? Easy to downgrade from them but hard to upgrade to them. Been agonizing about that issue. Which downside do I prefer....

Good team. However wouldnt have gerrard this year as he relied on suarez to provide the penalties. change to sterling if you want to keep liverpool,

good team!!! like the gerrard punt!! Would rather have Austin instead of Nugent as Austins on pens and qpr have better fixtures and he had good pre season form but thats just me, could be wrong and i still admire the puntyness of it 🙂 rest of your team is fine!

Perhaps Sterling over Gerrard if you're that set on a Pool mid. Better options out there though.
Try upgrading either one of Dzeko or Nugent.
      The rest looks good!

Hello guys was just wondering if i could please have a second opinion? thanks so much for your time!!!!! 🙂

    De Gea (Given)
Terry / Cameron / Ward, (Duff) / (Bruce)
Fabregas / Mata / Sanchez / Sigurdsson (Albrighton)
Rooney / Diego Costa / Austin

reckon there's anything wrong with my team? i did have Remy but fancy Austin's chances more with the fact that he's on pens, had good pre-season form and is cheaper. Also i'm not entirely sure Cameron is nailed. Thanks again.

Try going for a tad bit cheaper keeper rotation? That way you could get some funds to upgrade Cameron to Pieters maybe?
Also, there are better options for 5.0 than Ward imo.

ok i would say rotation but i hate rotation like i could go mannone/krul but i want a keeper who i believe will get me cleanies and i hate having points on the bench.... i think ddg to boruc or bego could give me the upgrade to peiters!! also who else would you suggest at 5.0 instead of ward? thanks!! 🙂

Gonna bring in Ozil when match fit for mata.

Ok super dull I think , but need to have less gamble this year

    De gea , Gilks

    Davies , Cahill , Clyne , Naylor , wisdom

    Siggy , Hazard , JWP , Mata , Eriksen

    Giroud , Rooney , Dzeko

Wouldn't go anywhere near Southampton myself, lost most if not all their key players as well as their manager.

And as far as gambling goes: all of Davies, Naylor, Wisdom, Giroud and Dzeko are not 100% sure to start.

I think I got it finalised (again)...

A 3-4-3 system. Defense with 2 rotating pairs around Baines. A strong goalie rotation. And several captain options.

    Speroni -- Adrian

    Baines -- Cameron -- N. Taylor -- Coloccini -- van Aanholt

    Sanchez -- deJong -- Sigurdsson -- Eriksen -- Albrighton

    Sturridge -- Dzeko -- Lukaku

yes like it, will Cameron start do you think?
      I'd like Lukaku also
      good keepers
I guess just missing another midfield big hitter
I really think you need Utd palyers look at there ganes !
      how is mine?

      Foster-----Krul

      Taylor----Filipe Luis----Marriapa ----Davies---Cameron

      Sanchez----Sterling-----Mata-----Sigurdsson----Erikson

      Rooney -----Dzeko-------(Bojan)

Looks solid. The only question I would have is Marriapa and if he is nailed on. I am pretty confident that Cameron is nailed on. I really like your coverage of teams. And Krul could be a real steal at 4.5 this year. Bojan, I am not familiar enough with to make a quality judgement on; but, what I do know about him is intriguing.

Being a Man City supporter, it would be sacreligious to have a UTD player in my team (and against league rules in my supporters league).

Right, I've made a few changes recently and this is best I've come up with so far:

    Krul, Foster
Baines, Luis, N.Taylor, Mariappa & Wisdom
Hazard, Mata, Ramsey, Sigurdsson & Henderson
    Rooney, Dzeko/Giroud & Austin

It seems as though Wisdom could well start the season at right back even with the chilean lad signing. Mariappa looks as though he may have got his right back slot back too after being on the bench for the first couple of pre-season games. I'll decide on Dzeko/Giroud after the community shield. Would prefer Dzeko but not if he's going to get rotated.

    Thoughts?

Hi all, any chance of a quick RMT? Aim to rotate between 3-4-3 / 3-5-2:

    DDG / Given
    Luis / Bavies / Coloccini / Mariappa / Wisdom
    Sanchez / Lamela / Mata / Sterling / Siggs
    Rooney / Dzeko / Bojan

Aware there's a couple of risks in there. Have tried to squeeze in a lot of captain choices & make it easy to fix (ie Sanchez - Rambo if first few GWs dictate)

    Many thanks for any feedback!
